From the Astro Boy Panel at SDCC:
Astro Boy producer Maryann Garger confirmed that no one is ever allowed to produce a genre film again without a cameo from Samuel L. Jackson.
Jackson will appear in a brief voice-over role in the film--based on the popular Japanese manga--though Granger did not specify the part he would play. "He's a huge fan of Astro Boy and wanted very much to be a part of the project," she said. "Of course we were happy to have him. Sam Jackson really is the coolest guy on the planet."
Actor Kristen Bell and director David Bowers discussed Bell's character Cora in the upcoming 3D movie version of Astro Boy at the San Diego Comic Con this morning. The character has not appeared in previous incarnations of the property. "I initially saw Astro Boy as a little bit like Oliver Twist: this child on his own in a hostile society," Bowers said. "In that way, Cora is kind of like the Artful Dodger. "
"She doesn't always trust Astro Boy because he's a robot, not a flesh-and-blood child the way he presented himself," Bell added. "But she ultimately finds herself on his side." Astro Boy is due for release this October.
Astro Boy will hit theaters October 23, 2009.
I know I'm projecting my own feelings for this project but this looks like a big loser to me. I was never into this
Maybe we should just list the genre films SLJ isn't in, the list may be shorter
