SCOOP: Who's directing BASIC INSTINCT 2?

We've been sent a follow-up scoop to the one we published last week concerning what's happening with the development of BASIC INSTINCT 2. Unlike last week's report which revealed that Sharon Stone was courting Ashton Kutcher to come star alongside her in the sequel, this time the new scooper wanted to tell us the latest word on which directors have been approached -- and why the people Stone wants isn't the kind of helmers that the film's producers are looking for.

Here's what our anonymous friend had to say:

"Saw the Ashton Kutcher news yesterday and thought you might want to know that this project is still without a helmer. There is an internal tug-of- war going on between Kassar/Vanja (The Producers) and Stone (who has director approval).

"Sharon's has been pushing for indie-type people like Patty Jenkins, Mary Harron and Mike Figgis. They've met with rejection thus far.

"Vajna and Kassar have been talking to B-Level guys like Jan De Bont and even John Mctiernan (who almost directed this movie three years ago)

"Mark my words - it will be a miracle if they go into production this year."
