After spending four years in development hell, Universal Pictures is officially moving forward with their plans to turn Robert Ludlum's The Sigma Protocol into a film franchise. The studio has already made a verified on-screen brand by way of Ludlum's Bourne series and hopes to do the same with this series as well. Deadline reports the studio has brought in veteran writer Irwin Winkler and Jose Ruisanchez to flesh out the screenplay. Winkler is known for his producing credits on classics such as Rocky, Raging Bull and Goodfellas.
Plot Concept: Ludlum's last novel centered around a young investment banker who discovers a secret organization that has been manipulating the global economy. When the banker tries to expose the scheme, he's targeted for death.
