Violator - Can I get an "Amen", My Brother's, lmfao!!!!......Violater is still speaking for me....
@Sarcastic Caveman - Oh I have duly noted Superman III. Not excusing SUperman 4 either. I guess i'm talking current movies. Superman Returns had some moments but I was very sad and dissapointed with that one.
Man of Steel. I have some high hopes. But after the first (Zod) whom do they line up as the next villian. My hope is Brainiac, after him whom? Lex Luthor is a foil but I pray they don't go down that road about recycling him over and over. Make Lex the Brain and manipulator he is. Playing and using to further his agenda. But anyways this is a Marvel thread and i've rambled too much.
@Monkeyfoot - I get what your saying....I dont expect the Studio's to cater to our every Fanboy Whim or try to stifle any Director/Writer/Producers/Crew.....Right!...to be Creative......I'll concede the SpiderMan movie's probally didnt need to be Re-booted at all...but , IMO, The Xmen Franchise was RIPE for it.......Look at the 1st Hulk movie...Lee tried to appease Us to much, I think, then after, the Studio went Right Back to the T.V. Hulk Origin...
So they're is Precedent.....and since General Comic Book knowledge is so EASILY ACCESSIBLE.....I dont think that it would be Sooooooo hard to Find Out, and throw us the Bone's we the, UberFanboy's, lol,....REALLY want to chew on, Marvel's doing it.........
I would want MY Studio to do the samething................Thanos, anybody, LOL....
Other then the obvious mutants who exist in present vs. the 60s and The White Queen's blunder from 'Wolverine' to First Class, I look at the continuity this way:
How many times has Charles been in and out of the chair in the comics? It's feasible he could have walked to find Jean in 'X-men: Last Stand' and been back in the chair. Logan's old, no mess there. Things will never be perfect in a comic book movie as the story has to be updated if your dealing with something that happened in the 60s (Green Goblin/Gwen Stacy, Avenger's finding Cap, etc.). And some superheroes, like Wolverine, who weren't on the original team but became favorites after their introduction will be added to old storylines. Like Venom or Carnage...
The latest Batman took the helicopter death of Bats and incorporated it in a cool way. Supes is following his comic storyline with finding himself (and his new costume design) in his new movie. Singer will probably do the same.
Trying to follow the comics is as likely to result in a hit as it is a flop. There are just too many stories to pick, I mean to what story are you going to be faithful. I actually like the idea of a Marvrl (or DC if that's your thing) movie universe, I always tend to look at the movies as their own story. I may get sour grapes when they treat a character I like badly Ala Deadpool, but for most of the flicks I'm happier putting down the 10bucks for a new story then I ever was reading alot of comics.
Ok seriously, we TOTALLY understand changing stories, a little history here and there to adapt to film scripts. Believe me i do. But there is an absurd difference between doing that, and COMPLETELY changing the entire roster of the characters who are the VERY REASON the comic became one of the biggest selling iconic comics of all time!!! ESPECIALLY when you replace them with lame ass characters i have never even heard of. Is that really so hard to understand?? It would be like replacing Optimus Prime with Hoover Vaccuum Prime or some shit. U just dont do that!
...ok ill even say u can replace SOME of the original xmen maybe, but DEFINITELY NOT 80% of the entire team!
st8fromvegas appreciate the sentiment, just took a little vacation.
Despite having lost much of my enthusiasm for this franchise I still love the X-Men and this is a great story. Now let's see how they butcher it or hopefully not
I hear you Violator and I understand, believe me. It is a new age in superhero movies and the first X-men movie concept is from the previous (very successful) age along with Blade. Nowadays you can get away with much truer comic book material and audiences love it because its the comic they remember reading.
Completely re-booting the X-men series is a business model any accountant at Fox would choke at. Yes, you could make it truer to the source but what if you completely alienate the general audience who love the movies the way they are? Will re-booty lovers make up the profit difference or will it be one of those internet complaints, "Why did they make those AvP movies they're stupid! A Total Recall remake? Why? The new Friday the 13th and Halloween? Geez, why didn't they just stick with what worked?" Et cetera.
I don't know. I got no answer. But I was thinking if they do a really good time twist in the X:Future Past movie and have the mutants change things in the past after they are warned, it could possible re-set/re-boot the present X-men and there is a scene occurring "now" with the X-Men movie-verse that is suddenly much more like the comic version. Sort of like Abrams Star Trek movie.
