Fox Home Entertainment has announced the DVD rollout date for their latest summer hit, THE SIMPSONS MOVIE, which hits International markets for DVD & Blu-Ray on December 3, 2007 and North American markets on December 18, 2007. The long awaited adaptation of the television show has pulled in 504.2 million in worldwide sales since it opened in theaters on July 27 and now the studio is positioning it for a well-timed holiday season release..

Here's the DVD/Blu-Ray press release:

It takes a feature-length film to fully capture Homer Simpson's stupidity and The Simpsons Movie does it! The Simpsons Movie has generated more than $500 million globally and will be available worldwide on DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) Internationally on December 3 and in North America on December 18 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Additionally, The Simpsons Movie also features the guest voice talents of Oscar nominee Albert Brooks, rock band Green Day and two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks.

The long anticipated finds the fate of Springfield - the suburban setting that has been home to "The Simpsons" clan for more than 18 years - hanging in the balance when Homer and his new pet pig inadvertently cause a major ecological disaster in their hometown. Forced to flee, it is up to the paunchy patriarch to save his family, the Springfield community and possibly... the world.

"The Simpsons" series' veterans Ian Maxtone-Graham, George Meyer, David Mirkin, Mike Reiss, Matt Selman, John Swartzwelder and Jon Vitti joined Brooks, Groening, Jean and Scully to write the eagerly anticipated script, and David Silverman (Monsters, Inc.) directed.

I think I'll buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out and then sit and wait until I can afford a Hi-Def TV and player to watch it on.

Score one for Blu Ray! I'm still upset Transformers is only on HD DVD.

Anyway, miko: tv's are dropping in price now and you don't have to go and get a 1080p cause the difference is most notable on big screens, like 40" and up. You can get a good 26" 720p from 600-700 dollars I think.
As for the player, do what I did. Pay 500 bucks for the PS3 and you get a system plus a blu ray player.

$29.98 for a single disk? WOW.. thats expencive... although i just notified Santa about this release date... I wonder how many copies I'll get for christmas?

The suggested retail price seems a bit high, but I suspect it'll actually be about $19 when it appears at Wal-Mart, Target, etc.

And regardless, if the recent parity between the American dollar and the Canadian dollar continues, the Canadians are the ones really getting screwed on the price.

I'm more curious about the release date in North America. I know a lot of people wait until the last minute to buy gifts, but a lot don't, and I would imagine that they'll lose some business putting it out only a week before Christmas.

And, given the recent parity between the American dollar and the Canadian dollar, the Canadians are getting screwed on the price.

Because of the parity, yup, we are getting screwed on the price here in Canada. that goes for paperback novels and magazines as well - anything that has a US price and Canadian price on it. Gonna become a border jumping bargain hunter.

Good news, The Paramount HD-DVD contract is for 18 months. By that time HD-DVD should be dead. I was behind HD-DVD at first but I finally bought a PS3 and There is no where to buy or rent HD-DVD. Walmart, Blockbuster, Best Buy, and Netflix are behind BD.

Best film of the summer, Alot better then PIGFORMERS, to bad there was no robotic transforming pig. And Santa got your request for the DVD, I am having an affair with Mrs. Clause and he left his checklist next to there bed and I was reading it between hump sessions last night. I promises 1 copy each to all MANIA posters.
However Haunukah Harry has the exclusive delivery rights on the 2 discs until Valentines day when his contract is up.

ALIEN • Sep 26, 2007, 02:45pm •
It appears a lo tof people who loved transformers, now seem to dislike it.

As for The Simpsons, it was easily one of the best films of the summer. Refreshing and not a sequel.

I prefer DVD. I wonder why international obtains the Movie before The US?

They can kiss my Optimus Prime A** if they think I am going to buy this movie twice. I'll wait for the Transformers 1 & 2 BD special editions.
