Scribe pushing Justice League Movie

By Robert T. Trate     June 06, 2012

While Disney and Marvel were busy shooting "The Avengers" last year, Warner Brothers quietly began getting its own all-star superhero pic back on track, tapping "Gangster Squad" scribe Will Beall to write "Justice League," based on the WB-controlled stable of DC Comics superheroes.

Warner Bros. had no comment on the top-secret hire, which, due to its timing, was more in anticipation of -- rather than a reaction to -- the box office success of "The Avengers."
Beall has yet to turn in his "Justice League" script, though he has become a favorite scribe of Warners. He's writing the studio's "Lethal Weapon" reboot and its remake of "Logan's Run," which is expected to reteam "Gangster Squad" thesp Ryan Gosling with his "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn. Warners will release "Gangster Squad" on Sept. 7.
Warners originally tried to mount a "Justice League" movie several years ago, with George Miller directing from a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney. That iteration was set to star Adam Brody as the Flash, Megan Gale as Wonder Woman and then-newcomer Armie Hammer as Batman. Back in January 2008, the studio cited a lack of tax breaks as the main reason it pulled the plug on the project, which also needed a rewrite that wasn't possible because of the writers' strike.

DC Comics is a vital component of Warner Bros.' intellectual property, as "Green Lantern" scribes Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green were tapped to write "The Flash" for director Greg Berlanti, while another "Green Lantern" scribe, Michael Goldenberg, was hired to write "Wonder Woman." Additionally, Brad Peyton is working on a new draft of "Lobo," while John Kamps and David Koepp are developing "Spy vs. Spy" as a potential directing vehicle for Ron Howard. WB also developed the "Aquaman" property several years ago.
Thanks to Wiseguy for the submission.

that is great that they are writing a story, but i want set up movies.  and please dont rush it...well that may be too late.

Who is this Will Beall?????

Why not release a Flash an Wonder Woman movie first?

InnerSanctum 6/6/2012 2:55:28 AM

Because they can't.  They can't release individual movies that are worth a crap (Batman being an exception.)  So, they will try to cash in on the coat tails of the Avengers.

He writes Castle, I know that vitieddie...

If Josh Whedon is not directing it - FAIL

Or at least (Please God hear my prayers) - a director / producer who has actually read the comic prior to doing this movie!!!

I can really see this story ending here.   Awesome news to get us all giddy like school girls and a year from now we will be wondering, " What ever happen to that Will Beall script we heard about a year ago?"

I never thought that DC needed to follow Marvel's blueprint. I was all for their last attempt which wouln't have had any build up either. You can do a JL film, and then go solo. The thing is that after Marvel's almost impeccable plan it's hard to see anything else working better.

To add to to this I remember Snyder saying that his Superman would live outside of any JL film's universe. Wouldn't 2 Superman turn some people off or confuse them or would it be apropos.

That will really stink if they don't.  The reason my family enjoyed The Avengers was because of the set up movies.  They had no idea of heroes in the Marvel universe; and they only know of Batman and Superman in DC.  I do mean really know.  They know about Wonder Woman, and my middle one watches the Justice League on tv, so he knows a little more.  The Avengers was able to show the relationships and those are just as important for DC.  Man, I would take a GOOD Superman / Batman movie.  Their dynamic is something to read in the books.

I think it would be silly to have 1 Superman doing a movie and then introduce a different Superman for a JL movie.  I agree with your statement Wise, but I personally would prefer it now.  For me it brings so much more to the group movie.

And we were talking about this a while back and I don't think they can go "alien invasion" otherwise it may seem cliche.

I think earth based is the way to go. OMAC like the first JL film intended still sounds good to me. Or the one I thrw out there was something along the lines of Monster Men with Batman. Hugo Strange experimenting with Arkham patients and amking them well monsters. Something loosely based on that I think would work, transforming villains into genetic freaks.

Or maybe Aquaman centric and let's go the sea route and Atlantis.

Whatever they do I'm feeling good that DC is moving forward with this. I think it would be beyond awesome to see this team on film
