News has it that Marvel's Silver Surfer will play a large role in Fantastic Four 2, slated for a July 4, 2007 release.

20th Century Fox is currently deciding between scripts by Mark Frost (X-Men 2) and Don Payne (My Super-Ex Girlfriend). Payne's script appears to be the front runner and includes the Silver Surfer.

Production for Fantastic Four 2 is set to begin on August 1, 2006 and Tim Story is back to direct. The first movie grossed more than $154 million domestically and hopes for more in its second bow.

The First film was ok. I would have liked it better if Dr. Doom was done properly.

I vote for Jude Law as the Silver Surfer. Also, does this mean we will see Galactus?

Who gives a shit? And does this mean it will be called Fantastic Five?

FF sucked. I was really wanting Galactus' big screen debut to be in something of a higher caliber.
But FF1 was kind of a primer...hopefully FF2 will be much better

Once again, Cinescape is asleep at the wheel.

This Surfer news was reported at every other worthwhile site, 3 days ago.

I smell bankruptcy coming.

joeypsychotic: Why would it be called "Fantastic Five"? Surfer was never part of the team but he is/was a *pivotal* character in the FF mythos.

lachness2k: This assumes that you're the type of web-surfer that hits every site under the sun. Frankly, this is one of few sites I bother to visit. And damnit, I could give a sh*t if Cinescape has "old" news that I've already read.

Sometimes news isn't news to everyone... but it's always news to someone.

20105: Interesting choice - I think Jude would be a great choice (though would he take the part?). That said, without Galactus there's no Surfer - they're a package deal, methinks!

It's a challenge though - I don't think there's any actor tall enough to play Galactus...

I agree with you, raithen, on the news bit. I come here regularly to read up on entertainment news because the god knows how many other sites out there usually print facts and rumors with no distinguishing between the two. I come to Cinescape to get new first because they're reliable, and always say wether something is definite or rumor. Does Wizard magazine have a site like this? I was just curious about that.

As for FF2, yeah, I'm not exactly looking forward to it, but I think everybody is kind of too hard on the first one. Yeah, it wasn't great, but has anybody out there ever seen the 1994 FF movie that was so bad that it never saw the light of day? Not in theaters, not overseas, not on video, not on TV, and probably not even on a 6 hour flight. I bought a bootleg of it off of Ebay because I was curious. Trust me, if you watch that, you'll gain a whole new appreciation for the 2005 movie.

I like Jude Law as the Surfer also. I've liked him as an actor since I saw "Gattaca", which is usually shamefully underrated.

And does it really matter who plays Galactus? I mean, his face is mostly covered except for his mouth, and usually in cartoons and stuff they have him speaking in a deep, loud, monotone voice. Hell, ANYBODY could play him. Well, maybe not Gary Coleman or Phyllis Diller, but most anybody else.

And killerville, I'm glad I was able to show you the way on the Red Sonja posting. Go in peace and geek no more, my son.

I do like checking out Cinescape, but I did see this 2 days ago on Superherohype, so it is old news. (and that`s the only other site like this I go to)Cinescape used to be a little more up to date with the news, we wanted to know about, but lately its been a lot of fluff.
On the story at hand, they really do need Galactus if they are going to have Norrin Radd. I mean, the surfers whole existence is based solely on the fact that Galactus needed a herald to find him a suitable planet to consume. They would have to change Surfer`s whole backstory, which would probably suck, for it to make any sense at all without the big G.
And I don`t know about Jude Law for Surfer. Can`t really picture him bald and silver. Then again I really couldn`t picture Kelsey Grammar, blue and furry.
