Variety is reporting that G.I JOE has its first casting choice locked in and Paramount has set an official release date for the upcoming adaptation. Actress Sienna Miller has joined the live-action version of the famous 80's toon and Hasbro toy line. She'll be playing the lead female, the raven-haired Baroness for director Stephen Sommers. Hasbro's Brian Goldner and Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be producing the project. Paramount plans to begin production in mid-February.

Plot Concept: The story is set at Brussels-based GIJOE, an acronym for the Global Integrated Joint Operating Entity, and revolves around an international co-ed force of operatives who use high-tech equipment to battle Cobra, an evil org headed by a Scottish arms dealer.

G.I JOE hits theaters August 7, 2009.

Seems okay to me. I really liked her in Layer Cake...

Oh man, great casting... Too bad i still can't get excited about this movie. I am not a fan of stephen summers. All his movies so far have been too flashy, yet lack of substance. And i know some might argue that That's what popcorn movies are, but still, i like some sort of substance in my movies

Is it just me, wasn't Baroness stacked? I rember her being stacked. I mean, Scarlett was stacked. So wouldn't her COBRA counterpart be stacked as well? Sommers is gonna have to CGI her some chesticles!

Wasn't destro from scotland and cobra commander from cobra-la??

I don`t like her. Maybe I`m jaded because living in the UK, I`ve seen her in a bunch of other movies. She`s not that good. And yeah, the Baroness is supposed to be stacked. She is stackless.

WTF So is cobra commander not in this? Dont tell me they are making him scottish. That would be so dumb. Might as well cast Mike Myers as cobra commander if ur doing that. Please dont mess this up. I will stay reserved and hope for the best until this mess is explained better. I am happy to see Stephen Sommers at the directors chair. I liked what he did with the Mummy movies.

They need to make this more American. I might have to pull out my picketing sign. Have to change it from "No prequels for Star Wars" that ended well. Pisses me off everytime I read that plot. I hope this bombs.

WOW! you have to be the worst Journalist I have ever seen.

Hasbro has already debunked the Brussels-based GIJOE rumor saying that they will be based in the "Pit"

This is taken from an article you posted yourself "The G.I. Joe team will not be based in Brussels. Instead, they will be based out of the "Pit""

Scottish arms dealer sounds like Destro to me. It was he and Baroness who were an item anyway.

jochimus • Nov 20, 2007, 07:55am •
Well, in the comics anyway, Destro was a Scottish arms dealer. And as it is, he may as well be in command of Cobra anyway, since Cobra Commander always seems to come off as a bit of a twit.
