What an afternoon for wild rumors, both of which will be appearing in tomorrow's rumor column. The Linda Hamilton returning to Terminator was out of left field and now, we have a possible return to Lethal Weapon from original screenwriter Shane Black, knocking one out of right field. TrackingB.com is reporting that the man behind the characters has privately penned a spec script for Lethal Weapon 5 and has approached producer Joel Silver on returning.

The site also reports that Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are up for returning to their roles as well.

This rumor, while wild, could be true as Black wasn't pleased with the direction that Lethal Weapon 3 and 4 took with his characters. The fifth installment is reportedly focused on
homicidal Riggs (Mel Gibson) getting set to retire, but pulls Murtaugh (Danny Glover) out of retirement to solve one final case, before they both officially head off into the sunset.

I'll go see it. But I didn't think he was homicidal anymore.

For gawds sake let it die. Should have stopped with 3.

I say when Gibson becomes crazier than Riggs, then it's time to pack up and go home. If they made LW2 today then Riggs would join the Neo-nazis, or whatever they were and help them exterminate the Jews. Besides is Gibson even gonna still wanna work for Silver, him being Jewish and Gibbson being off his F***ing nut?

Well, he was really suicidal, not homicidal but I guess he was both. I would be very happy with another movie. I love the series. I like the humor that was mixed in with all the movies. The stories for the 3rd and 4th were a little weak, but they were a lot of fun to watch. after Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang, Shane Black is the shit. That move was awesome.

Agree with Whiskey 100%. Also loved Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
Although the last two weren't as good as the first two it would be nice to see these two together again.

Riggs did soften up quite a bit once Russo's character was introduced. And he definitely was suicidal originally, not homicidal. He was crazy over his first wife's death, shown perfectly in the scene in his trailer where he nearly blew his brains out. I'm sure the direction taken with him and Russo's character was what Black didn't like about the last two movies.

My only complaint (if you want to call it that) is that this is yet another sequel to an 80s action franchise. Is this the new fad in Hollywood now? What's next, Under Siege 3?

I'm down with it. I'm not too old for this shit.

Now I'll admit he was suicidal, but he was also homicidal.

Do you remember Glover asking him something like, "Have you ever met anyone you haven't killed," where Riggs responds, "I haven't killed you yet."

He was homicidal and suicidal, hell he was just nuts. Hey Mo.

Hmmm, I was going to jump on and bash the idea of another one of these (3 and 4 'MEH'). With the return of the original screenwriter I will say I am slightly intrigued and curious where he would take these two characters now. The jury will remain out on this one, show me what ya got Shane.
