Billy Baird and Geoff Johns penning 'Shazam!' script. Plus: Actress tweets 'Thor' tryout. 'Surrogates' director talks. 'El Superbeasto' redband trailer. 'Scott Pilgrim' hula madness! Through its cruelty you will know who it is. It is your Comics2Film 9.8.20!

Diora Baird Tweets THOR Tryout

In a pair of twitter postings, model-turned-actress Diora Baird told her followers that she's auditioned for a role in Marvel's 'Thor' movie.

On Monday she wrote, "Had an audition for the movie 'Thor' today. Character description was 'pretty, but sturdy with muscle'. Damn type casting."

It's hard to say exactly who that character may be but fans are expecting the Enchantress and Lady Sif to appear in the film, so we're banking on one of those. Baird, however, isn't divulging any details.

When asked by a follower about the audition she replied, "I cant say. I'll go to jail. For real. Had to sign my soul away."

If Baird lands the role she'll join actors Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston and director Kenneth Branagh when cameras start rolling next year.

Thanks to WISEGUY562 for the submission.

Michael Cera shreds in space for SCOTT PILGRIM

On his daily photo blog, 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' director Edgar Wright posted a new pair of photos. One of them is a nice behind-the-scenes shot of leading emo Michael Cera apparently doing some kind of levitating, face-melting guitar solo in front of a blue screen. No clue how it'll play out in the movie, but here's the pic.

SURROGATES Film Shuns Graphic Novel's Villain

Jonathan Mostow told MTV Splash Page that the film version of 'The Surrogates' will not include the villain from the graphic novel that inspired it.

If you've read the book, you know there's an enigmatic figured called Steeplejack who creates chaos by targeting the robotic surrogates of the title. The Bruce Willis character is tasked with stopping the killing spree, which has a direct affect on the humans controlling the surrogates.

"I can't give away too much about the movie, but [the villain] sort of an amalgamation of a couple of things," Mostow told MTV. "It was inspired by the Steeplejack character."

Mostow also said that he also went in different thematic directions  from the source material as well. Click through for more of his comments.

'Surrogates' opens September 25.

SCOTT PILGRIM Back Lot Bonus Blog

So, Michael Cera, star of 'Scott Pilgrim vs The World' may be a flying Eddie Van Halen on screen, but his real gift has never been seen off-screen until the latest video blog from the back lot of the film...

Geoff Johns, Bill Birch are the new SHAZAM Writers

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the long-suffering 'Shazam!' movie is regrouping and moving forward again, this time with some guidance of the biggest DC Comics guru on the planet: Geoff Johns.

Johns is co-writing the story for the film with actor-turned-screenwriter Bill Birch. It looks as if Birch will fly solo on the script itself.

Peter Segal, who has long been attached to the project as director is still on board as director and producer.

Birch is mostly known for playing bit parts on various TV series, but recently penned the script 'One Finger Salute' which Segal is also directing.

Frankly, we here at C2F think the Captain Marvel stories would make great fodder for a kinder, gentler, family-oriented superhero movie, so we're not sure why it's been so difficult to get it launched. Hopefully Johns' involvement will be the ticket to getting this right.

If I was Kenneth Branagh I'd have to give the gorgeous Miss Baird a personal, private audition on the casting couch. Seriously, she could definitely play an Asgardian woman because she's got the beauty and brawn.

I haven't seen anything about Scott Pilgrim that makes me want to go see the movie. The only reason for me to see this would be the director, but I don't know if I can get past having to watch Cera on the screen again.

It's good to see Johns on Shazam. He should be able to put a good story together. I've always liked the mythological ties in Shazam and the idea that Captain Marvel is really just a kid with these amazing powers. To make good DC movies writers, producers and directors just need to read a few Alex Ross books. Alex has produced the perfect takes on DC's top flight heroes.

No... keep the "model-turned-actress" types away from superhero movies.  They can't act.  I think one of the primary reasons superhero movies have enjoyed such a healthy run is the because studios are starting to take them seriously as movies.  They are hiring actual actors and directors for parts, instead of vacuous bimbos & douchebags that can't act their way out of a paper bag.  Seriously, back when Reb Brown was Captain America, could you imagine an actor of RDJ or Ed Norton's level being involved in a "kiddie" movie?  That was the attitude toward superhero movies at the time.  Now, you have Oscar-winning directors fighting for the chance to direct these movies.  Don't undo all that by casting no-talent faces for parts that require some acting ability.

Ok, after all this rant, I just realized, I've never actually seen anything this woman has done.  She may actually be able to act.  I don't know.  The odds are against it, but it's possible.  That doesn't invalidate the rant, though. It's just more of a general rant than against her in particular.

FFT, I haven't seen it, but she was in "My Best Friend's Girl."  Did a quick search on IMDB... I repeat I have not watched it...

Wiseguy 8/20/2009 8:32:40 AM

Sturdy with muscle? Baird must be trying out for Sif. I thought Biel would fit the role better. Just my guess

El Beasto doesn't look any better than the stuff we see on adult swim. I think that's whwere it belongs, I know I'm not paying to see it

Shazzam is tricky. It really isn't a dark character or at least it wasn't. Although DC has made him darker recently and since that's the flavor of the day I wouldn't be surprised if they go that route. I have high hopes for the character but I doubt they'll strike the right tune.

kimbroo 8/20/2009 8:55:29 AM

Umm how come I'm not seeing any news about Nolan putting the Prisoner flick aside and bumping up the next Batman flick?

SONYMANswallows 8/20/2009 9:41:53 AM

SHAZAM NEEDS TO BE DARK, a kid loses his family and abused by his uncle until he is given the powers.

Also dont do with Captain Marvel costumes. It looks dumb in modern day, marvel and Adam can brawl in the sky and on ground without ancient tights.

Bruce Willis for Captain Marvel.

wessmith1966 8/20/2009 9:58:59 AM

Bruce Willis for Captain Marvel...Really? I like Bruce, but Captain Marvel? No, don't see him in that role. Shazam doesn't need to be dark. One of the great things about Captain Marvel is his almost child-like view of the world...absolute rights and wrongs, etc. Sure, it's "in" right now to darken heroes for the new comic book generation, but maybe that's because of how dark the real world looks these days. Maybe we need a little light in the darkness.

HighFiveMan23 8/20/2009 10:09:57 AM

I agree that Captain Marvel should be kept light, he is just a child at heart afterall.  But I think Black Adam should be as dark as possible.

GEOFF JOHNS ON SHAZAM!!! DUDES...we have nothing to worry about...Do you guys read his stuff? and not just the recent stuff, he ROCKS the Justice Society!!! I'm officially in line openong night for Shazam if Johns is co-writing.

El Superbeasto looks like a super fun romp, and I like drawings of half naket cartoon chicks!

Scott Pilgrim, I might see it in a second run theater, but I hear great things about the comic.
