Scoop Feedback:

June 25, 2002... With the first movie proven to be a huge hit ($100 million bucks in just 10 days), Warner Bros. has exercised sequel options for the cast and are negotiating with the director to put this project on the fast track with an eye towards releasing it in 2004. Screenwriter James Gunn is back and already working on the new storyline.

July 19, 2002... The Web Wombat website interviewed screenwriter James Gunn about the work he's done on Scooby-Doo 2, and the writer coughed up some previously unknown facts. the script is presently titled Scooby Too, although Warner Bros.
boss Lorenzo DiBonaventura favors calling the sequel Scooby Deux.

"I knew I'd probably take on the sequel but I didn't know I'd have as much enthusiasm for it as what I have," Gunn said to Web Wombat. "I'm extremely excited about it. We get a chance to correct all my mistakes we made on the first one.

"And I can put my sea monsters back in - they got cut from the first one due to the budget.

January 9, 2003... While it may not be officially announced, a deal has been struck to film the sequel to Scooby-Doo in Vancouver, Canada this year. However, due to the sudden influx of feature productions shooting in Hollywood North (such as The Chronicles of Riddick, I, Robot and Paycheck), finding sufficient studido space for Doo 2 is proving to be a lot harder -- especially when our source tells us that this film needs 4 months of pre-production work before the first day of filming can take place. January 17, 2003... Our inside source, Sunman, rises again with more exclusive news about the sequel to Scooby-Doo. This time we can share with you the actual shooting dates of Scooby Too, which is the present title of the movie. Filming begins in Vancouver, Canada on April 7 and is scheduled to go on until July 25, which is approximately 80 days of principal photography. Charles Roven and Richard Suckle return as producers with Kelly Smith-Wait
serving as executive producer. ['Sunman' got a whole box of scooby snacks for this scoop!]

March 31, 2003... Warner Bros. has confirmed that the forthcoming sequel to SCOOBY-DOO will be released in theaters on March 26, 2004. Filming gets underway in Vancouver on April 14.

One telling aspect of the Warner Bros. press release is that the studio didn't officially refer to the film as SCOOBY-DOO 2 or SCOOBY-TOO but as just the sequel to SCOOBY-DOO. From that we may infer that the sequel's title is still up in the air.

Warners also released a general premise of the film (written by James Gunn, the same screenwriter from the first film.) As WB describes things, "Scooby and the gang confront an anonymous masked villain who is plotting to take over the city of Coolsville by wreaking mayhem with a monster machine that creates Mystery Inc.'s classic foes like The Creeper, Captain Cutler and The 10,000 Volt Ghost."

April 7, 2003... Buffy the Vampire Slayer alumni Seth Green has joined the cast of Scooby-Doo 2. The actor, who has just finished working on the remake of The Italian Job, will play the museum curator of Coolsville in the movie. Is his character a good guy or a bad guy? We don't know yet, but we do know his name is Patrick.

April 21, 2003... Alicia Silverstone is working again for Warner Bros. but not as Batgirl; instead, her latest paycheck is for SCOOBY-DOO 2. The 26-year-old Silverstone is playing the part of a "relentless" reporter named Heather who gets a helping hand from the Coolsville museum curator, Patrick (played by Seth Green.)

The movie has begun filming in Vancouver and is still locked for a March 26, 2004 release. [Variety.]

April 22, 2003... You've got to hand it to the team running Hollywood North Report: nothing works better for a site launch than breaking a series of exclusive photos straight from the set of a big-budget Hollywood movie. And that's precisely what HNR has had these past two days while the cast and crew of SCOOBY-DOO 2 filmed a big scene in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

The site has published a series of before and after shots taken of Vancouver's Art Gallery, the site of the Coolsville Criminology Museum and where a big bash for Mystery, Inc. is being thrown. It looks like the Scooby gang is attending a red carpet, complete with a Mystery Machine limo.
