Director Alex Proyas (Dark City, I, Robot) is well underway into his next sci-fi thriller Knowing and judging from the set photos that have popped up online courtesy of a scooper at CS, there seems to be an explosive situation involving Nic Cage's character. To check out the first set pics for the sci-fi film, click here. The film will star Nicolas Cage and Rose Byrne. Proyas is leading the project, based on a screenplay that he wrote alongside Stuart Hazeldine, Ryne Douglas Pearson, Juliet Snowden, Stiles White and Richard Kelly.

Production is currently underway in Geelong, Australia.

Plot Summary: In 1958, as part of the dedication ceremony for a new elementary school, a group of students is asked to draw pictures to be stored in a time capsule. But one of the students, a mysterious girl who seems to hear whispered voices, fills her sheet of paper with rows of apparently random numbers instead.

Fast forward 50 years to the present: A new generation of students examines the contents of the time capsule and the girl's cryptic message ends up in the hands of young Caleb Myles. But it is Caleb's father, professor Ted Myles (Nicolas Cage), who makes the startling discovery that the encoded message predicts with pinpoint accuracy the dates, death tolls and coordinates of every major disaster of the past 50 years. As Ted further unravels the document's secrets, he realizes it foretells three additional events—the last of which hints at destruction on a global scale and seems to somehow involve Ted and his son.

When Ted's attempts to alert the authorities fall on deaf ears, he takes it upon himself to try to prevent more destruction from taking place.

This gripping supernatural thriller charts one man's faltering steps towards belief in the ultimate order of the universe even as he finds himself surrounded by mounting chaos. With the reluctant help of Diana Whelan (Rose Byrne) and Abby, the daughter and granddaughter of the now-deceased author of the cryptic prophecies, Ted's increasingly desperate efforts take him on a heart-pounding race against time until he finds himself facing the ultimate disaster—and the ultimate sacrifice.

Knowing will hit theaters March 20, 2009.

Wow, so they came up with National Tresure: The Numbered Document. I didn't know they were doing a third one.

This does sound interesting. And I'm up for anything Proyas does. And yes, Rose Byrne is hot.

Haven't movies taught us anything yet? If someone starts going on about aliens, ghosts, Magic places, god or Satan, we should all pay attention and believe. Actually I had a friend that did too much acid in high school and thought he was Jesus, so he was commited for two weeks...lol.....I guess it was good not to believe him....but maybe that what Jesus did. Got his hands on some bad payotee and tripped his face off and saw god....and so many people are following some dudes killer cacti ride...priceless.

oh boy...here they come. A bunch of movie titles of a single verb ending in "-ing." First it was "The Happening," now "Knowing." Let's just get them all out there: "The Thinking," "The Guessing," "The Jerking," "The What If-ing," "The Shining" (whoops already been done). never mind...

Dark City still is one of the best sci-fi flicks I've ever seen. The premise behind it was for once, something original.

As for Nic Cage, he's starting to get long in the tooth...if you throw out National Treasure, we're looking at Next, The Wicker Man, and Ghost Rider as his recent claims to fame....even his new assassin flick looks so so...he should make The WereWolf Women of the SS. At least we know he'd be over the top on purpose
