PRIMEVAL - Aug 20, 2008 - 05:29am
The show is on BBC America Saturday evenings. It's two episodes in but they are re-airing the first two all the time. On Saturday they will show last weeks episode followed by the new one. I'm putting it in TV Wasteland.

TV Review: BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: Revelations - Jun 17, 2008 - 05:39am
Ponyboy, we saw the same episode, I jsut tried to cover the episode without completely blowing it for someone who maybe hasn't seen it. Tigh revealing jimself to Adama wasn't huge because part of it was shown in the previews. It can be tough to talk about an episode like this one without just spoiling everything.

TV Wasteland: Fear Itself, Doomed to Fail - Jun 02, 2008 - 12:58pm
bjjdenver some sort of HD coverage might not be a bad idea. Let me put my mind to it....

TV Review: THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN: PART II - May 29, 2008 - 10:46am
Yeah I didn't even get into that magical thumb toss. I could go with an overall C for the entire thing. I think that's fair.

TV Wasteland: New Web Content in Fall - May 08, 2008 - 05:45am
Wasteland came late this week due to some technical difficulties. It will be going up on Monday mornings from here on out as long as everything goes as planned.

SMALLVILLE: Sleeper - Apr 27, 2008 - 05:32pm
My DVR choked and didn't record Descent and I didn't find another source to see it until several days later making a review old news at that point. Often we will skip a week for one show in favor of covering another to in order to keep variety up on the site though. If Smallville were more consistent we'd actually get some good reviews here and there too!

30 Rock Rocks! - Jan 28, 2008 - 06:59am
I know your pain Ponyboy! Get a TiVo or a crappy cable DVR like me and watch it all!

MEDIUM: But for the Grace of God - Jan 17, 2008 - 06:19am
Damn that's pretty funny

PRISON BREAK: Boxed In - Jan 17, 2008 - 06:18am
You're right it was Michael. It's really going to suck when the series just stops after the fifth episode.

MEDIUM: And Then - Jan 10, 2008 - 06:26pm
The image wasn't handled lightly. it wasn't a joke. It was supposed to be scary, and it was. This isn't just a show about murder, it's a scary show with demons of all sorts both realistic and more fantasy. Seeing an image like this one doesn't make me happy but seeing innovative and well written shows push boundaries with good writing rather doing it just for the heck of it does give me hope that the big three nets can do stuff other than Everybody Loves Raymond. This isn't the first time there's been images like this one on nighttime TV. The difference is that most of the time these images are exploitative. Here it wasn't exploitation, it was purposeful. I hate that you are going to stop watching but maybe this isn't the series for you because this isn't the first time Medium has gotten edgy and I'm sure it won't be the last.

JERICHO The Return - Jan 02, 2008 - 05:51am
I actually say that Jericho has some of the same problems as Heroes but these are much different shows.

HEROES: Truth and Consequences - Nov 28, 2007 - 09:14am
Boy there's just no pleasing you Raven LOL. Anyway, I gave the Micah story some slack becasue I really want to see this series start up some super teams and apparently so does he. Also, if this story ends up killing off Monica I'd take the grade even higher. it's not that I hate this character in the same wy as the wonder twins but I just feel like she's uNnecessary. Also, this series was padding story lines, creating unnecessary characters and killing the pacing of the series before the writer's strike was really on. They start the writing and preproduction process on a series like this a really long time before the series airs so much of this stuff was planned before anyone knew a strike was on. Finally, compare this episode to any of the first 6 and tell me this one doesn't deserve a B+ :)

HEROES: Cautionary Tales - Nov 25, 2007 - 04:46pm
Raven, First off, my reviews never disappear I just try to alternate what I cover from week to week. No, I don't review Heroes every week, I try to jump around and look at many different shows in the genre we love. I can't help it if the week I'm reviewing Heroes the episode is less than stellar. Also, as far as hitting the story to the finest point, I won't do that. You want that, go to the website for the series and read the plot summary. I hit on the aspects of each episode that effect me as a fan and a critic the parts that either make or break the episode. As far as Isaac's paintings got look at the New York one, it is clear that the bomb goes off and we know that the explosion does happen. Yes Bennett is shot and he does appear to be dead in the painting but we know how that ends. So the things depicted do literally happen just not as we are led to believe. So yes these paintings are the future in one form or another. With more investigation there might be additional inconsistencies in both directions. In the end these painting are nothing more than tools of misdirection used by the writers of the series. But since you wanted to nit pick the review I thought I should comment. I will say I may have been just a little harsh on Hiro in this episode but it's simply because his story has been so weak this season. Hiro is still a fun and likable character but most of what's happened to him this year could have been told in a fourth of the time it actually took. Yes Mr. Kring do something different please?! Here's something different, let's destroy New York! Yeah we haven't done that before. In all seriousness I applaud creators doing something unique with their series i just want them to make it something good as well as unique. I am planning to review all of the remaining episodes of Heroes though as we are leading up to the big finale. So I hope every future episode is as strong as this one.

FAMILY GUY Will Continue Without Peter, Stewie, or Brian? - Nov 18, 2007 - 11:56pm
Yes they ahve scripts but these types of shows are constantly tweaked along the way. So, who's gonna do those adjustments? Also, they have scripts but not all if any of the dialog has been recorded. I'd rather see the series go into reruns than have a bunch of network hacks screw it up.

Butt Kicking Double Feature - Oct 23, 2007 - 04:11pm
Ponyboy, I'm so glad someone else is saying this about Smallville. I didn't review it last week but plan to this week and based on the season so far I'm expecting the worst.

Butt Kicking Double Feature - Oct 22, 2007 - 06:26pm
Well at least it was bad information from a FOX press release!

Butt Kicking Double Feature - Oct 22, 2007 - 03:43pm
I did not misread the press release about The Sarah Conner Chronicles unless everyone did. Here's a quote: "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles is a spin-off of the popular Terminator movies, and is set between the events in the original Terminator and its megamillions sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Day." So no it does not happen between 2 and 3, it's in fact between 1 and 2 as I mention in the article....

Premiere Week - Sep 24, 2007 - 12:09am
Lots of new stuff this week, gonna cover as much as is humanly possible. Thanks to those providing corrections!

Digital Distractions - Aug 27, 2007 - 08:10am
You're right! The original guide I got had the shows listed as you see above but as of now there will be a Starggate marathon.

JOHN FROM CINCINNATI: His Visit: Day Nine - Aug 14, 2007 - 07:51am
I thought I made it clear why I gave it a D. The show didn't live up to any of its promises. Nothing really happened in the episode. There were some nice moments but nothing happened to explain anything. I like the offbeat nature but come on we have to get at least a crumb here and there. Expanding the wierdness doesn't count for explaining what's happening. I don't need all the answers in season one but some answers to make me want to keep coming back are required. There's a lot to like about this series but when you only get 10 episodes in a season you have to get to the point, or at least one of them, a little quicker.

J. Michael Straczynski Kills Me - Aug 13, 2007 - 10:26am
If you can trust imdb JMS is attached to the Silver Surfer movie. I hope it's true because he seems to have a really good grip on what makes the character compelling.

The Five Biggest Announcements from the San Diego Comic Con - Jul 29, 2007 - 10:45pm
It wasn't listed on the schedule I was sent. I will definitely be covering it though. I'm not expecting much but I'm hoping it'll be good.

ON THE LOT: Comedy With a Touch of Romance - Jul 26, 2007 - 08:15am
Maybe she's gone back to those old days, or maybe she's just lonely....

On the Lot: The Comedies - Jun 29, 2007 - 09:27am
I didn't get a chance to see John last week in time for a review to be relevant. I will see it this week and review it though, along with The 4400. I've never seen Rescue Me but I'm planning to try and catch up....

Jericho: Why It Should Come Back - Jun 11, 2007 - 07:58am
OK, next time I'll add "as of this writing...." When this article was written the seven episodes had not been confirmed and I'm not in the habit of writing about something that's unverified. I actually sumitted this article for posting before that information had been made public.

24 - Episode 4:00 AM – 6:00 AM - May 23, 2007 - 07:56am
The last 10 minutes of this episode was well written, but the finale as hard as it tries was still tying up a story that has just been weak and the finale doesn't save the season. The last 10 minutes, yes good, but most of waht came before was weak. You wanna talk about letdowns? What about the final confrontation between Jack and his daddy? Sure the last 10 minutes explained the reason that happened the way it did but I still would have rather seen an epic confrontation between jack and Phillip. Don't even get me started on how poorly Chloe was written all season and especially this episode. She barely had anything to do but get pregnant. The Heroes finally was better than most of us think. The lack of a big battle between Sylar and the heroes was disappointing but the story the finale was finishing up had better legs to stand on. There's no comparison between the two, the characters in Heroes were better in the finale and so was the story. I love 24 and hope they get it right next season....

"Drive: No Turning Back" - Apr 25, 2007 - 08:05am
He so much as says he's not a security guard in the dialogue exchange. Also, even one of the characters mentions that "he should call it in" like most guards would but he never does.

"Lost: Exposé" - Mar 30, 2007 - 08:30am
In an interview recently the producers said that they worked out a deal with the network to finish the show at 100 episodes. The series runs 24 episodes per season so by the end of season four they will be at 96 episodes. From what they said it sounds like the whole thing could be wrapped up in an extended season or a TV movie(s). Not sure how that will work but they did say four seasons....

Kidnapped on DVD - Feb 12, 2007 - 03:24pm
It used to be that bad ratings didn't mean the end of a series. Networks used to have confidence in their good programming and they would support it until it found the audience. X-Files first two seasons had very poor ratings. It's reality TV that killed support for good shows because the networks can pull an expensive drama and throw a cheap reality sereis on and make a quick buck. A great example other than Day break is Firefly. Had it been supported and allowed time to find its audience it could have easily ran eight seasons. Now that ny friend is worth complaining about. Also, I'm not really complaining in this article, actually I'm praising the networks for giving these series opportunites to finish their storylines one way or another.

"The Sarah Silverman Program" - Feb 09, 2007 - 08:29am
I call 'em like I see 'em. I'm not afraid to give an F if a show deserves it. This show got the grade it did because Sarah gets points for being exy and hilarious, and the show gets points for at least trying to do something different than all the other cookie cutter sitcoms out there. The show is mostly failure but I did laugh out loud a few times during it and it was definitely different. If the show manages to stay on the air I'll keep watching and we'll revisit it again in a few weeks to see if anything's improved.

William Shatner talks "Star Trek XI" - Jan 11, 2007 - 08:04am
Bringing in an"outsider" is exactly what this franchise needs. Keeping the old guard is what buried the franchise in the first place. I have faith that JJ can bring some new life to an old nearly dead franchise.

Gadgets Galore - Jan 08, 2007 - 08:38am
Well, when I started this I tried to stick to just hardcore genre stuff and people complained so I try to mix it up. I don't hate Rush Hour or love it. There just isn't crap on this week. Things get interesting starting the 24st. The ages of the cast on the Smallville series versus the ages of the cast of the film doesn't matter because those stories are not connected. Bryan Singer had said he was not going to tie into the series. So they are two complete different Universes. Now what is important is that Tom Welling turns 30 this year and he's supposed to be 19 or maybe 20 on the show. Erica Durance, who is 29 this year is supposed to be the same age as Clark on the series, or slightly older. I've had a problem with that from the beginning. Krissten Kreuk (Lois) and Allison Mack (Chloe) are both 25 this year, only a couple of years older than their characters they are playing.

Small Screen, Big Screen: Star Trek - Dec 20, 2006 - 09:25am
You are dead on snallygaster! I always imagined the ships like sailing ships, or maybe even submarines. They aren't supposed to buzz around, we'll leave that to BSG and Star Wars (both of which I also love). I would love to have seen Sulu's story but he's not a big enough craw for theatrical. He has a pretty juicy role coming up in a TV series we all love though! As far as the reunion idea, it won't go beyond true Trek fans. For the franchise to survive they have to be true to the fanbase yet be able to bring in the mainstream.

Small Screen, Big Screen: Star Trek - Dec 19, 2006 - 03:43pm
Let me tell you why specifically that Wrath of Khan, even today, is stronger than any other Trek film, especially the TNG filsm. Wrath of Khan wasn't about gizmos and tech, it was about two people, mortal enemies, fighting to the death. Yes the space battle was fairly basic because it wasn't about making two giant ships buzz around like Vipers or X-Wings, it was about two hulking battleships whose Captain's were working to outsmart each other. It was very personal. I loved TNG, but more often than not it went for the techno babble save, instead of the human story, or human will. Sure Khan had phasers and such but it was all very basic within the story. Plus TNG lost most of the sense of social or political commentary that the original series had. The fantastic cast brought a lot of heart to the show but the writing, especially in the films, especially in Nemesis had no passion. If you wanna see scifi done with real meaningful drama and sociopolitical commentary look at the new BSG. I think this commentary is important because it grounds the series and makes it easy to identify with even for non genre fans. Babylon 5 did this well too. This is where Abrams has to start. Someone asked earlier where the fans are on fighting to bring back Enterprise. Well, that was done, and done to an extreme with one group even raising a million bucks to do another episode. Berman and Braga killed that series, even with the very strong last season. I as a fan like the idea of taking the series 50 years after the last TNG and bringing back a cast member or two in cameos but I think that will be a wrong move. I think Abrams needs to have complete freedom from what's come before and get a fresh start. When I first heard that Matt Damon might play Kirk I thought it was a stupid idea. As someone mentioned earlier there have been many Bonds and they've done fine. I'm sure fans of Season Connery thought the idea of a new Bond was a terrible one, but Roger Moore was great. Does all that mean that Damon is the right guy for the job? Well I don't knwo, we'll just have to have faith in Abrams abilities.

Small Screen, Big Screen: Star Trek - Dec 19, 2006 - 10:09am
OK, you guys are right about Jerry Goldsmith, but he's still listed as doing the music on the last press release I got and on IMDB. So, I don't know what they'll do for a score. Getting young people to reboot the series? NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! We don't need another once great franchise rebooted into a Dawson's Creek on film. There was talk of doing a young Kirk at Starfleet Academy that gave me nightmares. The fanbase for this franchise is too old to see a bunch of kids in the roles with popular music and MTV cuts. For it to succeed they have to take a fresh modern approach but not alienate the current fans. A good example is the last Bond flick. While I think the script still needed work what they did right was bring in Daniel Craig and give the series modern sensibilities but still keeping what made Bond great. This is the kind of thing that will save Star trek.

LOST moving, DAY BREAK ending early? - Dec 12, 2006 - 09:10am
Here's the thing that kills me. What does SCIFI have that's higher rated than BSG? Even if they do have something that's higher rated, say SG-1, that's only one show for a whole week. They ahve to do more work at developing an audience for their shows the way FOX used to in the old days. The X-Files was a flop for the first few seasons but they stayed with it and made a great run. The whole thing makes me nuts because there really isn't a better show on TV right now.

HBO Keeps Getting My Money - Dec 04, 2006 - 08:34am
I've been a Marvel Comics guy as long as I've been able to read. I do have a hold box where I pick up certain titles each month but lately I'm a huge fan of graphic novels. I did pick up a graphic novel that collects the first several issues of the DC series Justice. I'm reading an old Perez compilation of Avengers books, and a few others. It can be expensive but rewarding. The Civil War sereis ahs been fantastic, with the Amazing Spider-Man being the best of the spin off books. Anything with the name Bendis or Straczinski on it gets my attention. I hope the Preacher series is good. It has so much potential. The Watchman is another one that's been in the works way to long. We'll just have to keep our fingers crossed....

"Heroes: Six Month’s Ago” - Nov 30, 2006 - 08:34am
I agree with both of you. The question I'm left with is how did that event change him emotionally? Does he feel any guilt over what happened? I know he couldn't have predicted that he would literally fly from the car the way he did but I'd think he'd at least feel bad that his wife was put into a wheelchair when he wasn't hurt at all. His actions don't speak to that at all, making him even more of a potential villain.

"Prison Break: The Killing Box" - Nov 29, 2006 - 08:00am
Well, Verbalkent, since it is the fall finale I wanted to discuss the major plot points and how successful they were or weren't. I mention in the review often enough about how great the show is and how the plot twists really worked for me. From the last paragraph "...best episodes to date". Rather than simply say Ohh this episdoe rocks I wanted to consider the plot, first by synopsising, then by covering the overall impact it had on the particular character involved. Kellerman and Mahone both came to a head in this episode and it was definitely worth discussing. I had hoped to hear some discussion in the comments about how it's all working for you guys. raulendymion's comment is something I'm hearing more and more, but I like the character of T-bag so much I'm sort of able to overlook the near superhuman ability he has of dealing with this hand. Hopefully now we are done with all that because yes they have taken it a bit far.

"Day Break: What if They Run?” - Nov 21, 2006 - 01:03pm
I felt the same way (obviously from my review) and I'm inclined to agree with you about the creepy guy at the police station. It'll be interesting to see how he plays into the story.

Is it Summer Break Again? - Nov 13, 2006 - 06:42pm
I agree with some of you that feel that series should just wait to start in January and run solid to the end. It would be worth the wait. Also, my bad on the typos, still working out some kinks. It's gonna be cleaner from here on out.

"The Buffy Files: Chapter 6" - Nov 08, 2006 - 09:46am
That was my goof up, you guys are right on Sweet. This season was pretty dark, and I liked it for that. I wish they'd bring the Angel Complete Series Collection over to the U.S. so I could dig into it like did this series. I almost finished with season 7 of Buffy and should have a review up for it next week.

The New Blood - Oct 09, 2006 - 10:34am
OK, the X-Men reference in the Heroes synopsis is a joke. As far as wanting a good back-story, absolutely that's a must. That's why LOST is still on TV. We lost Invasion and Surface both last year because they drug in the first few episodes and were never able to recover. I just saw that this series has been given the go ahead for the rest of the season so I'm excited to see what coems next. Thanks jasondavis and fft5305 for the welcome!

Dexter Series Premiere - Oct 07, 2006 - 09:30pm
No we saw the same show, I just don't think they know exactly what they want to do with it yet. Overall I liked it enough but the humor of which you speak is off balance. It's mildly amusing in a few parts at best, but what's smirk inducing to some could be hilarious to others. It's all subjective. I do think the cop that hates Dexter is ridiculous in comparison to the overall tone of the series though.

This Week's Premieres in Preview - Oct 02, 2006 - 01:19pm
Ask and you shall receive! An article introducing myself and a little about what I hope to do here is now on the To Do List!

This Week's Premieres in Preview - Oct 02, 2006 - 08:20am
Hello, Maybe I should have done some sort of introduction letter here along with the above article. I've just taken over the TV duties here at Cinescape and would love to hear about some of the things you guys would like to see within the TV columns.
