DreamWorks Animation has given a First Look feature to USA Today for Shrek Forever After, the final installment of the series following Mike Myers' character. Director Mike Mitchell (Sky High) also sat down with the paper to discuss what the next story centers on.

After rescuing a princess, getting hitched and fathering triplets, Shrek is feeling over-domesticated. "He has lost his roar," says director Mitchell. "It used to send villagers running away in terror. Now they run to him and ask him to sign their pitchforks and torches."

To regain his ogre mojo, he strikes a deal with Rumpelstiltskin, the wee troublemaker who popped up briefly in Shrek 2 and 3.

The next adventure will feature the voices of Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz, Eddie Murphy, Antonio Banderas, Walt Dohrn, Jon Hamm and Kathy Griffin. Mitchell helmed from a screenplay by Tim Sullivan and Josh Klausner.

Shrek Forever After will hit theaters May 21, 2010.

A Puss in Boots prequel will also hit theaters November 4, 2011.

For "Shrek" sakes! Movie 1 was great, 2 was decent, by the time movie 3 came the jokes were old and stale. Even Eddie Murphy's donkey wasnt remotely funny anymore. They meaning the wheels behind this , are beating a dead-horse. Im pretty sure the movie grosses decreased steadily after every movie.

Shrek : $484,409,218 Worldwide

Shrek 2: $919,838,758 Worldwide

Shrek 3: $798,958,162 Worldwide

midwest: To answer your question with only 100,000,000 million drop off i'd say they are pretty confident that kids will drag their parents into another film and not worry about losing any money from a Billion dollar franchise.  Plus DVD sales etc etc etc.  I have a kid so I know i'm going to see this.  Like i saw Planet 51 on Sunday.  sigh...............

While in Texas this summer,  I talked in depth to 5 very prominent voice actors in the industry.  Well prominent in this genre anyway.

I never knew this but,  the entire film is created by second tier voice actors,  that figure out the timing, and the comedy, and lay out the entire track.

At which point,  the animators animate off of their first tracks.  Then the real actors come in,  and do it again.

Im mentioning this because some of them worked on shrek.  And they said that the original shrek actors did a much better job than the final actors.  Especially michael meyers.  But eddie murphy came in and threw a tantrum.  He said there was no way he was sharing screen time with a voice actor.

The coolest thing about the whole talk was that they all said thank you to Jason and I for taking them back to their hotel in their character voices,  which are amazing to hear in person.  I recorded it on my iphone and every time I listen to it Im amazed that I know what they really look like:)

TheStormrider: that is a really great movie story. I always like to hear cool insider stuff like that. Thanks for sharing.

When I first heard they were making this movie, I was undecided on if I agreed on a fourth installment.  Usually by the time a movie goes that far, they become stale (see Spiderman).  But I'm digging the premise presented. I may even go see this in theatres and not wait for a dvd release.

I'll wait for some clips and a trailer before I decide wether or not to mpay for this. If they can only recapture the magic from the first. Hopefully the long hiatus gave them enough time to regroup

I thought 5 movies were planned in this series. They also got the two featurettes, one that's shown at Universal Studios and the TV one last year; Shrek 3D and Shrek the Halls.

I loved the first movie and thought the second succeeded in maintaining the same magic from the first.  I must admit that I thought the third one was sub par at best, especially with the whole King Arthur (Or should I say Artie) story.  The jokes at his high school seemed like a regurgitation of old, tired cliches that the writers just threw in as a sorry attempt at humor.  I liked the concept of the bad guys wanting to finally get theirs but the whole 'let's all just get along' ending was a little too happy, even for a kid's movie.  The thing I liked about the prevoious installments was their ability to add a little edge to classic fairy tales and the ending just felt like that edge was completely gone.  Like Spider-man, I hope that the Shrek series can erase the unsettling taste in our mouths from a lackluster third installment.  The powers that be need to realize that if people loved the first installment, then they need to revert back to what made the series a success in the first place.  If so, there may be hope for all down on their luck franchises to breathe new life into their respective series.

Dont take this wrong but all the hollywood is beating a dead horse and this is excessive type comments dont mean anything...Kids dont think like that and thats who this is geared towards...Dont know if any of you have kids or not but the ones of us that do from experience can tell you a kid can watch the same damn dvd everyday for like a week when they get a new one, so when this comes out most kids, probably even mine will be begging from the first tv trailer to go see this...personally I dont like Shrek or other kids movies I cant get into CGI or any type of fully animated movie really but more than likely they will be getting my money based on me being a parent...

Well, I don't think Shrek is aimed solely at kids, especially young ones. This is aimed more at the tween age group and adults.
