ScreenwriterDavid Self is set to dive into the undersea kingdom of Sub-Marineraccording to today's HollywoodReporter. The trade magazine reports that Self has signed a seven-figuredeal to write and executive produce a movie based on Marvel's aquatic king forUniversal Pictures.
"I'm sopsyched to do this project. I'm a scuba diver and my dad's a marine biologist,so this is right down my alley," Self said to The Reporter."This is not going to be like any comic book movie you've ever seen. Itwill not be a men-in-tights movie. We're going for a hard sci-fi feel."
Marvel Studiospresident Avi Arad is producing with Kevin Misher's studio-based Misher Films.
"David is ahigh-quality writer who happens to be a Marvel geek," Arad told TheReporter. "In addition to that, he's a diver and shares a love for theundersea world, which is very important in this particular case. Add all ofthose things together and you've got the perfect person to bring this characterto life."
Sub-Marinermarks Self's second major comic book adaptation. He also penned the script for Roadto Perdition, which is due out later this year.
