What They Say
A serial rape plagues a suburb. People rumor that this is a cause of the supernatural.
Akitoshi is a boy no different than any other student. One day, he spots Ai, a girl that he has never seen. However, everyone says that she's been here for a long time. Being curious, Akitoshi follows Ai after school but looses sight of her. Hurrying home, he hears a scream and follows it to find Mikage (a classmate) being violated by something out of this world!!
Noticing Akitoshi's presence, the strange creature attacks him. Suddenly, a warrior appears in front of Akitoshi and fights off the foe! Who is this warrior!? What is happening to this city!? What is this warrior fighting for!?
During one person's life, it is said that there are many who can change your destiny. I did not believe that until now.The Review!
The title really says it all as we get the latest adult anime title about magical girls that involves sexiness that can be fully exploited.Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. Unfortunately, this is also the only language track on there as no dub was produced for the release. The Japanese track is a decent sounding stereo mix that doesn't have a whole lot of activity going on in terms of directionality but does have a nice full sounding effect overall. Dialogue is clean and clear throughout and we had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.Video:
Originally released in 2003, the transfer for this OVA is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. The transfer for this release overall looks really good but there are a few problem spots throughout it. The most noticeable one is during a classroom scene with the teacher in red; during one panning sequence over her, all of the red colors start rolling along with the camera. I've seen this effect once or twice before but I have no idea what it's called. During the rest of the episode, there's some occasional aliasing where the lines start losing their smoothness and turn jagged. Otherwise, this look quite good overall which is essentially the other twenty-eight minutes of the program. Colors look good and maintain a solid feel even during the dark blacks and blues, cross coloration is pretty much a non-issue and the show is presented with the original opening and ending. At the end of it, a translated section of credits rolls as well.Packaging:
This is a good looking release that eliminates the few quibbles I had with their previous releases. The cover art features a shot of the lead magical girl with the pentagram behind her and a white background that helps the dark character art stand out all the more. The layout and design overall are neat and gives it a good dark feel while not being terribly exploitive. The back cover takes care of that by providing sixteen shots from the show and plenty of nudity and tentacle action. The summary is fairly short but well done while the bottom half is a much cleaned up and nicely laid out technical section and production information piece. No insert is included with this release.Menu:
The main layout utilizes the artwork from the cover in a zoomed in and much brighter manner so that her face is the center. Selections are lined along the left and are quick and easy to navigate while a brief loop of music plays along to the menu. Access times are nice and fast and the layout very simple to navigate as there isn't much here beside the show and the trailers.Extras:
The only included extra is a slideshow of artwork from the show.Content:

Sexy Magical Girl Ai, a five part OVA series, is something that I haven't seen much of in the last year or so in that it brings back the tentacle goodness of days long gone while avoiding much of what a lot of adult anime has become these days. There's no bodily fluids being tossed around here unless it's blood after something violent is done and that's a welcome change.
The story revolves around a young woman named Ai but it's told mostly from the perspective of Akitoshi. He's an everyday student at the local school who is the only one that feels weird when he sees a girl named Ai in his class that he's never seen before but everyone else accepts as if she's been there for ages. This all comes after he had a wild dream the night before about two classmates that were being swallowed up by this huge gelatinous brown blob with tentacles that was then attacked by Ai in a rather sexy outfit and wielding a pole arm of some sort. He can't shake the feeling in the classroom that she shouldn't be there so he follows her after school lets out.
With a girl like Ai, you know her life isn't normal so it's not long before things happen around her that cause her to transform and do battle. Akitoshi lost sight of her and ran into one of his classmates being abused by the same tentacle creature from his dream but it plays out different as Ai arrives not long afterwards and attempts to save everyone while hacking away at the thing. The tentacle creature is nasty and has a definite taste for young women that it sucks into its insides and alters so that they're more a part of it than themselves afterwards.
Being a tentacle hentai show, that means the tentacles get more action than anything else and it does turn a fair bit violent a few times over, particularly during the dream sequence. The character designs for the show are very attractive though and that makes the tentacles all the easier to deal with. Ai gets a decent amount of screen time here but it's some of the other girls in the school, particularly the opening dream sequence, that really struck me as the attractive designs. The quality of the animation is up there as well with few repeated scenes or any of the other usual tricks used to extend a scene out. This is looking good and while the first episode teases the story a bit it's enough to make you want to see more.In Summary:
The first of four new releases from JapanAnime, it's helped alleviate some issues I had with their first round of releases but some of the strange video issues in a couple of places make me wonder. The changes made to the cover where it removes the excess text and the removing the logo bug in the corner are both very positive things. The show itself looks to be fun and it feels more akin to the kind of hentai I used to see in the 90's but with a much slicker art style. With this release, I'm much more curious about their other titles now but I do wish that they'd provide dubs for the shows.
