Just a few weeks after revealing to SDCC crowds that Sin City 2 could be in production by the end of this year, director Robert Rodriguez has confirmed to We Got This Covered (via SHH) that they----meaning the helmer and his partner Frank Miller---have received financial backing for the long-awaited second installment. All that remains is some last minute touches upon the screenplay.

"Sin City 2 is going good, we're just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages. And it's the same thing for Machete 2. We've already got the budget, just waiting for the script. As soon as we're finished writing we get to start the shoot."

Back at the SDCC event, the helmer revealed the title to be Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, based on Frank Miller's storyline by the same name. We know that Mickey Rourke's Marv and Jessica Alba's Nancy were featured in that comic but it was (and still is) too early to reveal any casting information. Rodriguez also announced in Hall H that the sequel would feature two new stories set within the confines of Sin City, one of them titled The Long Bad Night.

I really enjoyed the cheesy fun and visuals of the first SC.  However, I'm not anxious to revisit that world.  One of the things that SC had going for it was the original way it was shot.  I'd like to see Rodriguez to continue to innovate.  That would mean, no more Spy Kids and grindhouse flicks.  I suspect, though, that is where his true talent lies.

this is good news i guess sin city 2 will be out by 2013 I loved the first one and as long as miller is writing the script Ill look forward to the second one. From what i understand there will be two new stories added to a dame to kill for

I'm glad to hear this.  Never saw the first one in the theater and I wish I had, good flick.

I was worried Rod would want to make a spy kids 20 or something like that again.

I also hope that once sin city 2 is done that he puts heavy metal into full gear. I wouldnt mind seeing what robert can do with that one. I just hope its better than the heavy metal 2000 sequel that was a simple single story line that seemed only interested in making money instead of telling some off beat and interesting stories.

This is way overdue. Get the freak going already.

I however do believe that a lot of people probably feel the way InnerSanctum does, the way the film was shot was innovative and I always felt that was a major draw at the time. Today I think folk may have had their share of green screens. I however I'm not part of that camp and will be there regardless of whatr format he uses for the film.

Sin City was awesome - great cast - great flick. I could use a few more of them i love the way it's shot.

I hope Rourke at least comes back for the sequal.

As long as Frank Miller doesn't do any directing. Did you see The Spirit? It made my brain bleed.

Who cares about Sin City 2.....did you all miss this huge news???

Machete 2 is almost here!!!  ;)

Machete sucked.

dalgoda 8/9/2011 1:37:22 PM

Yeah, I was joking.  Rodriguez always seems to have too many projects going on and not really putting out good stuff like he used to.  Machete 2, Spy Kids 5 or 6, etc.  His career hasn't progressed like I thought it would after his early stuff.
