SERENITY long script on EBAY

By Karl Schneider     July 04, 2006
Source: Serentiystuff

Serenitystuff.com has posted an article regarding an earlier and longer script for SERENITY.

They write, "I have just spent the afternoon reading an early draft of Serenity. A longer one. With some pretty big changes."

"I do not know if this is the original "Kitchen Sink" version Joss has spoken of, the first draft where he threw everything in, the one that had to be whittled down to fit into a) two hours, b) 40 million dollars, and c) Joss' dream of a great Serenity movie. I do know this one is 190 pages long and comes from a reliable source who's now offering copies on eBay."

"Note: This is Joss' work, but it is not the final version he filmed, directed, and edited together. That final version, the one we've seen up on the screen, is the version he's proud of. I may not be doing him or you any favors by telling you about his early ideas. But there is a lot of great stuff here that Browncoats would love to know about, and some bittersweet choices that, at this point, hadn't been made yet."

You can view the full review of the script here.

I don't suppose there will ever be another movie, but I loved the show. I always made fun of the whining brown coats until I watched Serenity. Then I bought the series DVD and I take back everything I said. Love it.

Serenity bombed in theaters. There will not be another one.

I have to respectfully disagree with everything browbeat said. The show was boring and the movie was decent at best.

"Serenity bombed in theaters. There will not be another one." Actually, Cold, Serenity's production budget was about $39 million, which is nearly what it took in at the box office worldwide...about $39 million. So, with stellar DVD sales, stranger things could happen.

Serenity was hailed as the "new Star Wars", and was predicted to be a massive blockbuster. It fell flat. www.worldwideboxoffice.com has Serenity's box office gross at $25.3 million- not quite "about $39 million"- until you add in the foriegn numbers. A mediocre-grossing movie makes back the money domestically. Joss Whedon had two tries with the same idea- and both failed. Do you really think Universal will fund a third attempt on a failed idea?

Making your production budget back has given us sequels before. Also, "Serenity" was NEVER hailed as "the new Star Wars". I'm a huge Firefly and Serenity fan. I read practically every article available on the web and in print...this movie was never hailed as the new Star Wars. My point is this: The movie made its money back...and with strong DVD sales we may see some sort of sequel. It might not be released in the theaters, but like I said, stranger things have happened. PS--"and was predicted to be a massive blockbuster." Uh, no...this movie was NEVER touted as a blockbuster. Sorry.

As much as I would like to see another Serenity movie, it will have to wait until Joss is done with Wonder Woman which is eating up all his time right now. He did mention that a sequel is not out of the realm of possibilities.

I must say I did hear it hailed as the next star wars. I agree, it was better than the prequals, everyone. These are some of the best characters I've ever seen in anything. Now putting all that aside, the characters in Firefly were a complete rip-off of a different sci-fi show. It's almost rediculous, but Firefly got it so much better. Andromeda Firefly Character Hunt Mal Captain Beka Zoe and Wash Tough chick &Pilot Tyr Jayne Kick ass guy roll Harper Kaylee Mr./Miss Fix-it Rev Bem Shepherd Book Moral character Trance River Mystery girl Rommie Inara Hotty
