SKY CAPTAIN secrets finally revealed

Countingdown's Larry Carroll took a visit to the virtual set of SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW and got a great report out of it. Little is known about how first-time director Kerry Conran convinced Hollywood to take a chance and let him make his sciece fiction movie with just a computer program and a demo reel to show producers and actors. Countingdown's report helps fill in the missing pieces of the puzzle thanks to TOMORROW producer Jon Avnet.
To sell Avnet that he could make such an ambitious movie, Conran and his brother wrote their own computer program which allowed for them to insert live-action scenes filmed against a greenscreen into the computer and add backgrounds and items. The end result is a movie that stands a solid chance of redefining how films will be made in the coming decades. "It's like the Revenge of the Nerds is over," Avnet says, "and the nerds have won."
SKY CAPTAIN AND THE WORLD OF TOMORROW blasts into theaters on June 11 (our Development Heck page is here.) Check out the rest of the Countingdown set visit here!
