It seems we've had our annual Sin City 2 story out of SDCC courtesy of original director Robert Rodriguez. Ever since he released the first film back in 2005, we've had no shortage of comments about how he and co-director Frank Miller are developing a follow-up. Here's the latest bit from the helmer, who suggests that Miller has already scripted out the project to be called Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, based on Miller's storyline by the same name. We know that Mickey Rourke's Marv and Jessica Alba's Nancy were featured in that comic but it's too early to reveal any casting information.

Rodriguez also announced in Hall H that the sequel would feature two new stories set within the confines of Sin City, one of them titled The Long Bad Night and that shooting could begin later this year.

The director updated his other projects as well by saying he was planning two sequels for Machete, one a full feature film while the third would be only in trailer form like his original Grindhouse segment. The sequel would be called Machete Kills while the third faux trailer would be titled Machete Kills Again...In Space!. The director announced there would be plenty of babes and lightsaber-like battles in the latter film. Danny Trejo is set to return in the title role.

And last but certainly not least..Robert Rodriguez has officially announced his plans to bring Heavy Metal back into theaters by way of a new anthology. The magazine's owner Kevin Eastman is also on board as producer. Here's the statement from the director.

I recently acquired the rights to Heavy Metal to make a large-scale media project and an animated film. I've always been a fan of Heavy Metal and Heavy Metal magazine.

I think one of the ideas I always believed in, is international artists coming together to show their best work. And when I ask other fans what they think, they all want to work on it. So I thought it would be really cool if everyone got the chance.

So what I'm doing with this website is having you submit ideas for stories, characters, or worlds that we can use in these projects or in the animated film. In any which way you can put together: written out, drawn, maybe even shot. You know, the more you can do to get the idea across, the better because I'd really like to make this a collaborative effort.

Some of the stories we're working on already, but I'm leaving a slot open for the audience who has been so good to Heavy Metal and who has always believed in Heavy Metal and what it could be. And i think it would be great if we all participated together and made this the best version of Heavy Metal that ever existed.

So I hope you can join us for...Heavy Metal.

Thanks to Calibur454 for the submission.

I am surprised that Robert managed to snag heavy metal- I guess the other version fell through in a bad way. Glad to see Sin City 2 gets some moviement

I recently watched Heavy Metal for the first time about a year ago and while it was kinda, the animation is extremely dated. I'd be interested in seeing what they could do now.

I thought David Fincher was behind the Heavy Metal reboot and Rodriguez was just just directing a segment...

True the animation on the original was badly dated, but it's still amazingly imaginative, it's just as shame they didn't finish all the segments...

Some of them looked amazing, very much like an adult Fantasia!

Anybody else get the feeling that Sin City has lost some steam in the popularity department?  I'll go see another movie, but I doubt if many other people would.  Seems like they lost their momentum and squandered their moment.  I hope I'm wrong.

Good news about Heavy Metal. Last I read on that project was that it was cancelled. It was being called "too risque" by the studio. Kind of stupid since the original came out in 1981; a time when it certainly would have been risque. Yet it still got made and released. I'm eager to see a new anthology.

SarcasticCaveman: Yes, I think so too. I wasn't really interested in the first movie, though. I could care less if they made a sequel.
