To the surprise of many, Ridley Scott has expanded and reinforced his comments about returning to the ALIEN franchise. Scott said last week that he was mulling ALIEN 5 as his next movie, but to many the comments came like idle jawing with journalists while promoting BLACK HAWK DOWN.
But according to an interview in the CHICAGO SUN TIMES Scott told Cindy Pearlman, "I'm seriously mulling it over. I think it would be a lot of fun, but the most important thing is to get the story right."
But for those hoping this would be the long-fabled Aliens-come-to-Earth-story, don't count on it.
"Earth would be interesting, and there is talk about it," said Scott. According to Pearlman, the ALIEN director sounded "bored with the premise."
"I say we should go back to where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created," Scott said. "No one has ever explained why. I always figured that a battleship carrying bio-mechanical organisms that could be weapons was sent into space with some space jockey who didn't last long."
