Shannon Talks ZOD Casting

It's not often that an actor would describe being cast as a classic villain in a major upcoming comic tentpole as "rediculous" but that's Michael Shannon for you. Just two days after Warner Bros. Pictures confirmed the "Boardwalk Empire" star would be suiting up as General Zod in Zack Snyder's fast-tracking reboot, Man of Steel, the folks over at /Film caught up with the actor at the RiverRun International Film Festival.

One of the most obvious questions that comes to mind is how he felt about being cast in the production and going toe-to-toe against one of the most known superheroes of all-time.

"It's ridiculous!" said Shannon. "It just came out of nowhere. I'm talking to my agent and she goes, 'How about Superman?' 'What?' The idea that I would ever be in 'Superman'. 'Are you serious?'"

The actor also revealed that he performed a successful screen test opposite the next Supes, Henry Cavill, and described the actor's potential as the next Man of Steel with "I think this guy'll be alright."

All I can say is right on...I'm really hoping that Zacks version gets rid of the bad taste of the last supes movie...In any case, I am there to watch it just based on the casting alone...

I'll say it again... Shannon will bring something very unique to this role... this will be a TDK Joker scene stealing performance.

i hope ur right. I just keep picturing him as a redneck hick from 8 Mile and Bad Boys 2.

I like the idea of this but lets not forget that this is a reboot. Snyder may be doing the same thing with Zod that was done in the origional series. Having him and his cronies being put into the prison in the first installment and then bring him back for a second one. Remember the whole baby space travel segment??  Kinda of a nod to the origional series so to speak. I wouldn't put it past Zack to do something like this in order to keep another main villian a secret.

Even if this is not the case and Zod is the main villian I'll have to wait for a trailer to see how good it will be. I am optimistic about this one. :)

I have yet to see Micheal Shannon's work so for me...the jury is still out!

This guy doesn't have the voice for Zod. Hopefully they'll have him talk deeper for the movie.

ZOD? Why do we have to rehash the same superman villians over and over. Aren't there enough to try something new?
