The Review!
Sexy Fighter Manami is further proof that schoolgirls should not be left alone at school after hours.

For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. This is also the only language available on this release as no English language version was made for it. The Japanese track is a pretty straightforward stereo mix that that's basically a full sounding piece. Dialogue is decent throughout but it is off pretty much throughout the entire program but it doesn't seem like it's an authoring issue so much as a poorly dubbed/lip flap issue.

Originally released a few years back, the transfer for this series is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. The animation for the show is much more cartoonish than normal but it's full animated and rather fluid at times. It's not a bad transfer but it's one where the actual enjoyment of it will stem from how you feel about the animation. In some ways it may look cheap but it again comes back to the more cartoonish style it has but it does keep to the anime style better than some other recent shows.

One of the weakest of the covers from a company that's certainly managed to put out some great looking material is this one with a shot of Manami doing an air kick while a shot of her mostly naked laying down is set against a blurred backdrop of nothingness. The designs just aren't all that appealing in general and it just seems to be missing something to give it a bit more allure and sell it as more than it is. The back cover goes hardcore with Manami being taken every which way and without anything left to the imagination in some better looking designs. The bottom portion has the limited information available regarding the technical aspect and really overplays the running time. No insert is included in this release.

The menu layout is similar to other releases from this studio in that the background is a simple wash of colored light waving about while the foreground has the shot of Manami from the front cover doing the kick, sans panties though, while the basic menu selections are lined along the left side. Access times are nice and fast and there's little here beyond the show and a few trailers. Since there are no real selections for language other than turning the subtitles on, the discs defaults mirror our players' defaults.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
Oh, you silly schoolgirls, when will you learn? Staying after school all alone will never lead to anything but you being ravished either by nasty boys, good boys who are really nasty boys, teachers or demons. Sexy Fighter Manami has our heroine, an apparently fairly stupid but cute girl, become the latest in a series of young women who simply try to get an education but learn things that are, har har, outside the curriculum.

We're introduced to Manami as she's trying her best after school to learn from her books, which she laments aren't animation books, while her friends are off having fun at karaoke. She goes on about how she's not that good at math or writing which means it's hard to plan your future when you can't even get your basics down right. Such honesty is rare in one so young! While she's trying to hit the books something in the room moves once, twice and then when she realizes something really is moving she's hit with a massive burst of energy power that flows throughout her body.

To her surprise but not horror or shock, a humanoid form appears before her that's basically a tall muscular well built male but with any genitalia or hair. And he's purple. And he's come to get the energy from her since he's basically a big giant energy conductor, or so he claims. Being the idiot she is, she doesn't quite get all of this but she realizes she's in trouble when he talks about being able to control parts of himself that aren't attached and he forms a number of six inch long protrusions with faces on them that head over to her now naked form and start going to town. And it just goes into one long sex scene from there where she's begging him to stop over and over until she realizes she's really enjoying it and that she's gaining the upper hand in controlling the situation. Before you know it, you've had a twenty minute long animated sex scene and it's time to cue the curtains and credits.

In Summary:
With the brighter and less animated nature of the show along with the more cartoonish feel of the designs for Manami, never mind the big purple guy who we'll just call Barney, this isn't one of the easiest shows to get into in comparison to the way so many other shows work to keep a semblance of real looking designs. Manami with her dayglo magenta hair doesn't help either and the Barney guy just doesn't have what it takes to be a villain. Add in the way the audio is either off via technical or other reasons and it's just plain goofy.
