SUPERMAN Flying Circles in Development Hell - Aug 20, 2008 - 06:43am
REBOOT. How can this even be something to debate?

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS - Aug 15, 2008 - 07:30am
Genndy Tartakovsky did a brilliant job with the Clone Wars shorts for Cartoon Network, and they should have waited until he was available for this. He's busy with the Dark Crystal sequel, so they really missed out on having a genius on board. Samurai Jack and Clone Wars were both fantastic.

Gyllenhaal Caught on Camera as PRINCE - Aug 13, 2008 - 06:05am
Also, I really think that there's a misconception in terms of the appearance of ethnic Persians. Persians are pretty fair skinned historically and though there's been some genetic blending over the centuries people have the perception that all Persians are brown skinned and have Arabic features which just isn't accurate. The Prince in the game had Green eyes and lighter hair than Gylenhaal has in that pic. The casting's fine. Find something else to hate. He's a good actor, and the people responsible for this delivered on the action and fun in the Pirates films. I think this film could get game adaptations back on track. Bioshock and Gears can feel free not to suck too. Hanso ever see anything else on that rumour that Ratner was going to abuse the God of War film? I'm really hoping that was a bad joke.

Gyllenhaal Caught on Camera as PRINCE - Aug 13, 2008 - 05:54am
Nice to hear some hetero guys who aren't diminished in their manhood by admitting the dude looks good. Refreshing to say the least. It's easy to call somebody gay when you know they're hip deep in writhing foxy ladies, but clearly inaccurate. I need to hit the gym and get me a Spartan physique, it looks like Jake is on the 300 workout plan. I'm really stoked about this film. I don't know if Farah is going to be a character in it, but I'm hoping for some Parminder Nagra. Something about a lovely Indian girl with a British accent is just delightful. As for the Prince's accent in the game, it was an English accent. This is the usual approach though since he's noble born. If you translate into English it makes sense to translate to the royal version of the tongue.

Angelina Jolie Replaces Cruise in EDWIN A. SALT - Aug 13, 2008 - 05:44am
Uh, yeah, scoxocs, that's what Ponyboy in the very first post, so you're a bit late on that one. Ya' might want to peruse the forum before you post to make sure you're not saying what's already been said. As far as Jolie's potential involvement in a future Bat film bring it on. She's be a hell of a candidate for Catwoman or for Talia Al Ghul. She's put on a little weight so the heroin chic thing might be over for her. I'm not into the scrawny look either, so I understand the lack of enthusiasm to a point, but her agent just needs to sneak her a cheeseburger every day for a couple of weeks. ( I say this as a dedicated vegetarian, the girl needs cheeseburgers). She's perfect for either proposed villainess/love interest for Batman. I still want Billie Piper for Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn, and either James Franco or Joseph Gordon Levitt as the Joker (with the strict understanding that they are to emulate Ledger's take on the Joker to the letter).

Gyllenhaal Caught on Camera as PRINCE - Aug 11, 2008 - 05:34pm
I'm praying this turns out well. I still count Sands of Time as one of my all time fave games. I played it literally start to finish 50 times consecutively before I could put it down. I hope they get the same musicians for the film. Best soundtrack to a game EVER! He does look the part, If you're turned on by that, I think it says more about you than it does about him, Goatartist, but we long ago established that you're a gaybashing closet case. Joeybaloney was making a joke, and you jumped right on it thinking he was for real. Typical.

TV Wasteland: Torchwood Audio Episode? - Aug 11, 2008 - 05:30pm
Yeah, what gives with the double ripoff on Who and Torchwood? I know David's doing Hamlet, but I have to live without Captain Jack and Gwen for most of a season as well? With BSG ending soon 2009 is going to suck sci fi television-wise. It's all up to Terminator TSCC I guess. Doctor Who was going to be cut to several specials regardless because Tennant is doing Shakespeare, which is preferable to having to have a regeneration/new Doctor. 'Still sucks though... I'm still waiting for the Sarah Jane Adventures to come to DVD stateside. 'Can't get enough Doctor Who and related spin offs. I'm still heartbroken Billie Piper's proposed alternate universe show never panned out but at least season 3 of who gave us a little closure.

Four New Character Posters for STAR TREK - Aug 11, 2008 - 05:23pm
I hope, that's all any of us can do. Abrams has to know that if he blows this the legions of hardcore Trekkers will tear him to shreds. I do think that it's dangerous to mess with the icons, and I do think it's important that they imitate the original actors to some degree. Obviously not to the point of parody, but these characters were completely the product of the actors who played them. It's kind of like recasting Indiana Jones or Star Wars (the originals). It's one thing to pick a new Batman or a new Bilbo because those characters were alive and well in other mediums long before they were on film. Kirk and Spock ARE William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy. They MADE those characters, and those characters were made of them. I miss Star Trek, and I hope everything turns out okay, I'm keeping my expectations within reason, and hoping for the best. I miss Star Trek. Too bad Enterprise got cancelled right when it found a way to differentiate itself from it's predecessors and deliver some good Trek. Plus T'Pol was the hottest Vulcan ever.

Update: Pitt Confirmed and Office's B.J Novak Up for a Role in BASTARDS - Aug 08, 2008 - 08:11am
Wow, I must have totally missed something. When this film idea was first floated a few years back they said it was going be set in 'Nam, and that Adam Sandler was being considered, now we're back in WWII and they've got Pitt. Either way it should be a blast. Any word on whether they're still courting DiCaprio?

Top Maniacal Rumors: Connor Reunion, Lethal Sequel and Gladiator America - Aug 08, 2008 - 08:07am
Can Statham pull of an American accent? 'Not so sure. He'd need a hairpiece to play Murdock, Matt's not balding. Not a bad idea if they can get him a hairpiece and teach him to talk like a Hell's Kitchen native. Miller should totally write and direct though. As for Superman's villain? What the hell are they going to do about that stupid kid they introduced in the first one? Superman Returns was a disaster. Let it die, and try again with a new director and cast.

Mania Exclusive Interview: Director Alex Proyas - Aug 08, 2008 - 08:02am
As much as I loved the Crow, I want to see it redone. In the wake of Sin City and 300, I want to see a version that sticks to the book more in terms of the visual style and story. Along with Watchmen and V for Vendetta, J. O'Barr's The Crow ranks among my most beloved literary works.

Mania on this Day: KOTOR Remembered, Sahara Confusion and JLA Direction - Aug 04, 2008 - 07:11am
Gotta say, as big of a Star Wars geek as I am, and after all of the raves about KOTOR, I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it's because I didn't play it until I got a 360, but the voice over was terrible, the framerate was lousy, and I just can't stand turn based combat. Bioware is great, and apparently KOTOR II fixed a lot of that, but I preferred Jade Empire, and loved Mass Effect. I'd love to see them do another Star Wars RPG with next gen power, but as long as the combat is real time.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 31, 2008 - 03:02pm
MIKWOZ, If there's one criticism of the film I can understand and sympathize with, that would be it. Personally, I was able to get past it based on the emphasis they placed on the duality of the character. He's supposed to portray himself as an otherworldly creature, and to inspire fear, plus I think they wanted him to sound a lot different from Wayne when in costume. I can't hate on you for that opinion, they may have laid it on a little thick, I found it a little hard to take in Batman Begins, but given the tone they've chosen, and the obvious Frank Miller influence the gravelly Bat voice grew on me. His portrayal in those books was always a gritty Eastwood style Bats anyway with a voice like glass on gravel. Plus a lot of his speaking lines and monologues towards the latter part of the film are in stressful situations or after he just got the crap kicked out of him, and that's bound to put a little croak in your voice. Anyway, a far more legitimate and logical assessment than Jonniej1017 was able to formulate, and while I was able to learn to appreciate it, I can totally see where you're coming from.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 31, 2008 - 10:24am
Actually, you clearly didn't understand the multiple layers of my previous post, my rant on the inappropriateness of using "gay" as a negative adjective was directed at Flint, I did call you out for suggesting that I "blow you" which is equally idiotic, and is a personal attack, so to indicate that what you're saying isn't personal after lowering yourself to the level of a high school dropout is asinine. Regardless, it's all about context. And no, you've yet to indicate a single thing about this film that was predictable, aside from the fact that anybody who reads the comics knows the basic framework as to how the villains develop. Also, you should try writing in actual English if you expect anybody to take you seriously. "ur" is not a word, nor is "defned" or "u". Generally if something you've typed is underlined in red, it's not a word. I'm sorry if I gave you the false impression that I'm taking your opinion personally, even though I pointed out that behaviour such as suggesting that I "blow you" says a lot more about you than it does about me. I'm not the least bit offended that your opinion of this film differs from that of pretty much everyone else on Earth. Quite the contrary, you're entitled to your opinion. Again, you've missed the point. What I was illustrating is that 99.999999999 percent of the people who've seen this film enjoyed it, and that trying to convince us that it was sub-par, substandard, lame, predictable, crappy, or any other negative adjective is pointless. You can't convince people to agree with you by being abrasive. As I stated, and shall repeat again for your benefit with expanded context, this film delivered on all of the promises of the first one. Ledger's performance as the Joker was unsurpassed, Eckhart's performance as Harvey Dent was dead on, and Bale's Batman was as tormented and menacing as could reasonably expected. Was I surprised by the eventual result? No, I knew what to expect from Nolan and Bale, I've been reading Batman comics since I was 4. I pretty much knew what to expect plot-wise, but it was handled by a capable cast, and director, and portrayed more faithfully than any other adaptation of the character. Maybe you're just not a Batman fan. But having read and loved all of the material that inspired this film, I along with most of the movie going public enjoyed it. You've yet to supply any critical observation as to what was so predictable aside from the stuff that any Batman fan would know and expect. The point I was making and that you so clearly missed is that the film doesn't need defending. Pretty much everybody enjoyed it except you. Again, that's your problem, you're in the tiny minority. Get it this time? Is it sinking in? You didn't like it. That's fine. Everybody else did. Get over it.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 31, 2008 - 08:04am
Also I'd like to point out that calling people's sexuality into question because you disagree with them just makes you look like an ass. Saying that things are "gay" or telling someone to "blow you" says a whole lot more about you than it does about them. If you wanna' call names, go for it but use some creativity. Better yet, learn to string a coherent sentence or paragraph together, demonstrate some intellectual fortitude and find an intelligent way to tell me I'm wrong. Calling things "gay" causes me to feel sorry for you, and removes any possibility of me taking you seriously. I simply write you off as another bigoted cromag.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 31, 2008 - 07:56am
As for jonniej1017, you are in the miniscule, minute, insignificant minority on that one. Even the most jaded, bitter, basement dwelling net nerds are overwhelmingly positive on Dark Knight. There's no bandwagon, it was a good movie, and the vast majority of even the most discerning genre geeks agree that it was one of the best comic book films of all time. I don't know what kind of tripe you usually watch, but if you didn't enjoy the film, you're pretty much on your own and all alone, so get used to it. As for blowing you, sorry but again, you're on your own. I don't perform sexual favours on people who have the misfortune of disagreeing with me. My wife wouldn't appreciate it. By the way, she loved TDK too. I've seen it twice, and will be buying it on Blu Ray. Nothing about it was predictable, aside from one character's demise, that everybody pretty much saw coming. I actually enjoyed it just as much the second time. I actually was a little cold on Batman Begins the first time I saw it, but the more I watched it the more I enjoyed it. TDK delivered on all of the promises of the first film, and leads the franchise in a good direction. If were bored by it, that doesn't say much about your intellectual capacity, your attention span or your taste in movies. Look, the bottom line is that if you're a fan of Batman comics like Miller's Year One, or the collaborations of Loeb/Sale like Long Halloween, you're going to like this film, if not, sorry, but you're not going to change the minds of millions by bitching on a web forum. The huge gigantic insurmountable majority of people enjoyed the movie. Tough noogies.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 31, 2008 - 07:48am
Ha Ha Ha, Flint was so offended that I called him out that he sent me a private little love note calling my avatar "gay" and telling me to "fuck off". Rather than formulating a cohesive argument or logical response he resorts to juvenile nonsense. What a joke. I can't take anyone seriously who uses "gay" as a negative adjective, like some kind of high school closet-case, not to mention that my avatar features both a male and female character from Doctor Who, which is pretty much definitively heterosexual. Flint, your powers of observation need some work chum.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 30, 2008 - 07:46am
And Jonniej1017, I really hope that you're joking. If you thought The Dark Knight was crap, it doesn't say much for your taste or intelligence.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 30, 2008 - 07:42am
Flint, I cited several films that were DIRECT ADAPTATIONS OF THE BOOKS, DID YOU MISS THAT SOMEHOW? None of those films were watered down to suit the palate of the average idiot, yet they were all commercially successful. Your logic is flawed, and if you'll reread my post without getting your G.I. Joe underoos in a wad, you'll see that I explained that if you make a quality film the average idiot will still show up. Those people have no clue what to expect when they see these films. As long as there are some cool action sequences and special effects, they'll show up to see them. I also disagree with the notion that comic book fans alone aren't enough to support this industry. We are. The sales of comics, video games, collectible action figures, and feature films aren't all an accident. This stuff is being specifically marketed to a specific audience, with the hope that some of the flakier folks will open their wallets too. As for my specific contribution to the industry at large. I don't see films from mediocre hacks. That's for starters. I didn't watch X-Men 3 or Fantastic 4 2 because they were garbage. I didn't buy Blade 3 or Spiderman 3 on DVD because they were lousy. I personally am not a filmmaker, but I am going into game development, and my commitment to quality, and standards will be no different there. If you like mediocre crap, and you're willing to fork over cash for a ticket along with all of the other sheep, have at it, but many of us expect more from these films, and when committed dedicated filmmakers are in control of these properties, the results prove that your point is invalid. 300, Sin City, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and the forthcoming Spirit and Watchmen films are all sticking pretty close to the source material, and all of the aforementioned films that have been released as of now have been commercial successes. Add to that the fact the Hulk, and new Punisher films are reboots due to the poor quality of their predecessors, (which were also commercially successful) and it becomes clear that you really are defending mediocrity, and that you don't have any major industry insight that the rest of us are missing. Why reboot a film that the average idiot didn't know was bad? Because the fans hated it, and had the fans enjoyed it it might have been even more successful. Stop marginalizing comic book fans as if we're some sort of fringe demographic. It's asinine. The quality of the current crop of films speaks to that better than either of us could, so just stow it, and go enjoy your crappy Ratner films. The fact that you'd mention Ratner, Bond, and Sean Connery in the same sentence speaks volumes.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 08:35am
Anyway Hanso congrats on the PS3 purchase. The Batman Begins Blu Ray is awesome. The first Blu Ray I bothered with actually. Iron Man will probably be the second. The only problem with Begins is that the collector's set didn't include the flash drive with the Bat logo on it included in the regular DVD set. 'Seems like an odd choice. I want a Bat USB drive. Jerks. Anyway the movie looks great in HD, and if you need a shopping list for PS3 games to buy I can hook you up.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 08:33am
Oh yeah, the jungle scene was ridiculous, but I don't really care about the crap with Shia, I was concentrating 100 percent on Ford as Indy. I can't really understand why Hollywood is forcing Shia Ladouche on us. He's kinda' totally unremarkable. Oh well. Like I said, despite it's flaws it could have been worse, and I actually watched the whole original trilogy prior to going to Crystal Skull, and I'll never forgive Spielberg for forcing Cate Capshaw on us. God she sucked.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 29, 2008 - 08:23am
I can't tell you how sick I am of people defending genre films being bad because the "average" film goer didn't know the difference. Screw the average film goer. The average film goer didn't know crap about Sin City or 300, and they loved 'em because they were good films. Comic geeks loved them because they were good adaptations. I don't really give a rats ass about the average film goer. If you make a good film, word of mouth will spread, and they'll show up in a theater seat. Do you guys think the average moron knows a thing about Watchmen? Hell no, but Snyder knows he'll wind up in a dumpster in an alley somewhere if he doesn't make a huge effort to be true to the books. Stop defending mediocrity based on the fact that the average moron is too thick to know the difference between a good comic book film and a bad one. We're the ones those films are being made for, and if the films are good the sheep will catch on.

New X-MEN Spin-off in the Works? - Jul 29, 2008 - 08:18am
Singer did his own part in screwing up X Men. Reboot. Reboot. Reboot. Oh wait, they've already let Jackman screw it up further with this non canonical Wolverine movie. Great. I'll be skipping that.

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 29, 2008 - 08:12am
Man, you guys don't know crap about the 1950's do you? In the 30's it was a given that Indy as a pulp character would hunt for religious artifacts and fight Nazis. That's what everybody was afraid of in the 30's: crazy occult crap, and what would happen if the Thule society of the Nazi party got ahold of it. I totally would have been down for more of that had they done the fourth film in say 1995 or '96, but they waited way to damned long for that. The newest film captured all of the stuff that people were afraid of in the 1950's: UFOs Nukes and commies. Was Crystal Skull as good as Last Crusade or Raiders? Hell no, but if you expected it to be you're on crack, it's been like two decades since the last film. As far as I'm concerned it was better than Temple of Doom, and it was a fun film in it's own right. Things change, stories change, and I really don't see the point of coming back to a franchise after two decades and doing the same damned thing you were doing back in the day. I was against this idea from the moment they announced they had finally started shooting. I thought they had waited way too long. All that aside it wasn't as bad as it could have been, and I think the amount of bitching and moaning from my fellow nerds is a bit out of proportion. Crystal Skull did not suck balls, your expectations were monumentally unreasonable, unattainable and just plain unrealistic. The movie was alright. Not great, not groundbreaking, and not just the same shit we've seen in the other three. You guys need to get a little bit real. Ford's pushin' seventy for fracks sake, what the hell did you expect? Laying it all on Lucas is asinine anyway. Spielberg has made more than his share of stinkers as well. Remember War of the Worlds? And the last halfway entertaining film Ford did was Air Force One. Everybody had input on where the story went on this one, so blame yourself for expecting too much. Stop expecting every film you see to be the best film ever.

SDCC: McG Praises Bale in TERMINATOR - Jul 28, 2008 - 08:22am
I've yet to hear a single piece of actual evidence that Bale assaulted anybody. Given the shape he's in, one would think that if he assaulted somebody the evidence would be incontrovertible. It's rarely rosy when it comes to family relationships for child actors, and I'm thinking this whole assault allegation is a verbal argument blown way out of proportion.

Goodman Takes on Zombies in LAST BLOOD - Jul 28, 2008 - 08:17am
Oh I know, 'cause CGI totally ruined Lord of the Rings, King Kong, 300, The Matrix, Sin City etc. CGI can be a very useful tool if used properly. Plenty of amazing films have implemented a lot of computer generated imagery. It's all in how it's done. Just as any two works of art using the same medium may differ in quality. I know it's fashionable to hate on some things, but CGI isn't going anywhere. It costs infinitely less than standard FX and in many cases it allows filmmakers to spend their budgets on decent casts and better writing. If your love of a film is hinged on how much CGI is implemented before the film is even shot, I'd say you're bound to be disappointed more often than not.

SDCC: Sam Raimi Ready For EVIL DEAD 4 - Jul 28, 2008 - 08:11am
I know your damned words! Klatu Barada Niuuhghnh? Hell yes, go back to what you know, and leave Spidey alone!

Legendary Backing Up GEARS OF WAR - Jul 25, 2008 - 07:32am
If you're not interested in the story in video games, you're playing the wrong games. Sure nobody really gives a rat's ass about the story in Super Mario Galaxy, but games like Half Life 2, Bioshock, Gears of War, Halo, and God of War are all about story. If you skip the cutscenes due to a minimal attention span, I feel bad for you, and hope you don't reproduce. As for the Resident Evil films, they weren't terrible films, just terrible adaptations of Resident Evil. Aside from a few plot points they barely resembled the games they were based loosely upon. Resident Evil 4 and the forthcoming Resident Evil 5 surpass nearly every horror film in existence in terms of quality, and fearful moments, and the films are action/horror fluff. Good eye candy, but hardly bar raisers. Bioshock is coming, Prince of Persia is coming, Gears is on it's way. Hopefully these films will set the standard. Also Hanso, IGN announced today that (gag) Brett Ratner is on the short list to direct God of War. What the hell. Wiseman will do Gears justice I feel, his Underworld films were a blast, and from what I heard he did right by Die Hard.

Bryan Singer Overseeing CAPESHOOTERS - Jul 24, 2008 - 08:44pm
Superman Returns was a nice tribute to Richard Donner. That's it. Routh was an okay Chris Reeve Impersonator, and not a bad Superman in his own right, but everything else about that film was wrong. Bosworth was wrong as Lois lane, and the whole "kid" angle was asinine. Spacey as Luthor was a cool idea on paper, but it just didn't wind up panning out as a good idea. Give it a year and reboot. It worked for Hulk, it worked for Batman, and it's looking pretty promising for Punisher. Concentrate on rebuilding the franchise from it's foundations without all of the liberties taken in the older films and in their tribute film of a successor. No cellophane superman "S" weapons, no becoming human in order to hook up with Lois, no Superman time traveling elements, and no friggin' Super-kid. It's a no brainer: REBOOT. 'Call it "Man of Steel" if you want, but reboot. There were just too many silly departures from canon in the early films, and there's no way to integrate any of that with the very real world that's been established in Nolan's Batman films. We need a Superman that can stand toe to toe with Bale and Nolan. Routh isn't bad, but he's not that Superman, and Singer isn't that director.

Comic-Con: The Owlship From WATCHMEN - Jul 24, 2008 - 08:34pm
Yeah, Moore is definitely a crazy bastard, but damn he writes beautiful stuff. I enjoyed the Wachowski take on V for Vendetta thoroughly, despite it's departures from the book, and thought it actually was more cohesive in film form. The book is amazing, but the film packs a punch too. 'Can't blame him for being less than thrilled with the changes, but that's my one exception to the rule of sticking to the source material. If he didn't like the graphic novel of 300, I guess that's his problem because the book and film are fantastic. Frank Miller is as much of a genius as he is, so perhaps there's some rivalry there. 'Can't wait for Watchmen or the Spirit. 'Sure wish they'd get on the Sin City follow up though.

Comic-Con: The Owlship From WATCHMEN - Jul 24, 2008 - 06:42am
This looks amazing. The film looks just as good. I really hope this is the one that restores Alan Moore's faith in adaptations of his work. Zack Snyder is able to put his ego aside and bring the writer's work to life on screen, and most filmmakers have to put their own spin on things. That's what set films like 300, and Sin City apart. They actually stuck to the book.

Mania Manifesto: Top 7 Video Games at E3 - Jul 22, 2008 - 06:07am
God of War III is still a ways off. 'Just a teaser trailer. Never mind that, Darksiders: Wrath of War, Infamous, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Prototype, Mirror's Edge, Tomb Raider Underworld, Resistance 2 all blow that DC Universe game out of the water. MMO's just don't do it for me. Being a huge God of War fan, Hanso, you should definitely head over to IGN.com to check out some trailers for Darksiders: Wrath of War. You get to play as War, of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse in an open world hybrid of God of War and Zelda. Good stuff.

EA Boss Confirms KOTOR MMO - Jul 21, 2008 - 11:11am
I was a little late getting to KOTOR, but I wasn't overly impressed. After all the hype, the crappy framerate and lame voice overs were a turn off. That and I cannot abide turn based combat. I don't care for MMO's either. Bioware should focus on Mass Effect's downloadable content and it's sequels, or a KOTOR game that focuses on single player, and real time combat. If you could combine Force Unleashed with Mass Effect, I'd be down for that.

BATMAN BEGINS (Limited Edition Gift Set) - Jul 21, 2008 - 11:04am
I bought the Blu Ray version. What gives with the lack of a flash drive for Blu Ray? I don't care about the preloaded pictures, but a Bat logo on a flash drive would have been sweet. I couldn't really care less about the comic. It's kind of redundant after seeing the footage for Dark Knight already included on the disc.

Marvel Studios Pressuring WB/DC To Change? - Jul 15, 2008 - 09:39am
Wiseguy, if you thought Batman Begins is boring you have no attention span. Sad for you.

Marvel Studios Pressuring WB/DC To Change? - Jul 15, 2008 - 09:38am
Nrollins, I had a foot ready to cram into your ass until I kept reading. Funny stuff man. The sad part is that there really are people that dumb out there. Reboot Superman. Singer's "Richard Donner tribute" didn't cut it, and doesn't stand up to Nolan's stuff. Flash with the Goyer script from a few years ago should be reconsidered, and I liked the idea of Ryan Reynolds as the Flash. I still think Guy Pearce would be a good Hal Jordan Lantern, and Megan Fox or Lena Headey would be a good Wonder Woman. I think a Green Arrow film is long overdue, and if they hadn't waited so long Carey Elwes would have been brilliant. 'Bit old now I think.

Mania on this Day: Half-Life Surprises, Firefly Hopes and Robot Speculation - Jul 15, 2008 - 09:30am
And he posted his little self important bitch session twice, and has the audacity to accuse others of pretension. If you're so above it all, why are you still here? Go spill your bile somewhere else and get over yourself. Still waiting for that Half Life film. Sigh... 'Never gonna' happen. Halo, Half Life, God of War. All worthy of big screen treatment. What's the hold up? If Prince of Persia, Bioshock and Gears of War live up to their pedigree, I can only hope it will spur the others out of the depths of dev hell.

Sigourney Weaver Up for ALIENS 5 - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:05pm
Bill the Pony, I think you need to put things in perspective. Alien 3 and Resurrection weren't the worst films ever made by any stretch of the imagination, but they in no way shape or form lived up to the pedigree of the classics forged by Ridley Scott and James Cameron. If you liked 'em, that's your problem. I've read the novels, and graphic novels that were written prior to those films being made, and they're far superior to the cinematic sequels we wound up with. Some of us just aren't into swallowing mediocrity with a smile. Sorry if you can't deal with that, but being impolite isn't going to do anything to further your point. If you don't want to hear opinions that are contrary to your own, perhaps the internet isn't the place for you. Alien 3 and 4 just weren't that great, and the lack of quality in those films opened the door for AVP and it's sequel to wind up being lousy as well. Get over yourself pal. If you don't like what's being said, nobody's forcing you to keep reading. Feel free to express your opinions, but don't act like a baby when you don't like what other people say.

Sigourney Weaver Up for ALIENS 5 - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:01pm
Beagle, you're dead on about Sunshine. Truly one of the only recent films that stands up to Scott's or Cameron's early work. Wiseguy, I think Event Horizon is the best film Paul W.S. Anderson ever made. Too bad he blew it on AVP. He always had a good eye for subject matter, but hasn't demonstrated consistency. I couldn't make a horror list without Snyder's Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days/Weeks Later. Underworld and it's sequel were great too. Too bad the Alien franchise went downhill after the second. I don't hate Alien 3 mind you, I just hate the way they boxed themselves in with Ripley's death, and then took a much weaker approach to dealing with that decision than the Dark Horse books. Had Fox stuck to Dark Horse's stories the remaining Alien films, and Alien's Vs. Predator could have been something really special, rather than the lackluster letdown they wound up being.

Sigourney Weaver Up for ALIENS 5 - Jul 09, 2008 - 05:45pm
It's too late for the Alien film they SHOULD have made. The Earth War series by Dark Horse was amazing. Rather than bringing Ripley back as a stupid clone they downloaded her memories into an android (ironic since she despises androids). A religious cult unwittingly unleashes an Alien apocalypse on the Earth and Ripley leads a team of marines to the Alien hiveworld to kill the Queen Mother. Resurrection was a disaster. Even Ron Perlman and Brad Dourif couldn't save that film, and the Alien Ripley angle was just lame. The human/alien hybrid was ridiculous.

Photo Gallery: Bat Pod On Tour - Jul 09, 2008 - 05:34pm
Actually Wiseguy, Bob Kane's Batman used a pistol briefly back in the day. 'Course that's not the same thing as automatic weapons affixed to a motorbike, but as long as he's not blowing crooks away left and right I'm cool with it. Maybe it fires rubber bullets. I doubt Bats will be filling body bags. Tholo makes a good point about the cape though, that "memory cloth" better remember to stay the hell out of the spokes, or Bats is going to need to utilize the rarely seen Bat-neckbrace.

Photo Gallery: Bat Pod On Tour - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:22am
I still think they should have just called it the Batcycle. It doesn't really look much like a pod to me. It still looks pretty bitchin' though.

DVD Shopping Bag: One Disc, Two Disc, Blue Disc? - Jul 09, 2008 - 06:18am
Screw the blu ray player, buy a PS3 and kill two birds with one stone, since the PS3 is probably the same price as a regular player anyway. I've had mine since September though and have yet to buy a blu ray disc. It's not so bad with Gotham Knight, but in Canada blu ray discs are 30 bucks apiece. I'm a sucker for fancy packaging and collectible swag, and Batman Begins is the first blu ray set to really have any of that. Guess what my first blu ray movie is going to be.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Riddler's Clues, Super Millar and Abe Frankenstein - Jul 08, 2008 - 08:24am
As for Robin if they get to a sixth or seventh film it will be long after Nolan and Bale depart. At that point the series will need some new ingredient, and then, and only then can Robin be considered. Not the cheesy "Holy this, holy that" version, but the angry kid that Bruce sees a lot of himself in, and chooses to mold into a force for justice to prevent the kid from going down the same dark road he took in his youth. Spend a film with him in training, and he can show up at the very end in his costume. I don't even want to think about casting at this point, but if they're trying to build a cohesive continuity bringing him in 8 or ten years from now wouldn't be bad. Dick Grayson in his prime with no Chris O'Donnell or rubber nipples was a great character. Barbara Gordon would be a good addition as well, but as someone else pointed out in another thread, she's still a baby, so again, we need to see 5 or six more films in this continuity before we go there. As good as these films are, as long as whatever director and actors inherit the franchise after Bale and Nolan and company depart are true to the groundwork that's been laid, there's no reason to ever have to reboot again. Batman Begins was issue number one, and there's no reason we shouldn't get to see a new issue every few years for the next decade or so.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Riddler's Clues, Super Millar and Abe Frankenstein - Jul 08, 2008 - 08:11am
Casting options for Batman Continues. Poison Ivy- Bryce Dallas Howard Catwoman- Kate Beckensale/Scarlett Johansen Harley Quinn-Scarlett Johansen/ Billie Piper (if she can pull off an American accent) Riddler-Kevin Spacey's a good choice for this, unless he comes back as Luthor in "Man of Steel" but Guy Pearce would be a good second option. Joker- Paul Bettany Penguin should be left alone for a while, it's hard to approach that character without either going totally campy ala the 60's version, or totally ridiculously morbid ala the Devito version from Batman Returns.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Riddler's Clues, Super Millar and Abe Frankenstein - Jul 08, 2008 - 08:04am
CATWOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scarlett Johansen with black hair or Kate Beckensale. We all need something to wash the Halle Barry taste out of our mouths. Frank Miller's Catwoman was a mynx. Unlike Burton's loony bin version the Selina Kyle of the comics was a hot Cat burglar with ambiguous motives. Riddler would be okay too, but I think that as great as Ledger's performance as the Joker appears to be, you cannot shelve a villain of that magnitude permanently. He's far too important a character in the Batman mythos. Ledger was under a lot of prosthetics, and as long as they can find an actor of similar caliber and stature bringing the Joker back in the third or fourth film is an absolute must. Let it go for one film out of respect for Heath maybe but you can't just abandon the character. In any event the actor who would replace him would have to carry on his take on the character for the sake of continuity so his version of the Joker would live on anyway. If Scarlett doesn't make it for Catwoman she'd be a fantastic Harley Quinn.

NINJA GAIDEN II - Jul 08, 2008 - 06:28am
I would call this a last gen game with a next gen coat of paint, but the camera is a disaster, the graphics still look waxy and the gameplay is standard linear action. It's even less groundbreaking than Devil May Cry 4, and I wasn't overly impressed with that. When there are action games out there like Assassin's Creed, which succeeds at being a "Ninja" game far better, even though protagonist Altair isn't even a Ninja, Ninja Gaiden II fell flat for me. Triple A titles are coming by the boatload this year, and after Metal Gear solid 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Too Human, Fallout 3, Gears of War 2, Resistance 2 Prototype, Infamous and so on, I really don't think Ninja Gaiden 2 is going to be on anyone's "Game of the year" lists, and personally I still enjoy God of War let alone God of War II more than this game.

RESIDENT EVIL 4 Is "Possible" for Sony - Jul 05, 2008 - 11:53am
Cinephile, the simple answer is that the movies have very little to do with the games, which in terms of story are far superior. Resident Evil 4 is the only one really worth playing anymore anyway in terms of gameplay, as it's one of the best games of all time. If you own a PS2, Gamecube or a Wii, do yourself a favour and grab whatever version you can get (Wii is best) It's story does not involve the T virus, and not having played the previous games or seeing the movies will not in any way impact or diminish your enjoyment of Resident Evil 4. The complex answer is that vertebrate species and invertebrate species have completely different physiology, biochemistry, and neurological functions, and diseases don't necessarily affect all types of creatures the same way. Essentially the T virus in the films isn't seen to have an effect on insects or snails or worms etc. for the same reason that houseflies and mosquitoes can transmit and carry infectious diseases that are deadly or dangerous in some way to us, yet have no affect on them. Conversely, in real life the tiny mites that are quickly decimating the honey bee populations of the world do not pose any immediate threat to humans. Different biochemistry=different reaction to infection in some cases. Insects and other invertebrate species may not be vulnerable to all of the infections that affect mammals, and vice versa. However, in the original games giant mutant undead T virus infected/created insects were all over the place, so they're obviously taking a different approach in the movies. I guess they thought Giant bugs were a bit 80's for the big screen.

RESIDENT EVIL 4 Is "Possible" for Sony - Jul 04, 2008 - 08:31am
Gee, I'm with those of you who think it should be based on, oh I dunno' RESIDENT EVIL 4. It was only the single greatest survival horror game of all time. I bought it on all 3 systems it was released on, and I'm still playing it even in the wake of Halo 3, Mass Effect, Gears of War, GTA IV Metal Gear 4 and so on, and so on. Any game that remains that entertaining 2 or 3 years after its release and so many other ground breaking titlesw is BEGGING to be adapted into a film. If I wasn't sure Resident Evil 5 would be even better, I would say that RE 4 would forever hang on to it's title as scariest game ever. Base the film on one of the games for a change. Leon S. Kennedy, Salazar, the Ganados on the big screen. Do it.

New Posters for PUNISHER Online - Jun 28, 2008 - 01:20pm
I'm really digging the trailer and posters but is this a reboot? I liked Jane as the Punisher, he just had the misfortune of playing the character pretty well in a lousy film. Are they picking up where they left off with the intention of improving, or are they starting from scratch? Is this a sequel, a reboot, or what?

Mark Millar Still Loves SUPERMAN - Jun 28, 2008 - 01:16pm
I agree that there were a few scenes in 'Returns that were really powerful, but in hindsight it's just because they played on my love of the first film, those scenes, those music cues, were all a ploy to make me nostalgic. After that I dried my eyes and felt a little jilted that I had been played that way and I haven't been able to bring myself to watch it again. Reboot, revise, and leave Donner's masterpiece alone.

Mark Millar Still Loves SUPERMAN - Jun 28, 2008 - 01:11pm
Just let him do it already, it can't be any worse than Singer's 2 hour Donner tribute. Routh wasn't a bad Chris Reeve impersonator, but it took an awful lot of makeup and blue contacts to get him to look that way. Get someone who, aw I dunno' LOOKS LIKE SUPERMAN to play the role, and let Millar have a crack at it. Who the hell cares who he writes for, if he's got a good pitch, one that will make us forget how terrible Superman Returns is, let him get cracking on it before he loses interest. I sure would love a Worlds Finest movie, and we need a Superman who is up to the challenge of sharing the screen with Bale. They totally boxed themselves into a corner with Supes having a son in 'Returns. Who the hell wanted to see that story? Luthor's plan to sell real estate on Kryptonian crystal in the middle of the ocean may be the dumbest super villain plan ever. As for Singer's X Men films being great, I wouldn't go that far. They were pretty good, but I've said it before and I'll reiterate: Those films were essentially the Wolverine show: Guest Starring the X Men. All of the other characters were barely consequential, and lead characters like Scott and Ororo were limited to minute long segments and lame filler. Good movies, but hardly worthy of the praise Singer gets over them. He's never lived up to the promise he showcased on the Usual Suspects since that film.

First Teaser Poster for SAW V - Jun 28, 2008 - 01:02pm
Wow, I remember when half of the posts on this site used to be vaguely intelligent, instead of inane and juvenile. The percentage has lowered to the point where we're below Aintitcool standards now. Way to lower the bar. As for this film, I'm torn, the first few were pretty good, but it's getting real tired at this point. Let it die before it gets out of hand.

CLOVERFIELD 2 On Hold, 300 Prequel Coming - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:51am
Come on guys just because Blade 3 sucked doesn't mean Goyer's a bad director. After all of the crap I've heard about how Spiderman 3 sucked but it wasn't Raimi's fault blah blah, studio pressure blah blah blah, the same could easily have been said about Goyer's misstep with Blade 3, and of the two, I personally enjoyed Blade 3 far more than Spiderman 3, and yet everybody's ready to kiss Raimi's ass and give him another wad of cash to do Spiderman 4. Goyer's a fantastic writer, and just because he's had one major flop doesn't mean he's out of the business of directing. Even geniuses Spielberg and Ridley Scott have delivered less than groundbreaking work on occasion. James Cameron was one of the most brilliant directors of the 80's and 90's, but what has he done lately? Give Goyer a chance. Hellboy 3 shouldn't have to wait 6 years for Del Toro. I'm glad he's doing the Hobbit films, but somebody needs to pick up the torch in Mignola land. If anybody else has any suggestions I'm all ears.

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:41am
Uwe Boll will not be directing God of War. Sony has had several studios option it but since it's one of their biggest franchises they're probably waiting to see how Prince of Persia, Bioshock and Gears of War all turn out. All three of those films are being handled by capable people, so with any luck the trend of lousy video game adaptations will be at an end. Uwe Boll can no longer benefit from the loophole in German tax law that allowed him to write off his losses. Just because most video game adaptations to date have been less than stellar there is no reason to assume that they'll all suffer the same fate. Len Wiseman is perfect for heading up Gears of War, and Gore Verbinski is the perfect choice for Bioshock. Both of those should turn out great. I'm really hoping Prince of Persia defies expectations as well. Clash of the Titans is a masterpiece. Some of you truly are jaded by modern special effects.

Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 06:01am
Great news, do it justice and maybe we'll finally get our God of War film. Don't piss on Harryhausen's memory.

CLOVERFIELD 2 On Hold, 300 Prequel Coming - Jun 26, 2008 - 06:15am
300 prequel? Penned by Miller? Okay, I'm in, but I'd still rather see God of War. The fact that that hasn't been adapted yet is incomprehensible. In the wake of the success of 300 and Beowulf that's a no brainer. Get Miller and David Jaffe from Sony to work on that together As for Del Toro and Hellboy 3 as much as I've loved his work, and look forward immensely to Hellboy 2. 4 years is a long time to shelve something, so in all likelihood it will be 6 years before the film is released. Perlman isn't a kid anymore, he's not getting any younger. It would be better for Del Toro to move into a more tertiary role, to allow him to ensure that his vision isn't compromised, but so that we can see the third film before the middle of the next decade. Del Toro can be a creative consultant or a producer, and whoever takes up the directing duties can visit him in Middle Earth twice a month with dailies and set reports. David Goyer would be a good choice to take that on I think. Del Toro is going to be quite busy with the Hobbit and while that's fantastic, I don't want HB to suffer for it.

Bale Reuniting with Crowe in NOTTINGHAM? - Jun 24, 2008 - 12:21pm
Bale's got a British accent, he's just a damned excellent actor and covers it well. A lot of actors use any chance they get to use those skills, and it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I heard him speak naturally. He's the man. Him, Ed Norton, Johnny Depp, Brad Pitt, and Gary Oldman are the best this generation of actors has yet to offer. Shia LaBeof and Orlando Bloom better start practicing, because none of these kids coming up today can touch those aforementioned masters, and too many of these guys now are counting on their looks to carry them. Bale will be a good Robin Hood in my opinion. A good counter to Crowe's Nottingham.

Straczynski Talks SILVER SURFER - Jun 24, 2008 - 12:16pm
It's all in good fun Gauley no hard feelings whatsoever. I hate the average moviegoer the same way I hate people who wear band T Shirts for bands they know nothing about like those idiots who try to mosh to Tool and don't understand the complexities of the music. If everybody had better taste, people like you and me wouldn't have to settle for pseudo adaptations so often. For me V for Vendetta was just more cohesive in film form, and that whole bit in the Moore original about the Nose falling in love with his Orwellian computer fell flat for me. I preferred John Hurt's truly evil fascist to Moore's ambiguously motivated one. Like I said that's my one exception, I'm really hoping Zack Snyder is as faithful to Watchmen as he was to 300. I do like Moore's ending in V better and wish they could have combined the two somehow. Evey should have kept one of those masks for herself. Mind you, as far as the Marvel stuff goes FF wasn't one of the ones I hated outright, I enjoyed the comics, but the FF were always great supporting characters in cross overs, especially with Spidey and the Surfer. There were enough things done well that I didn't completely despise it, aside from Doctor Doom and Jessica Alba's lousy acting, but it's certainly not on the same level of awful as Elektra or Punisher. I really liked the Torch like I said, Chris Evans was awesome but Doom was lame. So far of the Marvel stuff I'm most disappointed with X3 and Spiderman 3. Again, maybe they're not bad films, but they're terrible adaptations and huge steps down from where those franchises started. Spiderman 3 especially 'cause unlike Ratner Raimi is a proven director and should have known better. I think you must have skipped some of the Two Towers in reading it though, Tolkien was anything but short winded on that battle and other than having Haldir and the Lorien elves show up to save the day, he didn't add a whole lot to that battle. Jackson certainly cut things differently for pacing, but over all it was pretty much in sync with the books, aside from removing trivial characters like Bombadil and Glorfindel, and giving Arwen a meatier part. Anyway, it's been fun. We'll see if this Surfer flick gets off the ground and I'm sure we'll all have plenty to celebrate or complain about then. For now this summer at least has been rife with quality superhero fare. Here's hoping that Dark Knight and Hellboy continue the trend.

Straczynski Talks SILVER SURFER - Jun 23, 2008 - 11:41am
Gauleyboy your point would have been well made a few years back, but after films like Sin City, Hellboy, 300, Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk, not to mention Batman Begins direct adaptations can be successful, and this has now been proven numerous times Some minor compromises usually have to be made in the interest of time constraints, but none of those films were watered down or homogenized for the masses and they were all quite successful. If the only people who went to see these films were comic book fans they would still be wildly successful. The MILLIONS of dollars generated in superhero action figures, video games, cartoons, T shirts and bubblebath based on comic book heroes demonstrates this aptly. For film studios to pear down the stories and piss on the original fans is counter productive and a slap in the face to the people who've ensured these characters are still relevant 50 years after their inception. If you make a good movie, word of mouth will get to even the most thick headed members of the film going crowd. I realize that most adaptations of books are crap too, but occasionally somebody gets it pretty close to perfect as was the case with Lord of the Rings and it's not as if that flopped. To indicate that these stories have to be butchered and diluted in order to be successful or palatable to the masses is ridiculous and has already been proven to be false several times. The average film attendee had no clue what Sin City was, and yet the film was still successful, and since they made an effort to be true to the source material it pleased most of the fans too. 300 was pretty much a page for page adaptation as well, and the average idiot loved it regardless of whether they knew who the hell Frank Miller was or not. Frank Miller fans loved it too. In fact the only case I can cite for studio/creator intervention in improving a comic adaptation is with V for Vendetta. I love Moore's original, but enjoy the film even more. Blasphemy perhaps, but that's my one exception to the rule. If you enjoy these movies that's cool, but don't use the stupidity of the movie-going public as a justification for the mediocrity that so many of these films suffer from. Studios make lousy films, not because they think good films won't be successful, but because lousy films often are. Stop buying tickets to half hearted adaptations, and maybe you'll see more quality product on screen. If you buy crap, usually the man will continue to market crap. If the average douchebag can't comprehend the complexities of a superhero movie without the filmmaker totally alienating the fans of the comic, SCREW THEM. If the film is true to the comics the people who buy the comics, T Shirts, video games and collectibles based on the comics will probably go see it twice anyway, and buy the limited edition DVD set that will inevitably come out. A movie doesn't have to be crappy and unfaithful to it's source material to be successful. Period.

Straczynski Talks SILVER SURFER - Jun 21, 2008 - 08:34pm
Well, Gauleyboy, you're in no way a freak, but you are a contributing factor in the fact that one out of every 3 comic book adaptations isn't as good as it could have been. You have low expectations and the studio's want your money so they keep meeting those low expectations at the expense of the vast majority of the fans. If you don't enjoy the Fantastic 4 comics that's totally cool, but the films ARE SUPPOSED TO BE BASED ON THE COMICS, so they might have pleased the casual viewers but the real fans, who honestly should be the target audience, weren't impressed for the most part. I did like the Torch though. That's one character that they got spot on. He saved the first film at least, once I heard Galactus was a cloud I didn't even bother with the second one. Doctor Doom was a total joke and I couldn't take anymore of that either. I've heard good things about Doug Jone's Surfer, and it's a shame his character was springboarded by such a lousy film. These movies may be entertaining, but they're not good adaptations of their print counterparts. They're kind of like watching a cover band play tunes written by a much better band. Instead of the Beatles, you've got the Beatle's Experience. Daredevil wasn't as bad as people said but Jennifer Garner was horrible as Elektra, and her follow up film was beyond terrible. Daredevil's costume was pretty cool in my opinion, I didn't really mind the updates to the suit, and they didn't shy away from the fact that he has to chew codeine constantly to deal with the fact that he's constantly brawling and is in considerable pain. Elektra is supposed to be the world's greatest Assassin, and they dropped the ball on that big time though. Lee's Hulk was crap as we all know, Jane's Punisher was a good effort in a bad film, and Spiderman started strong crashed and burned by the third film. House cleaning is in order. The bottom line is that despite the fact that none of these films are terrible per se, Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk have raised the bar considerably, and the pseudo adaptations just don't cut it at this point. Emo Parker, friendly neighbour Punisher, and baby sitter Elektra just don't deserve to sit on the same DVD shelf as those great superhero films. And Ghost Rider barely had anything to do with the comics. The effects were cool, and that's about it. I don't care if Nick Cage did name his son Kal-El, he just isn't that great of an actor. For some of these movies they get a few things right in terms of tone, or comic banter and it's easy to forget about the bad acting and terrible story. In any one of those films, there were moments where you could feel that they were on to something, but for those of us who grew up on this stuff the moment is fleeting. Stark and Banner have taken the first steps in changing that. Please don't encourage the studios to take steps backwards by praising mediorcrity.

Sony Targetting May 2011 for SPIDER-MAN 4 - Jun 21, 2008 - 08:05pm
Maybe they should ensure they have a script, cast, and director before they start planning release dates. The last one was among the worst Marvel films so far, and in comparison to Iron Man and the Hulk it just isn't cutting it anymore. Hasn't enough damage been done to warrant a few years of rest for ol' Spidey? Get a better cast, a new director, and wait for Sony's license to expire so Spiderman can be brought into the cinematic Marvel universe properly. Mediocre emo Parker isn't worthy of existing in the same world with Norton's Banner or Downey Jr's Stark. If Brad Pitt gets cast as Thor or Cap, McGuire is going to be so far out of his league that it'll be even sadder than it already is. With the possibility of actual quality crossovers due to Marvel handling their own properties this franchise needs a fresh start.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 05:52am
Hellboy 2 looks amazing. Anybody who didn't like the first one is on crack, but anybody who isn't keen on seeing the second one is just insane.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Leo America, Knight Time & Punisher Hex! - Jun 20, 2008 - 05:51am
Damon wouldn't look right under the mask. DiCaprio or Pitt would be perfect. Brad would be a good choice for either Thor or Cap, he's versatile enough. If Pitt does Thor Michael C. Hall from Dexter should be Cap. If Pitt does Cap' Karl Urban should be Thor.

Perlman and Jones Talk HELLBOY II - Jun 14, 2008 - 12:12pm
Hellboy rules. I cannot wait. HB is my big movie this summer second only to Dark Knight. It's nice to hear some positive hype though. Now if Sideshow would just announce a Hellboy 2 action figure...

Christensen Up for a JUMPER Sequel - Jun 11, 2008 - 02:56pm
Hahahahaha, yeah, him and him alone. Direct to DVD.

TV Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Hub - Jun 11, 2008 - 02:55pm
Dazzler would probably prefer the show to have the same feel as it did in the earlier seasons. However after two years of dogfights and FTL jumps it would have become stale. After New Caprica you can't really go back to that relatively lighter tone. As for the show being depressing now, well, the show began with mankind being nearly wiped out, so it hasn't exactly been a giggle fest to this point. The show is just fine the way it is. It's not Star Trek, the guys who get killed aren't ensign whatever in a red shirt, the characters you care about might die, the consequences are far more severe than in your typical popcorn sci fi show. The writers have a clear vision, and if you're not enjoying this season, that sucks for you. Most of us are still loving it.

TV Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Hub - Jun 11, 2008 - 02:50pm
Best show on TV aside from Doctor Who. I'm devastated that we'll have to wait until February for the rest. Torchwood and Who will have to tide me over.

TUROK Adventure In the Works? - Jun 11, 2008 - 02:47pm
The new game had very little in common with the comics. Just your typical shooter that happens to have dinosaurs. The older games, the first one anyway was pretty groundbreaking for it's time, but all of this Turok attention is a little late in my opinion. I'd rather see a Jurassic Park remake. An R rated Jurassic Park remake.

Favreau Concerned About IRON MAN 2 Timing - Jun 10, 2008 - 06:00pm
Give the man the time he needs. If Marvel needs product for the 2010 summer, they've got plenty of work to do on Captain America and Thor. Cap' better spend most of his flick in WWII though and then be unfrozen for the Avengers. They're planning on beating the Spiderman franchise further into the dirt anyway, so they've got that on the agenda as well. Maybe they could try doing a GOOD Fantastic 4 film, reboot Daredevil, anything but rush Iron Man 2. They did such a good job on the first one, and Hulk is looking good, I really don't want them to blow it.

Another WATCHMEN Video Update Online - Jun 07, 2008 - 12:16pm
Snyder's 300 adaptation was spot on, I don't think he plans to deviate on this. We may have to wait for a DVD director's cut to see everything, but I think he's planning to be pretty much frame for frame faithful to the book. At most the theatrical cut might be a little trimmed, but there's really no reason to leave everything out. The book isn't all that long.

DLC for Take Two's GTA IV Delayed - Jun 07, 2008 - 12:03pm
The DLC isn't coming to PS3 any time soon, Microsoft paid big bucks to ensure this. As for the delay, rumours abound as to the specific nature of the content and range from the requisite cars, guns and clothes, to new areas within Liberty City, to the more grandiose suggestion that San Andreas might be updated and released as a downloadable environment. The DLC is the only reason I went with the 360 version since I own all the other GTA stuff on the PS2. I actually fired up my PS3 for the first time in a while the other day to try out the Godfather "Don's Edition" which I found for 15 bucks at Toys R Us. The game is a decent update of the PS2 version, but I was once again quite annoyed by the system's interface. I was part way through a mission, and was taking machine gun fire when an error message popped up over my game to tell me my connection to the server had failed. My game continued unpaused and my character was killed in a hail of bullets as I vainly attempted to clear the message to pause my game. When you get an error message on Microsoft's machine the game pauses automatically until you clear the message. Sony has a bad habit of doing things differently just for the sake of differentiating themselves, and they don't always do what's best for the customer. Oh well, this week the PS3's killer app will finally be in my hands in the form of Metal Gear Solid 4. As for you guys waiting it out to see which system comes out on top, it's a lost cause. Both systems are going to have "must have" exclusive titles, so buy a 360 this year play all of the great 360 games that are already available, and save up and buy a PS3 next year when they have a broader library, and they drop the price again. Either that or just give up and buy a Wii, and enjoy all 5 great games that system has to offer, the system's cheap, but it doesn't have much to offer older gamers. At this rate the PS4 and XBOX 720 will be released before you make up your minds, and you're missing out on some amazing stuff.

Raimi Wants to Direct SPIDER-MAN 4? - Jun 07, 2008 - 11:48am
Laz, great point. Parker is supposed to be a wise ass. They never got that right. The first film was good, but introducing Gwen 2 films late, and blaming Ben's death on Sandman, emo Parker, and so on destroyed what was a good foundation in the first one.

Raimi Wants to Direct SPIDER-MAN 4? - Jun 07, 2008 - 11:46am
Why? Hasn't he done enough damage? Almost Unbiased, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the series got worse with each film. I've taken a lot of flack for that position.

Zetumer Ready to Pen Herbert's DUNE - Jun 07, 2008 - 11:40am
Well said Brendan. Both versions of Dune have suffered in one way or another, Lynch's version was beautifully filmed and it wasn't a bad movie by any stretch of the imagination, but the story was pretty much butchered, and the sci fi version was uneven in terms of acting, and had a limited budget to work with. They're both good in different ways, but they're far from perfect. Jedi4sshield, if you don't know any Dune fans who want to see this remade, you don't know very many Dune fans. This novel has yet to be done true justice on film, and a big budget adaptation is a necessary starting point if you ever want to see the other books adapted. Nobody is going to make a sequel to a film that's 24 years old that was untrue to the source material. Nobody is going to make a sequel to a sci fi miniseries for the big screen. The sci fi films were good, but they're not the epitome of what Dune could be if adapted faithfully with modern effects and a first rate cast. Dune is my favourite novel next to Lord of the Rings, and it deserves the kind of attention that Peter Jackson gave that epic classic. If they do multiple films, they can certainly continue as long as there's source material to work with, and as long as they're faithful most of us would love to see the franchise continue as a long running series of films, but if you're going to do big budget adaptations, you need to start at the beginning.

Zetumer Ready to Pen Herbert's DUNE - Jun 06, 2008 - 07:26am
Lynch's version will always be dear to me, the visual aesthetic was amazing, but as for the story it fell way short. The Sci Fi version was much much better in that regard. If they can somehow combine the best of both worlds for the new version and follow Jackson's Lord of the Rings pattern, they might be able to do it justice. This should be a 3 hour theatrical experience with an hour and a half of extended scenes for the DVD release, and they better be ready to follow it up with several sequels of equal quality and care. They'll be hard pressed to find a better Gurney Halleck than Patrick Stewart, or a better Leto II than James McAvoy. For what they had to work with the Sci Fi channel version is a miracle.

New Shoots Planned for VALKYRIE - Jun 05, 2008 - 07:01am
Oh, I forgot, he was pretty good in Ridley Scott's Legend, but that was pretty early on as well.

New Shoots Planned for VALKYRIE - Jun 05, 2008 - 06:56am
Uh, no, Cruise really isn't that great of an actor. He plays the same character in every film he's in. He has zero range. Maverick, "Race Car guy", Ethan Hunt, "Minority Report guy", "Lawyer on the run guy from the Firm" they're all the same guy. No difference in performance, no subtlety. Compare his work to someone like Gary Oldman who blends in like a fuckin' chameleon and dissolves into the character in every role he plays, this is why I don't give Cruise much credit as being a vital player in the industry. The only film he was EVER in where he played something other than a cocky prick was Born on the 4th of July. If he could have tapped into whatever he had in that film more than once, he'd be much better off, as he was fantastic in that film. And yeah, it does matter if everybody in a movie is performing with German accents, and one dork is speaking with an American accent, if he can't be bothered to actually learn some lines in German, that's the absolute least he can do. Most films involving Germans have German accents. In fact in almost any movie where the actors are playing people who speak another language they at least learn the accent. I have no qualms with stating that I don't like Cruise's "cult" status, or his weird behaviour, or the fact that he left his wife because she didn't want to join his cult, and went on to bang a chick half his age who probably fantasized about him at the age of nine while watching Risky Business on VHS, but none of that has anything to do with my appraisal of his acting ability. John Travolta is a scientologist as well, and it hasn't prevented me from enjoying some of his work. Russell Crowe can be an abrasive jerk in public but the mofo can act. Hell, even one of my heroes Harrison Ford has a similar limitation to Cruise, Han Solo, Henry Jones Jr. even his Jack Ryan aren't all that different. He's good at playing that particular hero archetype, and not much else. Fortunately he hasn't strayed from that pattern too many times, though when he has, it's been pretty disastrous too. K19 Widowmaker? That crappy movie with Anne Heche, that was Six Days and Seven Nights Indiana Jones should have avoided. Cruise is good at playing one kind of role, and unless there's a short, arrogant, badass in the movie he's got no place in it. He sure as hell doesn't have the range to play a German let alone a Nazi. Remember how believable he was as an Irishman in Far and Away? By believable, I mean the exact opposite of believable. Every time he tries to do one of these Oscar caliber films, he totally blows it. Look at the Last Samurai. Yawn.I'm not saying Cruise hasn't been in some good movies, or that he's a terrible actor per se, he's just not as great as he should be after 2 decades in the spotlight, and unworthy of the adulation that some people give him. Top Gun was cool in 1987, but he never really evolved beyond that as an actor. He'd be better off if he quit taking himself so seriously. If he's got a cameo in Tropic Thunder, that's something I'd like to see. Bill Shatner is another actor who's been better off once he got over himself, and now he's won some Emmys as a result.

Bruce Willis Leading Game Adaptation of KANE - Jun 05, 2008 - 06:30am
Rockstar shut that down. They don't want GTA being made into a film. I can kind of agree on that one. As far as Gibson goes, he doesn't shy away from violence, but neither does Paul W.S. Anderson or Uwe Boll. Plus Mel Gibson's probably not real interested in Greek Mythology. As far as God of War being PG-13, every game in the series is rated M. Since it's a property owned through and through by Sony I think that may be why we haven't seen it yet. They could use the cash at this point since they're losing $250 on each PS3 sold. The parts in the machine cost roughly $250 more than they're charging per console, so they're going to need to make that up through games, and a God of War film wouldn't hurt. Honestly, I don't think there's any way for Kratos to use the Blades of Chaos without an R rating. Those suckers are brutal, let alone the Gauntlet of Zeus or that big-ass Hammer he had in God of War II.

Christopher Lee Agrees to Return to MIDDLE EARTH - Jun 05, 2008 - 06:14am
Yeah, in the recent Q. and A. Del Toro said he had something special planned for Perlman, Beorn would be a good option though. Eckhart wouldn't make a half bad Bard either, now that ya' mention it. Perlman might be a bit too tall to play a dwarf, it would take an awful lot of CG to pull that off believably.

McG Updates Blog for TERMINATOR - Jun 04, 2008 - 05:24pm
At the end of this trilogy if the last scene isn't of Kyle Reese entering the time machine, I'm going to be disappointed. That would be so supremely circular and awesome.

New Shoots Planned for VALKYRIE - Jun 04, 2008 - 05:21pm
PROFESSIONAL? ARE YOU FRACKING KIDDING ME? Cruise hasn't turned in a decent performance since Interview With the Vampire. As for this, he's not even bothering to speak with an accent. It sounds like wholesome American Ethan Hunt with an eyepatch and a Nazi uniform. The stuff I've seen is pretty pathetic. As if Maverick Mitchell is the one saying "We need to kill Hitler". I saw a few clips on the Colbert Report and it was pretty sad. Seriously, this has been pushed back so many times, I can't believe they're still planning on releasing it. Cruise is a has-been. Mission Impossible sucked, Minority Report sucked, War of the Worlds sucked. Optimisim is wasted on this film. It will suck. And the only thing Singer's gotten right in the last few years is the X Men films, and even they weren't spectacular. More like "Wolverine: Guest Starring the X Men". The Usual Suspects was awesome, but he hasn't really done anything on peer with that to date. Sorry to rain on anybody's parade, but Cruise choosing to play a "good Nazi" isn't going to do his career any favours. As Colbert said: "Good night and good Nazi"

Christopher Lee Agrees to Return to MIDDLE EARTH - Jun 04, 2008 - 05:14pm
Meh, McCoy was an okay Doctor, but of the old Doctors, I liked Pertwee and the Bakers better. No comparison to Tennant or Eccleston though, I know it's fashionable to always prefer the original but the new Doctor Who series is without peer, hell the only other sci-fi shows in the same league are Galactica and Torchwood. As for Bilbo, I like the idea of McAvoy best. His Leto II in Children of Dune was awesome, and how can you not love Mr. Tumnus? Picture him with curly hobbit hair, and he's dead on. Lee is a must so they need to get moving on this pronto. I can't wait to see what Del Toro has planned for Ron Perlman. He'd be a hell of a candidate for Bard the Bowman.

TRANSPORTER 3 A Go For Lionsgate - Jun 04, 2008 - 10:37am
I heard Revolver was a botched job, with some good moments. We'll see how Rockinrolla' turns out, even though Statham isn't in it. God, Madonna fucked up Guy Ritchie's career, his first two films were great, and then straight downhill from there. Poor bastard.

TRANSPORTER 3 A Go For Lionsgate - Jun 04, 2008 - 10:36am
He was brilliant in Snatch, Lockstock, and the first Transporter. He's got a lot of potential, but keeps choosing lousy material.

Bruce Willis Leading Game Adaptation of KANE - Jun 04, 2008 - 10:31am
Hanso, I'm right there with you, except for Mel Gibson. As far as I'm concerned that guy shouldn't be allowed near a camera again. I can't even watch Braveheart the same way after his drunken shenanigans. I didn't buy his excuse about his antisemitic comments being due to being drunk. As for God of War, I'm almost thinking they'd be better off going the Beowulf route and go full CG, so they can get the same guy voice Kratos as in the games. The subject matter would lend itself well to CG since everything's going to have to be CG anyway. They can certainly try to make it look a bit more realistic than Zemeckis did with Beowulf, and sort of put it somewhere in between the look of Beowulf and 300. It's a damned shame they haven't gotten on the ball for that one. I'm really hoping Prince of Persia, Bioshock and Gears of War turn out well. I'll still never get over losing a chance to see Guillermo Del Toro and Peter Jackson collaborate on Halo. What a missed opportunity. The dude responsible for shutting that down should have a plasma grenade shoved up his ass. Like I said, we'll see how Kane and Lynch turns out, Willis is a badass when he's not souring his reputation by keeping bad political company or hanging out with his ex-wife's boy toy, but there are plenty of games more deserving of big screen treatment. I mean we've got no shortage of crime thrillers, but the cinema is way short on Kratos. Man, how cool would a Shadow of the Colossus, or Assassin's Creed film be, and yet this second rate title gets first crack?

Kingsley & Molina Join PERSIA Adaptation - Jun 04, 2008 - 04:26am
Gyllenhaal actually does bear some some resemblance to the Prince from Sands of Time. I hate to give a genetics lecture again, but a thousand years ago, physical traits in that region weren't exactly like they are today. Get that dude into the gym, get him a tan, and he should be fine. The Prince's eyes were blue, so that's not a problem either. It would have been nice if they found an actor from the region to play the role, especially since those guys are unfortunately relegated to playing extremist roles on 24 and the like, but then again we're lucky they didn't go with Orlando Bloom or something.

Bruce Willis Leading Game Adaptation of KANE - Jun 04, 2008 - 04:21am
Well, the game didn't exactly get stellar reviews, but there was some promise there in terms of the characters. We shall see how this turns out.

Bryce Howard Taking Over in TERMINATOR Trilogy - Jun 03, 2008 - 06:01pm
The time travel elements in the Sarah Connor Chronicles negate a lot of what happened in T3, but other than the last ten minutes of the film, that isn't saying much. I've been pretty impressed with how they've handled it thus far. They've pretty much stated that while Sarah isn't exhibiting cancer symptoms yet, she may not be out of the water. 'Still anxious to see how they bring Cameron back, now that the doctor who made the skin for Cromartie is dead. T4 should be what we've been waiting for, the frackin' war. That's what I wanted T3 to be rather than a series of car chases that were all to similar to those in T2. Sure Kristana Loken is better eye candy than Robert Patrick, but she wasn't nearly as menacing. Kate Brewster's presence in T3 isn't really going to have any impact on her presence in T4. John could just as easily have met her at any point in time, so I'm sure they'll work it out. Once the DVD set is out for Chronicles we should all watch the first 3 films and the series back to back and see if we can plug some of these holes. I have hight hopes for T4, with Christian Bale attached. That guy just refuses to suck. Batman will punch a Terminator, and it will be glorious.

Capcom Shows New Lady for RE 5 in New Trailer - Jun 03, 2008 - 04:19am
It was so long ago, I can't remember as far as RE5 being built on 360. You know how that stuff is anyway. It's far enough along now, that they should be pretty much on equal footing. They started working on it right after RE 4 was initially released though, and the 360 development kits were released before Sony got the PS3 ones out to developers. At this point it won't make much difference. Equilibrium, I hear what you're saying, but it's one thing to see part of a game being played by someone else, and to play it yourself start to finish. Chainsawing a locust in the face is one of the most visceral experiences to be had in gaming today. And if EA/Bioware is ever wise enough to put Mass Effect on the PS3, do yourself a favor and check it out. As for Uncharted, don't get me wrong, it was a great game, but there wasn't much new ground broken there and as pretty as the graphics were it was way too damned short. It kinda' followed in Indy's and Lara's footsteps but I'm looking forward to any future titles in the series, even though Naughty Dog is deep in Jak territory now. Now if the Ico/Shadow follow up is on the horizon soon, then I'm getting pumped. Those two games are two of the best PS2 games, and I'm drooling over the though of more. As you say God of War 3 will be spectacular. Here's hoping they can open the world up a bit. Linear play areas aren't really going to work on the PS3. Give me the entire island of Greece to explore as Kratos, and I'll be a happy happy nerd.

Orci Says 20 Robots Battling in TRANSFORMERS 2 - Jun 02, 2008 - 11:23am
Why do they even print this stuff. BAY HAS STATED REPEATEDLY THAT IN AN EFFORT TO THWART LEAKS THE STUDIO WILL BE RELEASING FALSE PLOT INFORMATION THROUGHOUT THE PRODUCTION. This has been stated a number of times. He's screwing with us. Believe nothing until you see a trailer.

Bryce Howard Taking Over in TERMINATOR Trilogy - Jun 02, 2008 - 11:21am
I'm not putting too much stock into that PG-13 stuff yet. It's hard to rate a film before it's shot. As for Ms. Howard, I haven't seen her in anything but Spidey 3, and aside from the fact that her character was supposed to be dead by that point, she did a good job. I haven't been big on Claire Danes since "The Rainmaker", but she was one of the better parts of T3. Not that there were many.

Capcom Shows New Lady for RE 5 in New Trailer - Jun 02, 2008 - 11:14am
RE 5 is a simultaneous launch for both PS3 and 360. Not sure who the new lady is, she doesn't resemble anyone from the previous games. I'm still waiting for them to decide to remake the first 3 games using the RE 4 engine for the Wii. It's easy money waiting to be made and most of those games are seriously due for an overhaul. From what I've gleaned RE5 was designed on 360 architecture and will launch for both systems as current plans indicate. It's going to be a few years before the cell processor is able to pull ahead in any perceptible way so it's a little early to be getting excited about any major differences in graphical output or performance between the two machines for the two versions of RE 5. I do have to question your statement about preferring Sony's exclusives to Microsoft's at this point though. Primarily I ask "What exclusives?" Other than Metal Gear Solid 4, the only real exclusive hits on the PS3 are Ratchet and Clank, Resistance Fall of Man, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (Unless you count the Ninja Gaiden remake, which I don't). If you're suggesting that you prefer, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Haze, and Lair to games like Mass Effect, Gears of War, Dead Rising, and Halo 3, well, have fun with that because I bought each of those Sony games and they were all pretty lackluster. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 has a lot of potential, but the bottom line is that they're still trailing Microsoft at this point in terms of quality exclusive titles (especially with Ninja Gaiden 2's release and the forthcoming Fable 2 and Too Human and Gears of War 2) and unless you've played the aforementioned Microsoft exclusives, it doesn't make much sense to say you "prefer" the exclusive titles from Sony. I own both systems, so I can definitively make a statement regarding the offerings available on both systems. Have you played any of those games? I'm not attempting to be insulting, I'm just trying to get a feel for what you're basing your assessment on. Personally, even the best of Sony's stuff at this point hasn't struck me as ground-breaking, which isn't to say that they don't have a bunch of multiplatform stuff that's fantastic. Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, and Oblivion are games that any gamer should have in their collection, and personally I'm sick of brand loyalty and exclusives altogether. That's why I buy everybody's stuff so I never miss out on a good game. Analysts are projecting that third party exclusives are going the way of the dodo, due to high development costs, so Microsoft and Sony will have to start taking over more responsibility for making their consoles desirable. Sony's still got a bit of catching up to do, and while the climate may change a year or two from now, right now, Metal Gear is the only first rate title even on the horizon from Sony at least until the fall. I'll be happily dusting of my PS3 for that, but most of their great offerings are probably going to be announced at E3 and hopefully we'll get an armload of great stuff around the holidays. Resistance 2, Infamous, God of War 3, and the new Jak game will help to tip the scales a bit, and if we see any announcements at E3 regarding the follow up to Shadow of the Colossus, Sony will be well on their way to catching up, but let's not go congratulating them until they have something on par with Mass Effect all of their own. That being said, both consoles are getting Fallout 3, so everybody wins there. I think it would also help if they shut up about Killzone 2 until they're ready to release it. Jeez we've been hearing about that for 3 years since it was announced and it doesn't look half as good as Resident Evil 5 or Resistance 2. Look, either way you go, you'll get a great machine, Sony's got Blu Ray, and once they lose that crappy packaging and get some cool collectible swag, I'll make the move, but that wasn't a selling feature for me, merely an added bonus. In terms of games, for the most part buying a PS3 is an investment in what will likely be a bright future, even if the present is a little sparse on quality PS3-only fare. It took a few years for the PS2 to really show what it could do though, the same thing goes here. For now though, Microsoft has the edge in snagging exclusive properties.

Ubisoft Premieres Trailers for FAR CRY 2 & More! - Jun 01, 2008 - 12:50pm
Tom Clancy doesn't even have control over his name anymore, Ubi bought it. I guess that's why Sam Raimi wants to direct a Jack Ryan trilogy with a younger Jack Ryan set in the modern era. Yawn. I bet he'll leave out all of the good stuff from Clancy's books too. I cannot wait for Prince of Persia, but I'm anxious to hear more about the Beyond Good and Evil follow up. Far Cry? Meh. Looks pretty generic.

Singer Shirley Manson Joins SARAH CONNOR - Jun 01, 2008 - 12:46pm
Nice, Garbage's music was never substantial, but she had a lot of presence. Not to mention she's lovely, red headed and Scottish. I loved the first season of the show. It had more going for it than the last film, and hopefully the new film trilogy will follow suit. I'm so glad it's coming back for another season. Battlestar, Torchwood and Doctor Who will be in good company, since there's so little in the way of good sci fi anymore, and none to speak of on network TV.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Spidey Confusion, Mandrake Mistakes & Office Robots - Jun 01, 2008 - 12:40pm
Hanso, your powers of observation are keen as the edge on a Hanso katana. In all seriousness, I usually don't get that fired up until people are insulting about the fact that they disagree with me. Differing opinions are fine, but once "asshat" has been unleashed, the gloves come off, it's on. And anyone who mentions the Spider-Clone saga as a potential plot for future films should be sterilized in my opinion... To those of you who disagreed with me with dignity and respect, much thanks. Spiderman aside, is anyone else terrified that Ed Norton isn't doing any promotion for the Incredible Hulk? Is that a terrible sign or what? Something tells me we won't be seeing the definitive version of that film in the theatre. Maybe I'll just stay home and play Metal Gear Solid 4 that day, and see what the masses think after the weekend. At least Hellboy 2 and Dark Knight are sure bets.

Berkley, Evigan Join DONNIE DARKO Sequel - May 31, 2008 - 02:30pm
Aww come on American Psycho at least had Bill Shatner in it. That counts for something. That and Mila Kunis is nice eye candy. Okay so it sucked, but at least he's a legend and she's luscious, so far this film has a has-been, and no echo of the original film's genius.

Berkley, Evigan Join DONNIE DARKO Sequel - May 31, 2008 - 02:28pm
Well, I was reserving judgement until I saw a trailer, but this is officially dead on arrival. Berkley couldn't act her way out of a parking ticket, let alone carry a film like this. If Frank the Bunny doesn't make an appearance what's the point?

SAINTS ROW 2 Delayed to October 14 - May 31, 2008 - 02:23pm
You've got two yellow bordered parking spaces out front labeled "tenants only" in front of each safehouse where your cars are "supposed" to be saved if you park 'em there. I've made a point of getting one of each sports car painted to my taste and then spread out at all of my safehouses so I always have a slick ride when I load up my game. I've only had a few disappear, but it's a familiar glitch from the previous games where cars would mysteriously vanish from your garage. Kinda sucks when you can't find the damned things again. Comets and Infernuses in particular are hard to come by. As for the pigeons, yeah, I got them all, but it took forever and I have the guide which helped quite a bit. Some of the fracking things would be impossible to find otherwise. I want that 100 point achievement for 100 percent completion, so it was a necessary evil. My wife is a PHD student who is currently doing her comps and grading tests, so after work, I've got plenty of time to kill. There's squat on TV right now other than BSG once a week, so GTA has been my savior. 12 days to Metal Gear Solid 4 though...counting the days.

New International Poster for HELLBOY II - May 31, 2008 - 02:15pm
It looks like part of a poster to me. It's like they took the top quarter of a larger ensemble poster and turned it into a thumbnail. Not nearly as cool as the one-sheet they released a few weeks ago of Red by himself. Definitely not the best one I've seen for this film. Really I don't care, I love the character, I love the comics, I loved the first film, and this one looks to blow the previous one out of the water. Mike Mignola is the man, and Del Toro damned near walks on water in my book. Too bad he didn't direct Blade 3. Maybe Wesley would have been able to pay his taxes. Kinda' curious as to what's going to happen with this franchise with Del Toro residing in Middle Earth for the next 4 years. I really hope they don't hand it off to some choad like Fox did with X3. I think Selma Blair is beautiful in an unconventional way. Sure she's no Scarlett Johansen, but she's hardly the bottom of the barrel. She fits the character of Liz Sherman perfectly though. Has anybody seen who's playing Corrigan?
