Shane Black is definitely a busy man these days with his name coming up for a couple of projects to varying degrees, so seeing where he's going to settle fully is still rather up in the air. In recent weeks he's been attached to write the Death Note script, which is an adaptation of a Japanese comic which has seen both an anime and several live action films in its native country, all of which are available in the US as well through Warner Bros. On top of that, he's got the somewhat long gestating Doc Savage project over at Sony that they want to try and revive into a franchise.
Word from The Hollywood Reporter now though is that the folks at Marvel Studios have sat down with him to get his take on Iron Man 3 as they continue their search for a director after Jon Favreau exited the picture. As is widely know, Robert Downey Jr. has his say on the director as well and Marvel Studios continues to keep their options open while keeping their overall plans for the picture fairly secretive as the story direction is still pretty unclear. Black is definitely an interesting choice as he's written some high profile movies over the years, including the first Lethal Weapon movie back when he was just out of college.
And since he would be involved in the script, it would give him the chance to have Tony Stark say, "I'm too old for this shit."
Would Black work as a director for this feature?

But he's only directed one movie. Of course, that was Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, which everyone raves about (haven't seen it myself. It's on my Netflix queue.). So I'm a little leary at this point.
