What They Say
Sexy Sailor Soldiers Unite!

Nami Koishikawa's incredibly large breasts and curvaceous figure got her a lot of admirers, but she never really thought anything of it. Sure, she enjoyed wearing skimpy work uniforms that threatened to cause her breasts to pop out at any time, but every girl likes to look sexy right? However those luscious curves get her into real trouble late one night when Nami rushes to the aid of an injured woman behind the restaurant where she works. The woman hands her a strange looking pendant and begs her to "take her place".

Nami curiously examines the pendant and it transforms her into a Sexy Sailor Soldier! Talk about the ultimate skimpy uniform! And that's not the only thing that's changed. Nami's pheromone levels have skyrocketed and it's driving every sex demon on the planet crazy with desire. She better hope the other Sailor Soldiers find her fast, or else the hordes of demons chasing her are going to be ravaging her until the end of time!

The Review!
When she ends up with the Eye of Lust, Nami finds herself now the center of a lot of demonic attention.

Audio:
For our primary viewing session, we listened to this show in its original language of Japanese. The stereo mix for the show isn't much to talk about which isn't a surprise since most adult shows tend to be very basic. The show is very much focused on a center channel presentation with only some of the music pieces really showing and amount of full feeling during the course of the show. Even though it's fairly limited, it does sound good and it gets everything across cleanly and clearly. We sampled both language tracks and had no problems with dropouts or distortions during regular playback.

Video:
Originally released to video in 2005, the transfer for this OVA is presented in its original full frame aspect ratio. With a lot of bold colors and little in the way of shading, this is a very vibrant piece that's appealing to the eye. There's a decent amount of detail in things like the background and other areas, but the character designs are kept relatively simple overall and not too detailed which gives them a more comic book feel at times. The colors maintain a very solid feel but the transfer has some minor cross coloration issues showing up from time to time which is mildly distracting. Aliasing is thankfully very minimal though and backgrounds maintain a good solid feel from the bright sky blues to the dark night time skies.

Packaging:
Going with a large ensemble shot of all the girls in their transformed modes and in different sizes, the main thing you can take away with this cover is of course their massive breasts and very simple and clean designs. It's got the sentai feeling to it with the logo and the way each of them has a different colored uniform, but overall it's a simple and decent cover that at least lets you get an accurate idea of what the designs in the shows are like. The back cover is amusing as it provides an upskirt view of Nami and her sizeable posterior but it also has a few screenshots from the show itself. A lot of the space is given over to the two paragraph summary of the premise and the rest with the discs features and a good looking technical grid along the bottom.

Menu:
The main menu is a cute piece that has a good full cast shot illustration of the girls in their sailor outfits with the backdrop of the city as well as one of the demons as a bit of music plays along. The triple S logo keeps the navigation section together which is quick and easy to use and problem free for navigating. The layout is simple overall but it's effect, though unfortunately the disc did not read our players language presets correctly since it lists the subtitles for the Japanese language track as Japanese.

Extras:
The only included extra is a series of stills from the show in an art gallery.

Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
It's not too often that Critical Mass dips into the single episode realm but they've done so for this show and at least it's the kind of thing where you know the show will at least look pretty good. Mixing in maids and magical girls for a quick turn of fun, the show is big breasted fluff that looks great but is about as filling as the meals the girls probably serve.

The show is centered around a relative airhead named Nami who works in a restaurant so she has the requisite uniform that's appealing looking. She's entirely human but of that particular section that's comprised of massive breasted women, the kind that would be crying out in pain from back problems if they actually walked around, which makes it pretty good that they seem to be mostly on their backs in this series. She's not the best waitress around and she often gets into problems, such as we see right from the start where he top pops off while serving a parfait, giving the customer a very different treat.

Things change for her though when she's out taking the trash outside later on and a mysterious woman in a very skimpy outfit arrives out of breath and seemingly dying. She passes on a small object that look like a giant eyeball in a handheld case before she simply disappears, asking Nami to take on the fight. Nami ends up discovering that by focusing on certain emotions, the eyeball responds and attaches itself to her neck and then transforming her outfit into that of a scantily clad mixture of super-hero and schoolgirl maid. This happens at the worst of times though, such as when she's already being groped on the train, and it only serves to turn the men into hyper sexed creatures who try to take advantage of her without any hesitation.

Before you know it, demons are flocking towards Nami as she discovers that the item is actually called the Eye of Lust and it draws demons to her so she can eliminate them. She doesn't handle all of this well and before she really realizes what's going on, a demon has her in mid air with its tentacles over the city and ravages her. But Nami isn't the only one with this kind of device and there are others, massively breasted, that come into play to try and help out because there are just way too many demons for one girl to handle. There's a good deal of setup to things here to make this into a larger and longer series, but it's also fairly complete in telling what it wants to and giving us a couple of sex scenes and several bits of sexual comedy and antics to have us laughing.

Though I'm definitely not in the camp that cares for the large breasted character designs, the show has a good look to it overall with bright clear animation, some decent looking designs otherwise and has a good helping of sex and variety to it as well as general action. There's a good sized cast to it though we only get to see a few of them towards the end and some of the secondary characters are fairly amusing, especially Nami's brother. The show simply sets out to have fun, bring in a little bit of demon fun, and entertain its audience without resorting to scatological stuff thankfully. That sort of helps it to rank above other stuff in my mind but this is still a hard sell title since it is just one episode.

In Summary:
Sexy Sailor Soldiers is a harmless show that delves into the realm of demons and tentacles, something we don't see all too often these days as many of the series out there tend to focus on more real world storylines and some rather depraved concepts. With its slicker and glossier looking animation, this is like an updated version of something we'd see back in the nineties but with a few obvious changes for what works for today's Japanese audience. Some of it works, some of it doesn't, but that's for me and my tastes which are a bit stricter when it comes to adult material. It's certainly not a bad piece and a fun introduction to adult shows and maybe even for some couples.
