Shane Black In Talks For Iron Man 3?

The busy man has yet another option on his plate

Shane Black is definitely a busy man these days with his name coming up for a couple of projects to varying degrees, so seeing where he's going to settle fully is still rather up in the air. In recent weeks he's been attached to write the Death Note script, which is an adaptation of a Japanese comic which has seen both an anime and several live action films in its native country, all of which are available in the US as well through Warner Bros. On top of that, he's got the somewhat long gestating Doc Savage project over at Sony that they want to try and revive into a franchise.

Word from The Hollywood Reporter now though is that the folks at Marvel Studios have sat down with him to get his take on Iron Man 3 as they continue their search for a director after Jon Favreau exited the picture. As is widely know, Robert Downey Jr. has his say on the director as well and Marvel Studios continues to keep their options open while keeping their overall plans for the picture fairly secretive as the story direction is still pretty unclear. Black is definitely an interesting choice as he's written some high profile movies over the years, including the first Lethal Weapon movie back when he was just out of college.

And since he would be involved in the script, it would give him the chance to have Tony Stark say, "I'm too old for this shit."

Would Black work as a director for this feature?

But he's only directed one movie.  Of course, that was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which everyone raves about (haven't seen it myself.  It's on my Netflix queue.).  So I'm a little leary at this point.

Well seeing the grief Marvel gave Favreau and it's pretty widley known that they are totally penny pinching on how much they dish out it's not exactly like you'd have a crush of top flight director's lining up to work on the cheap.

Kiss Kiss Bang Bandg was a pretty good flick but IM3 is a different animal.  This is how a director builds their craft and Jon left a pretty good template to follow so it wouldn't be a bad choice.

he may havent directed much but his talent is in writing and that is where the strong point needs  to be for iron man 3

If Downey wants him they'll pay up since he's worked with him before.

I would get Neill Blomkamp to direct IM3, but that is just me.  As for Shane Black doing it I have my doubts.  He did a good job with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which is a pretty great movie, but as has been said before IM3 is totally different.

Downey will get whatever director he wants so the question is moot. I am still tripping that they are trying to remake Death Note - not much more you can do there, that is the problem with these hollywood types they always want to remake something that was already done well. For example "let the right one in" was a great movie but a year later they remake it here - just watch the original - a good movie is a good movie no matter what language it is in. Ditto for Girl with a Dragon Tattoo!

Yeah but it was Kiss Kiss bang Bang that got RDJ the job on Ironman so I think it makes sense, Shane Black knows action and he has a great template as you guys said. I think he will do great, I mean none of us thought Favreau could do it.. or at least he hadn't done anything to really compare to before.

These comment areas suck... did my last comment ever post?

Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is excellent and Black is one of the sharpest writers out there.  I'm all for this.
