It seems as if Ridley Scott's flirtation with helming ALIEN 5 has passed and he's looking to return to the epic type film of years gone past. According to VARIETY's Michael Fleming, Scott is beginning work on a movie about the 11th century Crusades.

No script is yet written for the film, which presumably would tell the story of the knights of Europe attempting to drive out the Muslim rulers in Jerusalem.

William Monahan has been tapped to scratch out the script based on Scott's ideas and the director hopes to begin shooting the untitled movie by next winter.

Twentieth Century Fox will be producing the film and is hoping for a GLADIATOR style battle epic.
