SDCC: Alicia Keys Set for Y:THE LAST MAN?

By: Jarrod Sarafin
Date: Monday, July 28, 2008
Source: UGO Movie Blog

It's been a few weeks since we had a chance to talk some Y: The Last Man, the last bit of rumor control concerning whether actor Shia LaBeouf would hook back with the film's director D.J Caruso (Disturbia, Eagle Eye) to lead the comic adaptation. But news on the project have slowed to a trickle since then.

Until now.

Our friends over at the UGO Movie Blog caught up with producer J.C Spinks (of Benderspink productions) on some juicy news regarding the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn's comic and they caught a possible casting announcement as well as the rumors on Shia LaBeouf and the property being turned into a trilogy.

To check out what role Alicia Keys may take and information on the other rumors, click here.

I've never gotten that feeling from Shia of awkward loss of innocence or sheepishness that Yorick seems to have; he always seems to be too energetic and assertive. And after Indy4, I'm less inclined to agree that Shia is a good choice. But, I think this is going to require star power, and for young male stars, LeBusted is a fairly hot item right now.

Based on looks and the book, I think I might choose Zoe Saldana over Alicia Keys. Keys looks a little too exotic, but less make-up might help that. I don't see Keys kicking tons of ass. Zoe at least has a little action movie under her sash.

I want to do the no pants dance with Alicia Keys! and Zoe Saldana! at the same time!

Alicia Keys has a little action movie under her sash, it's called "Smokin Aces".

Yikes, I'm down with either one doing the no pants dance, though I'm leaning toward Zoe Saldana.

Zoe could use a little more up top, but she is a little hotty.
As for Keys, I would only kick her out of bed for eating crackers cause there's more room on the floor.

I take it, based on the previous comments here, that this character that Keys may be playing is of dark skin. I'm not familiar with the comic, but I like the premise and would enjoy seeing it done well.

Off subject here. Can anybody tell me where to send a scoop that I have? I've tried the contact us link and that doesn't yield any response.

I would go for Zoe over Alicia. Especially if she's got the Uhura earpiece in. Alicia Keys just seems a bit attitudinal for me. Both pretty hot, though. Smokin' Aces was the bomb, son! I just finished it this weekend and it kicked ass!

Yes cp'n, to be direct, she is "black" (of an African hertiage, for you delicate ones) and with a medium-dark complexion. Or at least, much like Jessica Rabbit is bad, she is drawn that way. Alicia to me is too in-between to elicit the same tensions that this generation still has. And while the racial issue isn't crucial over the long haul of the story, Alicia definitely looks too delicate to be one bad ass secret agent. That's not to say she couldn't do it, but sometimes expectations can undermine performances. But then, I've not seen Smokin Aces so maybe I should check that out... still, between the two, there already seems to be quite a bias here.

I thought the address for scoops was... scoops@mania.com or maybe it's just scoop. I have another personal address, if the other(s) don't work for ya, send me a message and I'll pass it along.
