Shia LaBeouf joins "Indiana Jones 4"?

According to AICN, Shia LaBeouf, star of the upcoming Transformer's film, may be in talks to play the role of Indiana Jones' son in the upcoming sequel: Indiana Jones 4.

AICN writes:

The thing is, we know Spielberg loves La Beouf right now. DISTURBIA became a pet project for The Beard, and it evidently came out well. TRANSFORMERS is a big deal for the company, and a lot of the weight of that falls squarely on the shoulders of Shia. So as much as I pray that there's no Indy Jr., I’m starting to think that this may in fact be true.

Indiana Jones 4 is currently scheduled for a May 22, 2008 release.

KJ's Take:  Assuming this is true, Shia really has a chance at becoming a big star in Hollywood.  I never really pegged him for the leading man type, but maybe I was wrong.

wait-a-minute.... Indiana Jones has a kid? in which of the past three flicks did THAT happen? Isnt this supposed to be a spoiler? guess not. Oh Well...

Hmmm, it looks like things are slowly starting to gather some steam. I can't wait..I have been looking forward to this Indiana Jones for well forever..

Well, I`m sure that they`ll have to explain how he has a kid all of a sudden, considering he was involved with a different woman in each of the movies. and only 2 were actually alive. Come to think about it, did they ever actually explain why he never stayed with the 1st girl from Raiders?

What needs explaining.... and kids don't necessarilly mean bad story... I'll bet ten bucks Shia will play an absolutely uninterested and unexperienced kid who will be a nice foil for his adventurer dad... hopefully Indy's dad is in it too

So you`ll just be happy with a kid just comng out of nowhere? That just wouldn`t make any sense. Like we know in Die Hard McClane has kids, because we`ve heard it mentioned so there would be no reason to explain why his kid is in the next movie, but I think they need to say something about Indy`s kid. It doesn`t have to be a huge thing. A line or two of dialogue would do. Maybe he didn`t even know he had a kid, or something like that.

Indiana Jones hasn't had a movie in 18 years. He had to do something to entertain himself. Don't see where it needs much explaining.

I'm sure it will be explained in the the movie. Most things like that are.

I was thinking this could happen for a while.

Indy's kid gets in trouble, and Indy and his Dad have to go rescue him.

This should be really interesting. Shia holds his own pretty well in Greatest Game ... althought the little short kid would be hilarious as Indy's kid. Shia has a certain level of intensity that leading men usually need. Although my guess is that Transformers could make or break him as a serious contender for leading man status.

Either way, I saw Raiders like a bazillion times so no matter what I will be in line for this if/when it finally hits the screen.

Is there any reliable source, AT ALL, on this story? There was a time where Cinescape at least had a semi-reputable tip from someone in the know. Now this whole story is based on some what someone at AICN said? Where's the backup for this?
