Seth Rogen has briefly updated the situation on THE GREEN HORNET, reports MTV. While talking to the site, he basically says that there will be two versions of this upcoming installment of the comic hero. One take is more comedic in script while the other take is more serious. According to Rogen, they haven't decided which version they will settle for in the end. As a side note, the production for this film won't start until the WGA is settled according to previous reports with the actor. Rogen will next be starring in Kevin Smith's ZACK AND MIRI MAKE A PORNO. If you'd like to read how much anxiety Kevin Smith felt while trying to score Rogen for his project, check out his blog.

Here's what Rogen had to say on the Hornet project to MTV;

"Just a few weeks ago, [co-writer Evan Goldberg and I] laid out our outline for the movie to the studio, and before the phone call, Evan and I were like, 'This is not like any superhero movie — they might just hate that,' " Rogen recalled. " 'It's not using any of the normal superhero movie formats. It's not an origin story. It's more like a regular action movie.' [But] they really liked it and told us to go for it."

2. Hit the Gym and quit eating dem donuts, fata$$.
3. Don't make it a comedy or I will kill you!
4. Get surgery to uncross dem eyes! I mean God D***!

Jealousy reaks it's ugly head once again. Every time a funny comedian comes out and stars in couple of movies he starts getting bashed. Good job not a fan way to keep that proud tradition rolling along.
Rogen is funny as hell, I can barely remember the Green Hornet show,(I remember the part from Dragon the Bruce Lee story,) and I was raised by a TV, as log as it's interesting I'll see it.

...and a craptacular guest cameo by Jack Black as Green Lantern. Does anything with Green in front of it mean "ok to f*** with and screw up??" How about Will Ferrell as Green Arrow while your at it??? UGH again.

I can't think of one Green Hornet storyline from the past. I think it's ok to mess with this one. As long as it's not a Green Lantern movie being played by Shack.

I think you meant Shaq.

Rogen is awesome, who cares if they make the Green Hornet a comedy? It's not like he's the most remembered franchise. They can do whatever they want with Green Hornet and The Lone Ranger.
Besides, if they go the action route it may still be good. I've enjoyed all Rogen films so far so I'll wait until a trailer to pass more judgement.
On a side note, the Green Lantern movie Jack Black could work very well if they just didn't call it Green Lantern. Black doing comedy with a powerful ring a la Jim Carrey in the Mask would be funny.

"Who cares if they make 'The Green Hornet' a comedy?"

I DO.

I grew up with "The Hornet", and while everyone was dealing with the goofy "Batman", "The Hornet" was cool.

It was part of Bruce Lee's rich heritage on screen, not something forgettable (sp) or humorous.

It was the one time a minority was treated as a partner to a hero (other than Tonto), not a sidekick or comedy relief. Kato was a LOT cooler than The Hornet is many respects, and with the introduction of "Kung Fu" to the American audience, I think it was a groundbreaking show on many levels.

If Rogen makes it a comedy, it will debase the history and credibility of the original show.

well I'm not sure how a comedy will debase the history and credibility of the original show matters since the Hornet is based on a radio character if I'm not mistaken, so the show shouldn't matter. the source would be the original radio Hornet. Grant it, I doubt that was a comedy but I get what you are saying.
Turning the movie into a comedy also doesn't mean that the Kato character won't be treated as partner but instead a sidekick. Like I said we need to see a trailer first.
An action comedy would work well instead of straight action. I don't think Rogen is going for campy or goofy a la 60's Batman with his comedic take on it. Plus, if they have input from Apatow, I don't see how making the film into a comedy or action comedy be a problem. Rogen is hot right now and the Apatow crew even hotter, since they are friends I'm sure he might get some type of input from him or others.
Plus, The Hornet show lasted like 3 years in the late 60s, so the people that grew up on that are like 45-50 years old now. I'm sure they are trying to bring in a younger demographic who isn't aware of the show or the character thus earnign more $$. The people that still remember the show will go watch it no matter so they gotta try to attract more viewers.
Like I said, The Green Hornet isn't an icon so a different take on him isn't a big deal, in my opinion at least.

If you’re that damn old to even remember watching the Green Hornet you'll remember the Hornet did nothing Kato did everything. The Hornet fighting scenes were comedic enough. This show was a joke. One more thing Kung Fu the show was ground breaking it showed how Hollywood would rather show a white man play a Chinese man other then the person who created the show which was Bruce Lee. Now that’s a shame

I've enjoyed reruns of the 60s Green Hornet as a kid and would prefer a more serious movie. But if they go alittle more comedic it would be great to have Stephen Cho direct it and play Kato. His movies are incredibly inventive, funny and with a nice tone of drama. His physical humor would go perfect with Seth Rogen's clever dialogue.
Here is the trailer for his next film, a sc-fi comedy:

I am actually looking forward to seeing what Rogan can do with this. I didn't grow up with the Green Hornet, but I have respect for his place in the culture. I think Rogan will, too. I imagine this will be primarily an action movie, with humorous moments. Few action movies these days don't have humor. It's just how they are made now. Also, the most recent pic I've seen of Rogan, he doesn't look in bad shape at all. I think they really exaggerate his schlumpiness for his characters. I'm sure he's been hitting the gym for a few months now, and the character won't be a schmuck. So I'm sure he'll be fine.
