Shawn Levy to direct "The Flash"

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) has signed on to direct the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures The Flash.  The news comes just two days after David Goyer (Batman Begins) revealed he was no longer writing or directing the adaptation, though he had apparently secretly left the film months ago.

The trade said that Levy has no intention of making the film a comedy, but will aim for a lighter spirited film than previous WB comic adaptations such as Batman Begins and Superman Returns.

Levy will oversee the writing of a new draft, and it is believed elements of Goyer's script will be used in the development process.

KJ's Take:  Make no mistake about it, this is a giant step down for this adaptation.  Going from the man who wrote Batman Begins to the guy who directed The Pink Panther is good for nothing.  He has no experience in a film of this type and his past work hardly shows any promise within the context of this comic adaptation.  Hopefully WB does a little better replacing Whedon on Wonder Woman.

That is awful. With Singer on Superman, Nolan on batman, Goyer on Flash, and Whedon on Wonder Woman it seemed as if Warners was on the right track. Talented filmmakers who understand the characters. This is a giant setback.

Nolan on batman was good, but Singer on Superman was a mistake. i wish Singer had stuck with Xmen and done justice to the last movie.

Singer ruined my interest in Superman. dont think i care if they even make another.

I really enjoyed Superman Returns. Almost as much as I did Batman Begins.

Forget Wonder Woman already...She is one of the weakest comic characters to ever be...Now if the wonder woman, invisible man, superman joke are adapted into the movie somehow than that would be cool...You guys know what joke I'm talking about, come on you know...Superman returns was a joke that was more rip off than originality and as far as the flash is concerned I think it's a good fit for the director who they now have connected to it, just as long as it is not family oriented but you know the studios, they will be going after the largest demographic as possable...

Just to go back to superman real quick...It cost over 300 million and that is with the advertising campain and there was absolutely no originality too it, sure Brian Singer added a few things to it but for the most part it was superman 1 rehashed...I would have to believe the studio screwed him because of the amount of money they put into it and allowed him no creativity what so ever... Just my two bits worth...

Wrong, dawntreader. Superman Returns clearly proves that Singer on Superman was a good move. Superman Returns was the best film of '06!

"there was absolutely no originality too it, sure Brian Singer added a few things to it but for the most part it was superman 1 rehashed..."

Yeah. Rehashed with a brand new plot and new characters and new twists.

Oh wait....IT WASN'T REHASHED.

Sorry, mlaforcer, but you're wrong there.

I dunno, I am not that worried.... I think a heavy handed, edgey flash just wouldn't work.... having a more lighthearted take might be the right direction to go in. It seemed to work for the Fantastic Four. It's ironic how everyone always wants dead serious stories about characters with unbelievable powers. the flash can be a really fun character, as long as this doesn't turn into a comedy, I'll stay optomistic.

NARPIN..Your obvioulsy an ass wadd who would not know the difference between a good movie and, your ass not to mention you must have never seen the oringinal because if you did you would know that superman returns was a blatant rip off from that one...Before posting try to invest some time into investingating before posting ingnorant statements..Ok mamas boy?

And to call it one of the best of 06 edifies your taste in movies...

You Know MADMANIC..I'm with you now that you bring up a good point...I think somewhere between lighthearted and just this side of edgier would be a good thing...

I enjoyed Superman Returns. But anyone who says it wasn't a rehash has never seen the original.

It was a remake in the same way that in the James Bond franchise, "A View to a Kill" was a rehash of "Goldfinger." New characters, a few new twists, but instead of destroying the gold supply... the bad guy is destroying microchips.

Superman is the same way. Luthor is the main villain and the plot revolves around a giant real estate scam. (Original Supes had a much more realistic scam though... honestly, whats it matter that you have all this land if it looks like one of those crystals you grow for a 2nd grade science fair project.) Like I said, good movie if you can get past the plot redux.

Back to Flash though... I can't say as I care one way or the other. I wouldn't get my hopes up on the flick, but I don't know that a Batman tone really goes with the Flash. My .02 dollars.
