Comments:
Now that SHREK 2 is a bonafide smash, DreamWorks is out to make a third and even a fourth adventure with the Scottish-sounding ogre. While the release date isn't known, we would imagine it would be out sooner than the time between the first and second film (three years.)
Scoop Feedback:
Janaury 23, 2004... Variety reports that DreamWorks has already started thinking about what to do in a third SHREK adventure and a sequel to the upcoming SHARK TALE CGI animation film. According to the article, while no writers have been hired to work on the screenplays for either picture, SHREK 3's premise will find the green ogre heading off to the land of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. SHARK TALE 2 is less defined. [Variety.]
May 25, 2004... After the amazing performance of SHREK 2 at the box office this past weekend, to no one's suprise DreamWorks director of animation has confirmed that the studio wants to make SHREK 3 and SHREK 4 happen. "It wasn't really advisable to start working on three and four until we knew that we actually had something in two, and certainly this weekend confirmed that we do," DreamWorks' Ann Daly told The Hollywood Reporter.
The studio is in negotiations to get Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy and Antonio Banderas back in the third outing. Previously Jeffrey Katzenberg, one of DreamWorks' three founders, told the press that SHREK 4 would show us how the grouchy green ogre came to be living in the swamp at the first film. May 28, 2004... We launch our page for this project.
June 2, 2004... Writers Peter Seaman and Jeffrey Price have been hired to start working on a script for SHREK 3. DreamWorks, the studio that released the first two SHREKs, has now said that it wants the third adventure out in time for a holiday 2006 timeframe. Another writer, Jon Zack (who has a movie called THE PERFECT SCORE coming out later this year) will work on SHREK 3 in a consultant capacity.
Earlier buzz about the storyline for the third picture centered on Shrek meeting with King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Whether this is the same direction that Seaman and Price will continue with remains unknown. While no deal has been reached to return SHREK's voice talent, it's generally believed that deals will be worked out eventually for Mike Myers (Shrek), Cameron Diaz (Princess Fiona) and Eddie Murphy (Donkey) that will see them reprise their characters for a third adventure (and possibly a fourth too.) [Variety.]
May 2, 2005...DreamWorks has signed pop star Justin Timberlake to provide the voice of Artie, King Harold's rebellious nephew for SHREK 3. [Variety.]
