SCREAM Again About WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER

By: Movie News

Icons of Fright.com attended the Monster Mania convention held this past weekend in Cherry Hill, N.J. had these two key stories to report.

Wes Craven was on one of the panel discussions and he told the crowd that he recently had breakfast with Neve Campbell. Craven revealed that Campbell had recently spoken with the Weinsteins about coming back for SCREAM 4. "Wes made it clear that this was the first he'd heard about it, but he got the impression that Campbell seemed to be seriously considering another stab at Sidney Prescott."

Icons also saw HALLOWEEN 5's Don "Michael Myers" Shanks speak. Shanks "announced that he had been cast as the Fisherman in I'LL ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, but he did not reveal any other casting information on the project.

I seem to remember Neve Campbell stating she wouldn't do another Scream... I guess having a few years without a hit will change your mind real quick. I just don't know what else they could do with this franchise. The first movie was a great combination of slasher flick with parody. The second was ho-hum and the third one had it's tongue so far in the cheek I expected Anna Faris to pop out and engage is some ill conceived silliness. I say let it go. As for I Know...? For the love of God, why? What did we ever do to Hollywood?

What, in the Hell are they thinking over in LALA Land? I mean the first "I know" was okay for its time. It came out at the righ time, when all these slasher/parody teen movies were popular, but now, do we really need to have another one. Slasher/thriller flicks are just starting to get good again. Besides, can anyone really take one of those movies seriously after watching the Scary Movie franchise? I wonder if they will resurrect Jack Black with dreadlocks?

They can do Last Summer flicks as long as they can still shove them in the B-movie section, I don't care.
What I care about is the Scream franchise, which I love, but the third one was already kinda crappy. Why oh why try to do another one? The Scream films represented an era that's already gone.

I guess the bottom line is that Hollywood never knew when to stop.

I loved the Scream movies, but unless they do something extreme, I can't see it as more than a weekend DVD rental. Now, if they turned Miss Campbell's character into the killer, but kept us guessing until the end (ala the recent DeNiro/Fanning film), that might interest me. After all, could the Sydney character really not be half-crazy herself after what transpired in the first three films? As for the "Still" franchise...let it be still, as in the grave. I really enjoyed the first film, but the second film should have gone straight to DVD. The only redeeming factor of this movie would be to see the lovely Miss Hewitt again, but I can't imagine spending $10 for that honor.

Scream is a good franchise that doesn't need another movie. The I know franchise is long dead and another movie is just a waste of film as far as I'm concerned. Just another of the Holywood money machine at work.

Hahahahahah, it's like the beginning to a trailer for an awful scary film. "In Hollywood...nothing EVER stays dead! NOTHING!!"

Sorry, oregondude. That film's been out for awhile so I just figured everyone had seen it. My sincere apologies to you and to anyone for whom I may have spoiled the film.
