SUPERNATURAL: Mystery Spot - Feb 17, 2008 - 11:06am
Except next week is another remake of a movie. Assault on precinct 13. The good guy and the bad guy work together to fight off the bigger threat on the outside of a confined environment. This will make it three in a row for gimmicksville. Granted I think they they turned the groundhog day one around with the repeated shorter cuts to Dean's demise, very funny, but....it's still smacks of laziness and gets old.

First Look at Universal's DOOMSDAY - Dec 28, 2007 - 07:12pm
I agree with the feelings of fuck no, not again, but I like the director a lot and he make this more than it appears.

First Five Minutes of THE GOLDEN COMPASS - Dec 04, 2007 - 02:36pm
"And I never quite understood the "Its jut a movie" comment. Granted.. it is highly unlikely that any ONE movie is going to forever alter anyone's thinking. But what does that MEAN? If a movie was released tomorrow that powerfully, dangerously promoted racism, should we all yawn and say "Ah - its just a movie"? If a movie was released tomorrow that promoted abuse of women, or touted the glories of Nazi Germany, or which celebrated the notion of slavery, should we warn people not to criticize, or to keep their opinions to themselves? I don't think so. " ....and I don't understand why poeople who think a movie trashes their beliefs have to mobilize an army of criticism so they can feel confident about themselves and those beliefs. If I think a movie is going to promote racism or a nazi belief system or the abuse of women I just won't go see it. I won't try and instigate campaigns against other seeing it though. I'm not saying you personally would do these things but I'd like to think we're less of the sheep we behave like at times and can make up our own minds. Christian groups around the country were using the Narnia movie to bolster Christian beliefs in kids with special church screenings etc. I bet you didn't hear one shout from anybody about how dare they from non-Christians. After all it's only a movie and for this athiest one of my favorite childhood books. P.S Those 5 minutes looked just fine. The kids weren't annoying (much more important than Christian/Non-Christian allegory's to me). I might go see this.

HEROES: Cautionary Tales - Nov 26, 2007 - 12:37pm
It was a great episode but the Mohinder character is beyond irritating in his naivety and really ruins it for me. With everything he's been through he behaves this way. Beyond stupid and poorly written. It's like they couldn't figure out a way to make certain events happen true to character so they just cheat and write someone out of character or out of human nature. That Adam/Kensei was the killer was obvious and the big reveal was very anti-climatic. I do like how his goodness or badness is purely by perspective.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT - Oct 21, 2007 - 08:05pm
Saw it this morning and it was worth the $5 for morning matinee. As far as Vampire movies go this is one of the better ones in many years. I think if someone with a lot more gravitas or "charisma" had been cast in Hartnett's place it would have resonated a lot more. He's a C hair away from the depth of Keannu Reeves. The vampires look very good but I am tired of all vampires throughout recent movies having to hiss and move their head like an insect. That gets really old for me. Danny Huston was good as Marlow, their leader. I didn't recognize him in the previews.

Hartnett Talks 30 DAYS OF NIGHT - Oct 15, 2007 - 01:44pm
***Possible Spoiler within a complaint about spoilers*** Great, so by talking about the ending like this we pretty much spoil it. It's obvious that the inference is that in the comic he dies/or becomes undead but because it's Hartnett and Hollywood in the film he would live (insert possible sequel opp). I haven't read the comic and there will be many who haven't who want to see this movie. I really want to see this movie and hope that' it's good enough that having such a big foreshadowing of the ending won't ruin it.

What Will You Watch? - Sep 30, 2007 - 08:54pm
I caught "Life" after Bionic Woman and liked how they're writing the main guy. It could get interesting. Bonic Woman gets a pass from me.

30 DAYS OF NIGHT: Blood Trails - Sep 13, 2007 - 10:34pm
I only saw a double feature. Where are episodes 3&4 you mentioned? Good stuff...

RESIDENT EVIL:EXTINCTION Trailer - Jul 28, 2007 - 09:46pm
Wow! I guess I'm the first...That was worthy of a trip to the cinema. I didn't hate Apocalypse like some seem to. The first one had some moments but was just OK. I think these seem to be getting better each time.

BEOWULF Trailer Now Online - Jul 26, 2007 - 07:30pm
Reminded me of the Final Fantasy movie which I enjoyed a lot.

TRANSFORMERS Rolls Out to Victory - Jul 08, 2007 - 06:03pm
I've always hated how budgets and financial returns/theatre performance have become a part of a movies achievement for the general public. Let the suits have their board meetings about all this shit. I just want to enjoy a moment of escapism on the screen and it won't be enhanced because I knew a movie was making a better per screen average than the one I passed on. Sure, knowing how much a movie pulled in once it's all said and done is kind of interesting but all the stats and projections and fiscal performance updates reminds me too much why most movies suck in the first place. Because these are the things cared about most when they greenlit and made the damn thing. I'd still like to fantasize that art may be in their somewhere and not just a business plan from Merril Lynch. I'm not a fan of Michael Bay, nor was I ever a big fan of the original cartoon but Transformers hands down was the most fun I've had in the longest time at a summer movie. It blew Spidey away for me. I'm waiting to netflix POTC and FF2. Long live Optimus Prime....

Cuthbert Talks CAPTIVITY Experience - Jul 05, 2007 - 02:19pm
I love it when actors or directors talk about how different or original or"interesting" the movie is and it's always the same tired retread of plot/ideas/cinematography we've seen ad-nauseum. I like what some one previously said about "walks like a duck". I think The horror genre (as much as I love horror) is about as tired as it gets right now. I wonder if the Hollywood satires are true. Movies in the last few years, that were tired in the theatre, as an initial pitch were truly original. They get greenlit and then the executives come in and get it re-written and re-directed to the point of the LCD hell that hit's the screen. Jeez, Roland Joffe is actually a real director. What's he doing with this.

Hawke Calls DAYBREAKERS "Silly" - Jul 03, 2007 - 08:47pm
"But just because it’s an allegory for a serious issue (dwindling fossil fuels), that doesn’t mean the flick takes itself seriously, said Hawke. “[It’s] low art,” the former Mr. Thurman confessed. “Completely unpretentious and silly.” There's absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. It probably sums up the viewing experience perfectly, because as we know, all the other vampire action movies have been so serious and deep. What is he meant to say. "This movie touched my soul. It made me re-evaluate my art and strive for greater heights" pleeease. These movies are low art. Doesn't mean they can't be a lot of fun. I appreciate his candor and honesty. i'll still go see it too as I'm always down for unpretentious and silly.

Extended Glimpse At SUNSHINE - Jul 01, 2007 - 04:59pm
This looks good, with a good cast. Wait a minute....so did Supernova before I saw it.

New BOURNE Trailer Online - Jun 30, 2007 - 04:38pm
That looks absolutely top notch. I'm glad there's still some action/thriller movies being made that people with reasonable IQ's can enjoy. That being said, I'm all over Transformers beyotch!!! :)

EASTERN PROMISES Trailer Online - Jun 29, 2007 - 01:00pm
Great cast, great director. This looks very good.

WAR Poster Strikes - Jun 29, 2007 - 12:59pm
I just hope they don't cop out and set up Jet as a bad guy to only have him doing it all for some noble good guy purpose. I want him to be a scumbag and no teaming up with Statham. Make it a real war. Lol, maybe they can have a big Wushu firehose battle!!

A Look at IRON Characters - Jun 23, 2007 - 07:07pm
Yeah, BAD ASS!

KING Talks 1408, Eli Roth's Horror & Hollywood! - Jun 23, 2007 - 12:36am
I remeber loving the Mist when i first read it in the 80's. I hope the movie lives up to the memory and I hope my much older age can still be spooked by it. 1408 is the first King adaptation that I actually saw the trailer and wanted to go see it. It's about time they get the creepiness and insidious nature of his writing. Past movies always seemed to lose that.

8 Minutes to DIE HARD For - Jun 21, 2007 - 01:09am
There's something about the look and sound of the footage I've seen that I don't like. It definitely looks like it's shot digitally and the music isn't as immediate or in sync with it like the previous movies. I really miss the grand cinematic feel the Diehard movies have had in the past. This seems much less operatic. I can't say I'm that excited. Sure, the plane stuff looks great but the overall look does not. Plus I'm not really crazy about the typical smartass, whining sidekick/protectee (even though Sam Jackson did this kind of character justice). Justin Long isn't bad but it just makes me wish he catch a round to the head early on and let Bruce Willis get back to business. To have let anyone other than McTiernan to make this was wrong, plain and simple.

Babylon 5 Finally - Jun 18, 2007 - 03:10am
"I'm such a god damn dork but I can't wait to check out the new B5"........slinks away to his role playing card collection and Minbari warrior caste action figures....

Jackson, Harlin Are Into Another KISS - Jun 13, 2007 - 01:28pm
LKG was one of those movies I should have not liked but I can't tell a lie....I own it! It's cheesy and overblown but so much god damn fun. It has some of the best dialog in an action movie I've seen. "You know what happens when you make an assumption? You make an ass out of you....and umption" "So unless you're an ass fuckin fan......" "..here, next to what looks like a drawing of a large penis".."That's not a dick, it's a duck" "You can see those comin' 'round the corner. Got time to comb your hair and shit" ....and Brian Cox's quiet tirade about his mother's dog licking it's ass at the dinner table is pure genius! I really hope that Shane Black is the writer as Kiss Kiss Bang Bang showed he still had the magic to write this stuff. I love it. A sequel better be as R and it better be as funny.

INVASION Trailer - Jun 11, 2007 - 11:50am
I thought the trailer looked good and you can't knock the cast. Netflix it will be.

I AM LEGEND Poster - Jun 09, 2007 - 03:25am
The Vincent Price movie is great. Highly recommend watching it. I can't lie, that new I Am Legend trailer piqued my interest.

BUG - May 25, 2007 - 01:53am
But would you say it's a horror movie? Does it actually have any cool bug nastiness or is it all delusional paranoia and hallucinations?

SEVERANCE - May 25, 2007 - 01:52am
I like the trailer for this movie.

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: AT WORLD’S END - May 24, 2007 - 06:33pm
Ice Pirates 2: Revenge Of The Space Herpes

Heroes: How to Stop an Exploding Man - May 23, 2007 - 01:07pm
I agree with you bjjdenver. Definitely should have been 2 hours. I'm also loving the huge stink of Denial in a lot of these "positive" comments. This battle wasn't worthy of closing out a season. An episode yes, but not a season. Jeez, the episode where Ted destroys Claire's home and she's losing flesh was 10 times more exciting and extremely FX laden. So the argument about the show being "based in reality" and not needing big FX for the end are lame, they already did it and very well.

24 - Episode 4:00 AM – 6:00 AM - May 23, 2007 - 12:41am
It sucked even more than the Heroes finale and that suh-ucked.

Heroes: How to Stop an Exploding Man - May 23, 2007 - 12:37am
I was actually flabbergasted at how weak and underwritten the climax was. No imagination and lazy as hell. They should have had as grasping to keep up with how the heroes worked together to beat Sylar. I really neede a WOW and I was left with a WTF instead. I know the guys on the forum are really trying to come up with some depth and theories for this climax that give it some oomph but c'mon guys, it was lame and we can't imagine the crappiness away. When you watch this on DVD you'll be like "Fuck! It didn't get better, no matter what I thought of for the last 6 months"! ...yeah, I'll still check out Season 2.

New TRANSFORMERS Trailer - May 17, 2007 - 08:37pm
Holy ginzu Batman! that looked awesome and I don't even like Michael Bay movies. Jeez, get a grip there Sgt Pepper. MetalWatero, you do realize it's a movie about giant transforming Robots, and it ain't produced by Merchant Ivory.

24: 2:00 PM – 3:00 AM - May 10, 2007 - 06:22pm
The whole invasion of CTU was absolute bullshit. From their computer and physical security to Jack being the only one capable of actually killing or repelling anyone. Shit, the average home security has the ability to automatically transmit to police once breached without you having to do aything and it can't be "bypassed". Just the fact that the Chinese would openly engage in attacks and missions on U.S. soil is pretty ridiculous. Like the combined forces of our military and local anti-terror units wouldn't squash that shit quick. I know we've done the same many times on foreign soil but 24 is really asking too much for suspension of disbelief. Plus it was hard buying the nervousness of the VP's assistant. When that much is at stake you would pull it together much better, especially when you had no trouble screwing the guy while lying to another guy all along.

Benioff Takes on GEMINI MAN - May 07, 2007 - 01:22am
If only they could ressurect Charles Bronson so he could play himself again.

SPIDER-MAN 3 - May 04, 2007 - 01:54pm
I'm scared. I hated SM2 as well. I was really over his agonizing with Mary Jane and was really hoping the 3rd movie would just get on with less of their crap and more of everything else. I'm ready to see someone take over for continuing movies and see what they do with it. New director, new cast. Sam needs to concentrate on Evil Dead 4: Ashes to Ashes anyway!!

Kilmer, Valderrama join "Columbus Day" - Apr 25, 2007 - 09:41pm
Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang was awesome. Very funny. I'll always give Val a go. He couldn't get me to go see Deja Vu though. I'm over Tony Scott.

"Heroes: .07%" - Apr 25, 2007 - 04:13am
It can be the best show on TV. I found this episode irritating and a little boring. Especially after having to wait. I really wanted them to knock my socks off and I think in this episode the show was a little to precious with itself. The whole protracted death/ressurection of Peter and every other moment just seemed like it was stalling for time. C'mon we know he'll regenerate. You know it, I know it, Claire knew it, pull the freakin' glass out already and get on with it. I love Malcom McDowell but his scenes just weren't that interesting. All moustache twirl, no substance. The Hiro bit again was just that, a bit. Will his character ever do anything but be a momentary, cute comic relief for a brief part of an episode. This episode lacked a real energy. It's time to give us more than just these guys flailing around and really bring the story up and onward. P.S. I was running a fever last night so I was a little short fused I guess but I stand by what I said. P.P.S What was up with Jessica not tearing the morphing chick a new one, even just verbally. A strange woman in front of her house and also gives her attitude. It didn't feel right that she just looks at her perplexed while she walked away. She would have sensed something wrong and rushed in to find Micah gone and all hell would've broken loose.

"Painkiller Jane" - Apr 18, 2007 - 03:18am
Well popa it's nice to hear from one of the producers/writers shoeshine boys of Painkiller Jane. Please, it was a steaming pile. If this show makes it past 6 episodes I'll be even more pissed that Blade was cancelled by Spike.

"24: 11:00 PM – 12:00 AM" - Apr 18, 2007 - 03:13am
Stephen, not to bust your balls but there's a big difference between "resend" and rescind". Also between "he" and "she". I just don't get the amount of errors I see on web pages when you consider spellcheck and all other kinds of tech in our favor. Imagine back in the olden days of typewriters, handwritten pieces and a knowledge of spelling and grammar. If I made a mistake in my comment, well...screw you guys!! lol I can take or leave 24 right now. I love this show but I think the well has run dry.

"Unearthed" Trailer now online. - Apr 17, 2007 - 01:51am
You also forgot Alien Vs. The Graboids

"Painkiller Jane" - Apr 17, 2007 - 01:39am
I couldn't agree more. I was surprised while watching it how bad it was. SciFi really dropped the ball on this one. It's makes the BSG episodes I didn't like this season seem like The Godfather in quality. I won't be giving it another chance.

"24: 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM" - Mar 28, 2007 - 04:37pm
I just thought it was weak that Karen hayes didn't clue the President in to having his ducks in a row before calling the VP and telling him to back off. I found that scene laughable. No politician makes that kind of confrontation without backup. Why didn't he simply get put on speaker phone to the room and calmly announce he was resuming his duties? Seriously lame. This show really clutches at straws sometimes to maintain drama. Plus I've got to rebut the first poster on the Kiss. That was a great scene and it put a new light on Milo as more of a man and less of a whiner. Maybe inexperienced men/boys can't relate to taking control with a woman when the moment is now or never. But I will agree that the threat doesn't feel all that threatening this season. Even after them actually detonating a nuke.

"28 Weeks Later" Trailer now Online - Mar 27, 2007 - 01:55pm
"I am there opening night, I'm down like KJ's self esteem!" Oh SNNNAAAAP!

New Line says no "Elm Street" or "Freddy vs Jason 2" - Mar 27, 2007 - 01:39pm
I thought F vs J was fun too and don't know what the hell people expect out these movies to be letdown. The lead actors have always been bad and are there for the bodycount. It's too late for a sequel anyway. Saw was smart about it and hit you with sequels within a year of each past movie. It keeps the energy up and as long as the quality stays true keeps it in the mindset of our ADD culture. I gotta say too that I just "saw" TCM The Beginning on cable and it really wasn't that bad. Plus it had some fantastic kills. R. Lee Ermey is the shiznit.

"Battlestar Galactica: Crossroads Part 2" - Mar 27, 2007 - 03:07am
Yeah, the last 15 minutes were fantastic television but if next season is going to have as much boring television as this season had I'll be letting this one go. I remember a while back when every week would have me going how they can keep up this quality. I was always telling guys at work on Monday how kickass it was. Well I was answered this season. They can't. I want this show to succeed as it's high quality executed scifi but it's got to deliver more often.

Michael Biehn joining "Avatar"? - Mar 26, 2007 - 05:17am
If anything it makes me think Right On! Often a big budget movie not weighed down by a megastar can be really kick ass. James Cameron is a master at this stuff and until I see a trailer that sucks it sounds good to me. Plus we're hungry for good scifi because the Star Wars films did suck and Chronicles of Riddick fell short too. Between Pluto nash and Solaris and whatever else I'm glad to forget I need a good scifi movie.

Kurt Russell talks about the remake of "Escape" - Mar 26, 2007 - 05:01am
I hate the way box office has become a standard of a movie being relevant, artistic or having merit in general. I couldn't give a rat f*ck how much a movie made. If it's bad ass to me it's bad ass. Ben Stiller's movies have made a lot of money and he to me is the defintion of c*ckstain and a hack to boot. I think Russel had every right to say whatever the hell he wants about Plissken as the two are inseparable. I like Butler a lot but hearing him try and lisp his way through an American accent doesn't work for me. Saying the FX/visuals can be better to me is a lame reason to argue for a remake. It's the visuals of the day that often lend a film it's magic. You can't visually improve an actors performance or great editing or dialog. In carpenter's original he talked about not having enough money to show the Prez's plane crashing. I'm sure in the remake they can have it in all it's CGI glory. But I don't care. It never mattered in the original but it's un-necessary details like that that will be front and center in a remake, because they can. Escape from New York is not about big explosions (ok, maybe some small ones) it's about up close and personal. A knife in your ribs. A mace upside your head. A bullet in the brain and a Cadillac on your beautiful round Barbea breasts!

"24: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM" - Mar 21, 2007 - 03:26am
The traitor is probably Milo as they made a big deal about him using his password to help her keep working at her station. I agree this season has been mostly retread. It's still better than almost anything on TV but it's been better, much better. Why is it that in these shows or movies the Military leaders no matter what are all about let's blow 'em up. Launch! Launch! I wish sometimes they would be given more credit for rationale mixed in with their verve for battle. Even a Military leader would cry foul at the VP's intention to launch anyway after averting the strike on SF. Also the VP, just because he wants to, being able to authorize an invasion and a nuclear strike on his say so is pretty far fetched. Even in crisis there would be serious protocol's on a decision like that. If they're only going to stop it by reviving Palmer to stave the order (and probably croak soon after) then that's seriously lame! Where the hell is Martha, she rocks! How dare they leave us with her stabbing Logan and not even showing up in this episode? I don't mind Ricky, he's been OK so far. As long as he doesn't detract from Jack's role as the action orientated protagonaist. This show is Bauer baby. Accept no substitute.

Gerard Butler joins "Escape From New York" - Mar 13, 2007 - 01:49pm
godsonfilm, how old are your kids? What I mean is, would they be bored by Kurosawa sword play, John Ford Westerns, 50's/60's scifi with the models on strings, car chases from the 70's. I was born in 1970 and can remember loving all that "outdated" stuff as a kid and still like it. Should all that stuff be remade because it's not as slick and as "real" feeling as todays cinema? Using Kurosawa (Seven Samurai/Magnificent Seven) and Scorsese (Infernal Affairs/The Departed) as examples I would say that re-makes work well across language and cultural barriers. I think re-makes within the American market of recent American material just seems desparate to capture one more younger demo. I think the remake of Halloween by Zombie is also a lame idea. But I tend to be against the grain on this site and didn't care for either House 1000 Corpses or Devil's Rejects. On a side note I think Bonus material on movies that goes into every excrutiating little detail on how stuff is done is ruining movies. There's no magic left.

Gerard Butler joins "Escape From New York" - Mar 13, 2007 - 02:27am
"KJ's Take: I'm afraid the original is a bit too dated for me. I only vaguely remember the 1996 sequel, Escape from L.A., and only watched bits and pieces at that. Regardless, if done right, I think this could be a very, very cool action film" I can't believe I'm dignifying this with a response but are you kidding? You can't recreate that movie. It has a flavor and feel that are also heavily due to when it was made. It's not a brilliant movie but it's an imperfect masterpiece. Snake Plissken cannot be re-cast and even though I like Gerard Butler I think this is a bad move on his part and his Scottish "lisp" won't help sell Snake either. Donald Pleasance crying and yelling "The Duke of New York!!"...priceless Even the guy with the crazy hair who 2nd's the Duke. Who plays him? Stiffler? Would you re-cast Han Solo?...Well you would if J.J Abrams was making a prequel about his days at the smuggling academy)....NO! I would much rather see a sequel to The Thing. Butler would be great in that and he wouldn't even have to play Kurt's role as MacCready would be dead or getting his thing on. Plus it technically could be something new and not a remake.

Day Break is Done! - Mar 04, 2007 - 07:54pm
I'm watching Day Break right now and it's pretty damn good (it is very 24 like though in it's production)...you can never tell what the networks will actually run with. I liked Kidnapped a lot too.

"300" - Feb 28, 2007 - 12:24pm
So are you saying that every movie that has a computer generated background or vista seems smaller as we know it's fake hmmmm. So I guess Star Wars and LOTR and hell, almost any movie made in the last 5 years must be terribly small and distracting. Even regular drama's and comedies use computers to create the sky or back drop they want all the time. Open Range, a western has fake blue skies that fill the screen. From the previews of this movie I can't believe anyone went in to see it and found it too stylized. It's obvious that it's heavily rendered and a total fantasy. It's like going to see Sin City and complaining that it didn't look very realistic. I think the preview seems to give us a good idea of what we're in for. If the acting is as passionate and entertaining it looks to be pretty damn cool to me.

Ghost Rider: Don’t Forget to Burn - Feb 21, 2007 - 10:54am
I don't know if it's post-blade but Nick Fury: Agent of Shield starring the Hoff is about as low as I've seen. The previews make Ghost Rider look like crap so at last some previews have accurately portrayed the full length product. Now, I'll discredit everything I've said by saying I didn't mind X Men 3 (didn't see it until an airplane flight, so expectations were looooow). I really thought it was much better that X2 and even more fun than X1. Sure, it was flawed but as a movie I can watch a few times and not be bored it does the job. The first two bore me. I think Singer is very overated and will probably never do something as good as The usual Suspects again. I do think that even though Jackman deserved the spotlight in a way with his Wolverine peformance, in the long run those movies will be hurt by not taking a chance on spreading the love on character highlighting. Why make a Wolverine movie? We just saw three of them! Look folks, these movies will never touch the comics because of trying to achieve a lowest common denominator audience for maximum return. Now if HBO started making comic based series or movies, some good, true to the often adult complexity of these stories may come through without the cardboard cutout characters and tee hee one-liners. ....and I don't care what anybody thinks. Blade the series on Spike was awesome and I'm bummed it's gone.

"24: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM" - Feb 16, 2007 - 10:18pm
I like Cromwell but I'm having a little trouble believing his character would kill his entire family and risk hundreds of thousands of lives over his Company's well being. Lifetime achievement or not, I just don't buy it. I get that Morris doesn't have training on resisting torture but when you know you're giving someone the abilty to kill that many people you would last longer or kill yourself if you could. Plus I found it hard to believe that the woman would deliver Morris for the 7 Mil. I know there are sociopathic people out there but it rang false. For once I would like to see how it would play out if a side character would just immediately tell Jack or CTU what they were threatened with or blackmailed about and let them actually help. When his Sister in Law get's the call from Phillip it's obvious from this show's track record that she won't tell Jack but it would have been an awesome surpise if she immediately turned to him after hanging up and told him what happened. Just once I'd like to see that.

"Battlestar Galactica: The Woman King" - Feb 13, 2007 - 12:51pm
You might want to use spellcheck. There's a big difference between assignation and assassination and not just in spelling. I like Helo's character, I just think they could develop characters and excite us at the same time which they failed to do on this one. This show hasn't made me go wow in quite a while...and that used to happen quite a lot in Season 2. I miss it. At this rate this show will be cancelled before they make any real progress. Which is a bummer.

Sony to make "Metal Gear Solid" film - Feb 09, 2007 - 12:19pm
Movie? I thought I already saw one when I played MGS 2. I honestly don't care as I don't believe they'll produce anything as well thought out or mature as the stuff in the games anyway. The end of MGS2 was way ahead of it's time talking about the control of information and got into some very heady stuff. I couldn't imagine a lowest common denominator movie having the balls to be that deep or interesting.

James McAvoy joins "Star Trek XI"? - Jan 26, 2007 - 11:15am
The more I here, the more I feel some serious space sickness about the whle thing. The only continuity in time I ask for is the mini skirts. Make sure the chicks are all in those beautifully short, short skirts! (**Warning** sarcasm) Hey I just had a brilliant idea! Lets get that Hayden guy who played Anakin Skywalker to play Kirk as he was so vibrant and full of life in that marvelous trilogy of adventure and wimsy.

"Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" Artwork - Jan 13, 2007 - 05:26pm
Funny, I thought the wit in the first one was poorly written and found the movie quite lame. As did the 3 people I saw it with. On the other hand I loved the 2nd one because it kept flowing, the wit was better and the action was awesome.

William Shatner talks "Star Trek XI" - Jan 11, 2007 - 12:10pm
But again your saying that all it takes is a few years to erase 40 years of presence in our consciousness. I just don't buy it. I know our pop culture has a short attention span but this is different. I wonder what Trump would say about a prequel..."large short term returns but no long term potential for growth" or some crap like that. Anyway, what I mean is bringing back Kirk and Spock is a "bandaid" move and will no doubt do good business because it will cause such a stir that curiosity will win out. But where does this leave the future of Trek after this movie? I love TOS. It's my favorite. But I don't need to start all over again with those characters. I am satisfied with what they gave me the first time around. I just wish Paramount had some long term vision/balls and would move forward in the time line and not back. I have no problems with Abrams doing it just the premise. If the writing and casting is good, new faces and environments would succeed. It's funny that now TV has become the well spring of new ideas and stretching boundaries and film has largely become a very tepid, by the numbers product. Like TV used to be. This makes me want to see HBO finanace a Star Trek series.

William Shatner talks "Star Trek XI" - Jan 11, 2007 - 10:45am
First I think this movie sounds like an awful idea but I'm open to being swayed to a matinee by good casting and a tasty preview. People, stop talking about the "fans" of trek like they're a small niche of nerds in their Momma's basements. Let's see, 10 Movies, 5 TV shows, cartoons, comics, 100's of novels, eternal syndication that will be playing Trek when we atually do make first contact. The "fans" of trek are in the millions and millions. that's why this comment from Abram's is really annoying... "For people who've never seen it or know it vaguely, I think they will enjoy it equally, because the movie does not require you to know anything about Star Trek. I would actually prefer [that] people don't know the series, because I feel like they will come to it with an open mind." In other words, open mind means swallow our our incredibly tired premise of remaking the history with a prequel/reboot and giving the two most favorite characters another go around because we can't take a chance on you connecting with new ones. Thanks to movies like Children Of men and Pan's Labyrinth there's still a source of new invigorating ideas and imagery for the screen because American corpoprate/studios are over as far as creativity goes. The whole point of Trek is to look forward while examining our current humanity. If ever there was a property where prequels or extensive retogrades were against the grain this is it. With this approach the universe of Trek and the excitement of the unknown becoming known is over. R.I.P. GR

Weekend Box Office Report for January 5-7 - Jan 08, 2007 - 12:22am
I can't recommend Children Of Men more highly. I saw it today and it was truly a visceral experience. I would drive an hour to see this movie. Forget about comparisons to Blade Runner, it's marketing bullshit. COM is a much more realistic look at a very possible future. It's gritty but doesn't feel falsley manipulated to be so. Great, honest characterizations and action and violence that is jarringly real and intense. This movie will make you think seriously about what we're made of as a race because if a biological event that robs us of our common comforts were to occur, this movie could be all too real. Best movie I've seen in the theater in years.

Remake of a Remake? THING Again. - Dec 27, 2006 - 03:19pm
Shudder...I can already see the absolute soul sucking, crap CGI creature mutations. They'll all be so slick and move just too fast to really be in the space but what do I know. I'm just a citzen who doesn't know cinema. I honestly miss scale models, guys in suits, cry's on the set of "bring me more goo!" CGI does not look more real and if anything, because it's obviously not in the room with the actors it's quite distracting. Aliens is still an amazing example of what can be achieved with physical, not computer creation. The JC version is so perfect (his best movie) that a remake will truly be a tragic waste of money. All the subtle nuances will be trampled with obvious manipulating from a team that won't believe that this generation has the attention span. I remember at 12 (when I first saw it) how I hated the end (probably more so because the movie was over) but as an adult it's one of the most perfect endings I've seen for a horror movie.... P.S I bet anyone a movie ticket that it will have a creature rush right into the camera with its big open orafice at super CGI speed! Yay! It's so exciting!

"Silent Hill 2" on the way - Dec 27, 2006 - 03:02pm
Even though I agree you should have made it clearer that the end comment on the piece was your own it's a genre website for Christ's sake. Lighten up you pussies. We're fans of some of the most heinous stuff put to film so unless some of you are secretly buying The Notebook without telling anyone give me a break.....and I can't remember the last time I saw a horror movie that kicked ass so I can understand if people who have to watch this shit for a living might get a little vocal about it. Of course that's assuming that Mania's paying you lol! P.S I didn't think SH was a pile of crap but it fell far short of great.

"Silent Hill 2" on the way - Dec 27, 2006 - 02:53pm
"However, he wonders if he can truly come back for a 2nd movie because of Onimusha" Onimusha! Now that's something I can get excited about. But honestly the pregame cgi movies were so bad ass I think they should make a feature in the same style. Forget live action.

McDowell Set as Loomis - Dec 26, 2006 - 04:11pm
Spiderkeg, you nailed it. Just because someone grew up on stuff and loves certain genres doesn't mean they can do it themselves. I think both House/Corpses and Devils Rejects were both an incredibly underwelming execution of a great idea. They were so self conscious of their cult 70's worship that they became horrible parodies. Halloween is pretty overated anyway and does anybody want to make anything new anymore? Shit, I remember the interviews with Paul Anderson about how much he loved the Alien and Predator movies and how rich AVP was going to be with kickass Alien Predatorness and...well....we all know how that turned out

"Battlestar Galactica: The Eye of Jupiter" - Dec 20, 2006 - 03:57pm
I did think the planet looked a little too "Nevada/Utah" to have much algae on it. Good show, but for me it falters as much as it exhilerates. I'll stick with it but this season has had some pretty boring episodes. The episode with the survivor they picked up (guy who tried to exact revenge on Adama) was quite lame in it's logic. I liked that it showed how the conflict may have been precipitated by Adama and the Humans but other than that it was so full of holes. Are we ever going to see that character again? Or did he serve his purpose and off he goes. I also miss the Tom ____? character played by Richard Hatch. Where's he been? I hate to say it but I'm pretty tired of the Starbuck character. I like the actress a lot but I think she's written too eratically and her volatility is very forced. Her talk with Lee about cheating but no Divorce was so ridiculous that I gave up on the both of them. After everything you've been through and still to go through you'd so easily push away true love or "the one". Bullshit. You can only hate yourself so much.

"Live Free or Die Hard" Trailer Online - Dec 16, 2006 - 07:15pm
With the music and numerous sweeping camera moves it came off as Michael Bay light. Not good. Die Hard has always been explosive but in a very hard and gritty manner as opposed to Bay's more camera technique obsessed, MTV style. Hopefully Len Wiseman will deliver someting more true to the original feel than just another Michael Bay rip off. Who knows, McClane vs. Vamp's and Werewolves may have been the better choice all round!

"Odyssey 5" - Dec 14, 2006 - 04:00am
I always wondered what happened to this show. I was into it and then it suddenly disappeared. Another showtime show called Street Time (about parole officers and their paroles) was on around the same time. Brilliant show but I fear it suffered the same fate.
