For obvious reasons, young adult fiction is all the rage when it comes to grabbing ideas for TV pilots and the CW has made an interesting if not entirely unexpected move. Originally the network was looking to deal with a spinoff from the popular Vampire Diaries series by having series co-creator Kevin WIlliamson focus on that as well. That's proving to be a bit daunting with all he's doing on that series, Deadline Hollywood is reporting, and they've instead got him coming on board another project instead to serve in a different role while keeping the companion series on the backburner.
The new series which has gotten a green light for a pilot is called Secret Circle and is based off of the novel series by L.J. Smith. Williamson is taking on the role of exec producer and is working on the script for it.
Plot Summary: The circle's power has lured her home. Forced to move from sunny California to gloomy New England, Cassie longs for her old life. Even so, she feels a strange kinship to a terrifying group of teens who seem to rule her school. Initiated into the coven of witches that's controlled New Salem for hundreds of years, she's drawn into the Secret Circle, a thrill that's both intoxicating and deadly. But when she falls for the mysterious and intriguing Adam, Cassie must choose whether to resist temptation or risk dark forces to get what she wants—even if it means that one wrong move could ultimately destroy her.
