Well, AICN had it right that Brett Ratner was being considered for the job of directing The Wolfman, after Mark Romanek dropped out due to creative differences. But Ratner isn't the only one on the list, says the Hollywood Reporter. Frank Darabont, James Mangold, Bill Condon and Joe Johnston are also being considered by Universal Pictures for the new gig. Trade also says that Martin Campbell was at one time interested but is no longer in contention.

The question still remains as to who will get it. Whoever wins has to deal with a locked script due to the WGA strike so that may play a part in the final decision. Universal says the new director will be in place by next week so expect an announcement soon. Production is set to begin in March.

Johnston, Darabont, or Campbell would all be far better choices than Ratner. Plus I think they would do a much better job of handling the material than Ratner.

Oh, I heard that Brett Ratner already had it, so I'm glad that's not true. This just isn't his genre.

As much as I like Ratners movies (they are fun), I agree that he is not the best choice for this. I have said wi ould like to see Mark Pellington do this, but if not, James Mangold or Joe Johnston.

Mangold or Darabont would be fine choices IMHO. They've both done pretty good thrillers in the past. I thought Identity was really good and as far as Darabont, he should do a thriller not written by S.King.

Geez, ANYONE of those other directors would be better than Ratner.

I would think that if Darabont or Mangold took the gig they would want to do rewrites on the script, which would mean having to wait until after the strike is resolved. Bill Condon doesn't strike me as the right type of guy for this film, given he made Dreamgirls and Gods & Monsters. The material doesn't look like it would play to his strengths. Joe Johnston could make for an interesting choice, and would probably be the best pick for the studio. I would agree that any of these guys would be better than Ratner.

I am so not looking forward to WOLF HOUR or RUSH MAN if Ratner directs. His X-Men sequel was forgettable and his Rush Hour flicks are canned action flicks...
but I would be down for seeing Chris Tucker transform into the wolfman...just think of it! Would that just be ...swell?

I can see Tucker's reaction looking in the mirror after he's turned into the Wolfman...

Crapner should direct Fat Wolf, starring Harry Knowles

I hope they give it to Mangold. 3:10 to Yuma and Walk the Line show he can handle projects well.
