The first part will be hitting theaters on August 15, 2008 while the remainder of the new season will debut later this fall on the Cartoon Network and TNT. Plot Summary: "Star Wars" takes on a dazzling new look in the first-ever animated feature from Lucasfilm Animation - "Star Wars: The Clone Wars." As the Clone Wars sweep through the galaxy, the heroic Jedi Knights struggle to maintain order and restore peace. More and more systems are falling prey to the forces of the dark side as the Galactic Republic slips further and further under the sway of the Separatists and their never-ending droid army. Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan learner Ahsoka Tano find themselves on a mission with far-reaching consequences, one that brings them face-to-face with crime lord Jabba the Hutt. But Count Dooku and his sinister agents, including the nefarious Asajj Ventress, will stop at nothing to ensure that Anakin and Ahsoka fail at their quest. Meanwhile, on the front lines of the Clone Wars, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Master Yoda lead the massive clone army in a valiant effort to resist the forces of the dark side.

It actually looks ok and interesting. There is a bit of "going back to the well" with the Clone Wars, but it can be entertaining.

I wonder what a continuation of Luke's post-ROTJ story (possible new trilogy) would be like in this animated form? My vote is "why the hell not"? Lucas has already done some wild stuff...

I'll be there in the cinema forking over cash to GL. He got me again.

Have to say I am Star Wars'ed out. I looked forward to the prequels for over 20 years and when they arrived they were so-so. The original trilogy was simple with a few twists and turns. Now it seems like the toy section of the Sears catalog. There is so much invested in newer creatures/robots, but the stories are lacking reasonable plot points or are delivered in a horrible way. This latest cash grab is between the 2nd and 3rd prequel. Although the battle scene looked good -escpecially the clone troops, I don't care for the versions of Dooku, Ben Kenobi, and this new bald chick were are supposed to accept. No thanks on this one George, I am full.

I'm not giving that greedy pig George Lucas another dime until I absolutely have to(SW Blu-Ray release).

Fuck George Lucas in the mouth.

I'll bring my nephew. Kids still love the Star Wars franchise.

It's funny, but do we think that repeated returns to Star Trek universe is milking it? Star Wars, like Star Trek, isn't just a single story any more. The Star Wars universe is part of our culture. I think we were irritated that Lucas strayed from the simple formula of the original films, and that he tried to use new technology to update the originals. While I agree with the first thought, I was ok with updating the originals. I think Lucas is a perfectionist and he couldn't help it. Besides, we don't mind when they try to update the original Star Trek with new special affects.

Li'lNell, it's not just about effects; most of us can look past that (although that one scene where Anakin is trying to "surf" on the back of some animal looked absolutely terrible) but it's the story and plot, the inconsistencies in mood and tone that killed the films. As for the animation, some of the movements are too fast to look realistic - yes, I know it's animated - but it's just not smooth enough.

I'll mention one tone element and leave it at that. End of AotC: everything is dire. Anakin has lost a limb, and here comes Yoda to save the day. Now a heroic swing is great - leave the film on a positive upbeat to an otherwise gloomy ending. But is jumping and bouncing around made everyone laugh. To me, that killed it. That was the wrong time for that much humor.

See ya Later Vader... or not.

It's about the execution of the story. It was poorly delivered and poorly told. But most people were amused by the bells and whistles (the effects) and didnt mind the crap story. Lucas did what was essentially a connect-the-dots to the fall of Anakin. Now that he's done such a suckass job he's letting others pad it backstories etc...
I don't mind the updating - most of it was pretty good (except the Jabba/solo scene in ANH). It's his tweaking of the original story that disturbs me.

Back to the fall for a second - I'm sorry, but his fall was so trite and oversimplified it's pathetic. One minute he's torn and conflicted and essentially still a good person and the next he's killing kids. Ridiculous.

To piggyback Irascibles comment about Anakin's fall:

What made it even worse was that Lucas completely invalidated the entire reasoning behind Anakin turning to the dark side when he force choked Padme nearly to death. She was his motivation and he just suddenly attacks her. Then we get the infamous NOOOOOO scene when he learns she is dead. It just doesn't work, George.

Also, maybe it's just me, but I would think just giving birth to twins should have given Padme the will to live. To explain her dying because she lost the will to live is completely asinine.

Lucas just can't craft a story. Empire was THEE best of the six because Lucas pretty much had nothing to do with it. He gave the outline to Kasdan and the rest is history. Look at Indy 4. 19 yr. wait for Lucas to find the right story or macguffin(spelling?). That story sucked. Which brins me back to my original point:

FUCK GEORGE LUCAS IN THE MOUTH.
