It looks like we do have an interesting bit of belated news coming from the UK while a lot of people on this side of the pond celebrate the holiday. A quote which didn't get much coverage over here at the end of June, something that happens frequently with quotes from oversea magazines. Fellow Maniac "Richard" has passed along word that Sigourney Weaver has told OK Magazine that she would be more than happy to revisit her iconic Ellen Ripley character in a future installment of the Alien series. The actress, who's turning 60, told the magazine the following.

“I would definitely do another if I had a director like Ridley Scott and we had a good idea,” she says of the classic sci-fi movie franchise. “Ridley is enthusiastic about it.”

“I’m not going to start apologising,” she says of her age in next month’s Saga magazine.

“Sophia Loren is my inspiration. She is a woman who has never apologised for being herself.”

Despite the mixed fan thoughts on Alien Resurrection, there can be no doubt that the ending did leave an opening for more Ripley tales in the future. Much like the recent efforts of Rocky, Rambo and Indiana Jones, it would be just a question of how to incorporate her age into the overall story for any willing director and 20th Century Fox.

I absolutely love Alien and Aliens. I like certain elements of Alien 3 and I have a soft spot for Alien Resurrection (Jeunet has a good eye) but they were ultimately failures. I adore Sigourney Weaver and Ridley Scott is a man-God but I gotta pass on the thought of another one. I would rather see Ridley and Sigourney collaborate on a new genre movie. These movies have been stomped into the ground, time to move on, show me something new......

I gotta say i wouldn't mind, as long as they have a decent script and good director i just wouldn't be able to take it if they made a new Alien movie and it sucked..

That surprises me PRED since they treated your people so badly in the last two AVP movies.<BR itxtvisited="1" />But seriously you don't think you could take it if it sucked? The last two sucked, you should be used to it.<BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />I'm not sure I want to see a 60 year old Ripley. She's probably the toughest female character of any movie I've ever seen (I know Hamilton kicked butt in T2, but it's close). I'd think they could only ruin her character, worse. I'd pass on this too if she was involved in action scenes. TDF starts today.

It's too bad that she ever agreed to do A3 and AR... she was so fortunate to work with two of our generations greatest directors on Alien and Aliens, which completely skyrocketed her career. She thought that she was the one who made the franchise as ssuccessful as it was and started agreeing to whatever crap scripts they put out there - as long as there was a $20 million paycheck. I'll never forgive her for alowing herself to be included in a script that had Newt killed in the first ten minutes of a movie!<BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />It seems like she's maybe realizing now, that the success of the first two movies was not just about her, but maybe had a little something to do with these iconic directors Scott and Cameron, who at the time were just launching their careers.<BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />However, I'm sure that she'd still take the paycheck anyway - even if Scott wasn't involved.

Haven't you heard? 60 is the new 40. Ms Weaver would do fine. What they need is a freaking STORY. In my humble opinion, the sequels went the wrong way with the whole concept. They went dark instead of the kick-butt survival, horror sci-fi flick they did so well. Ripley needs to kick some butt again but this time with a spanking brand new concept that still sticks to the alien menace angle. It has to go that way because without another mind-bending sci-fi surprise that grabs you in the gut, it's just another horror movie.

Yes, Alien and Aliens were the best movies. Alien 3 was bad because they killed off three characters in that film. Newt, Hicks, and Ripley. Hicks would've been an awesome addition to this film and probably would've made it better to sit through, and if it hadn't been for the plot twist of Ripley's alien chestburster and subsequent death, we would've had a very different Alien 4. It was because Ripley died in the third movie that they went the direction they did with the fourth. Should they do an Alien 5, she'll still be the Alien/human hybrid clone she was from Resurrection. Not that I didn't like this new version of Ripley, just the film she was depicted in. And no retconning, please. I heard they almost considered retconning for Alien 4 where Ripley had never died in Alien 3. Let's stick with the current storyline, despite the shortcomings of the last two sequels. Hey, they could pit Ripley against both the Predators and Aliens in a new Aliens Vs. Predator film. It worked in Aliens Vs. Predator Vs. Terminator. But then again, we might just want to see her fighting Aliens again. Whatever they do, I'm sure it will be better. Let Ridley Scott or James Cameron direct it and it will be.

I saw "Be Kind Rewind" and while Weaver is starting to show her age a little she is still beautiful and I think she could be great in a new Aliens film. Maybe she shouldn't be the central kick-butt character, but if the franchise is going to be brought back to greatness, we definitely need her... Notice how other big franchises with aging main characters have brought in younger sidekicks. Live Free or Die Hard and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull both did it, so I think it only makes sense Ripley has a younger person alongside her to battle the alien hordes. This then gives us a perfect scenario in which to reverse the damage of Alien3 and Resurrection, and bring back an older Hicks and now grown up Newt (Rebecca)! I would definitely not go with a continuation of the Resurrection plotline though. No need to bring back Wynona (when's the last time she appeared in anything?)

After the horrible AVP movies, I have always said they should split this apart and just make another Predator and Alien movie. <BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />I grew up watching the Alien franchise and the only one I was able to see in theatre was Alien4, which was fucking horrible. Talk about the third one being bad, NO! This one takes the cake and the bakery, people!<BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />I never quite understood why Alien3 got hated on so much. You have Fincher, great director, thrown into a almost impossible situation and makes the camera work on that film look much better then Cameron, or even Scott. The story was ok but what really got me into this movie was the acting, the direction and of course, the Alien. IMO, the Alien in the third one was a lot crazier and just pissed off then any of the others.<BR itxtvisited="1" /><BR itxtvisited="1" />So, all in all; I welcome another Alien film with open arms and a open chest!

OK Fox, listen closely. 1. Use minor chronology from A4 but major inspiration from A2 to launch a brand new trilogy of the sickest scifi epic ever. 2. Go get Boyle, Berg, Scott, Vaughn, or another fairly skilled director 3. Story setting is an all-out space war between man and alien has raged for the last 10 years. Suddenly, the alien army has retreated and gone quiet. The space federation and bad-ass marines sit in wonder, but take the cease-fire opp to train harder and better. 4. Show us a wise, but beautiful Ripley living in a massive earth-community space station. Show us how Ripley is content to be free from fighting the bugs, but still "in the know". Ripley is actually an instructor for the Marines, and she teaches a training class all about the phychology and fighting skills of the alien hoard. She is the best. 5. Give us 3 key marine students who will learn from the sage Ripley, and drive the rest of the trilogy. One Vazquez-like gunner, one Ripley-type female, and one leading man. 6. Suddenly, the Aliens strike a key military outpost. all hell breaks loose. what is the secret plot of the alien strategy? 7. Forces are rallied, and somehow Rip joins the three newbies and hundreds of others for a battle like none other. Show us 4 Queen aliens, and a secretive new skill from the beasts. 8. Set us up for two more films on the great war saga that ends up on the alien home planet. Blow our minds with this shit.
