Scout Taylor-Compton joins "Halloween"

Rob Zombie has announced that the leading female role in the upcoming Halloween reboot will be played by Scout Taylor-Compton (Cry Wolf).

Just last week it was rumored that Hayden Panettiere may be up for the role, which instead went to Taylor-Compton.

The film's synopsis: After being committed for 17 years, Michael Myers, now a grown man and still very dangerous, is mistakenly released from the mental institution (where he was committed at the age of 10) and he immediately returns to Haddonfield, where he wants to find his baby sister, Laurie. Anyone who crosses his path is in mortal danger.

Filming should be underway in the very near future as the film aims for an August 31, 2007 release.

KJ's Take:  I never saw Cry Wolf, so I can't speak to her acting abilities, but I can't imagine it takes much prowess to look pretty and scream at the top of your lungs.  She sure does have the pretty part down.

You're right on the pretty part, KJ.

I just don't know about this whole concept. In fact, she looks alittle too pretty. Part of Jamie Lee Curtis quality in the original was that she was pretty like... geeky pretty. Homely pretty or something like that. Not flashy.

As a Halloween nut, this whole remaking/changing concept idea...Well, it has me wondering. I'm not a remake hater and I won't insult Rob Zombie because I know the man loves the Horror genre as a whole but he has a lot of pressure on this one.

I guess I can go by my bro in law's advice. Watch it....judge it..and if it's not as good as the original, just shrug your head and keep watching the original instead.

Bah, I don't want to start up a fan-boy argument because I consider Carpenter to be legend but damn, it's hard not to get a little skeptical about this film if you love the original Myers flick.

She's definitely pretty. I saw Cry Wolf. Is she the girl who sets everything up? If so, I thought she was pretty good in that role. DarkJedi, I'm a Halloween nut, too, and I doubt any remake or reboot will take the place of the original for me. BUT, I think Zombie will turn the story on its proverbial ear and deliver a great movie that will appeal to new audiences and please those of us who grew up with the original. The film's going to have an August release? That doesn't give the production very long to get the film in the can. Why don't they do an October 26th release, or better yet, Wednesday, October 31st? Pump the numbers up a little going into the weekend and get some buzz going for the first weekend. The Omen got a nice bump from that marketing gimmick.

She's pretty, but she looks about 15. How old is she supposed to be playing? Haven't seen any of Zombie's movies, so I can't comment as to his style or ability. I just don't see the need for this movie. The original stands on its own. Remakes should be reserved for movies that would benefit from better storytelling and/or better effects. In this case, there's neither.

I posted this a couple days ago on the Hayden Pantierre in Halloween thread. She is a Disney kid and may be getting her own spinnoff from That's So Raven. She also has a teenie rock album coming out. I personally wanted Elisha Cuthbert, but oh well. I'm not crazy about this choice, but I'm not going to picket the movie set over it. Laurie Strode is not the focus of this movie, MM is, and she doesn't even show up until the second half of the movie. As for you Halloween nuts, I'm in the bowl with you, but I do feel this movie was needed. They either should have let the series die, or do something like this to give it new life. No way any movie will ever take the place of the original Halloween, but if it stinks, it makes the original look that much better, and if it's good, it will spark interest in the original and bring to the forefront what a great movie it actually was.

Im probably the biggest fan of Halloween and John Carpenter.
I saw the Original at age 6 and loved it ever since then. It scared the shit out of me ,plus the fact that the house i live in is in Nj and resembles the street from the end of Halloween. I even live up the street from a Nj Psychiactric Hospital.

I consider Halloween 1 and 2 the only ones in the series worth watching. I hated the rest and id rather See Rob do this then another lame Sequal with stupid eye candy actor's and actresse's with a lame mask ,and a horrible story.

I love the casting so far all the choices are great and we will just have to wait and see what is instore for us. Im not believing any Rumors what so ever i'll just wait and see it for myself when it comes out to the theatre.

And she wasn't in Cry_Wolf, I believe whoever reported this may be confusing her with Lindy Booth, she played Dodger who if I remember right was the set up girl.

I am also a huge Carpenter fan of all his movies, love every single one(even memoirs of the invisable man). After what they did to the remake of The Fog and Assault on Precient 13, i didnt have high hopes for this pitcure.
like darkjedi said, if u dont like it keep on watching the original. But rob zombie is going to do it and i have high hopes for that!
I read a interview of his and he stated that this was a whole new take on the halloween franchise, that it was a remake but wasnt. i could personally do without laurie strode and i see no reason to have here in this one.
(side not: whatever happened to John Carpenter!!!! i want to see another one of his movies before this cool ass dude passes away!)

If Zombie's take is going to be so original, why not just start another franchise and leave Halloween alone? Oh yeah, because it generates interest and guarantees a big opening weekend. What an "artist".
