Slade Helming DAREDEVIL

David Slade to Direct New Daredevil Film.

By Jarrod Sarafin     March 15, 2011

20th Century Fox's plan to reboot the Daredevil franchise seems to be gaining traction with director David Slade coming on board to helm this latest look into the Marvel character. The studio has been eyeing a remake of their 2003 effort (which had Ben Affleck in the title role) because of property rights issues. If the studio had failed to produce a feature film on the character within a certain time frame, the rights would have reverted back to Marvel Studios, which currently has a distribution deal with Walt Disney Pictures.

Director David Slade seems to be staying within the genre realm we love these past few years, specifically within the world of comics and vampires. After jumping onto the scene with Hard Candy, the helmer has taken on the comic series 30 Days of Night, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and was recently attached to bringing about a Dracula side-tale with The Last Voyage of the Demeter. No word yet on whether he will focus on the latter film first before diving into this reboot of Daredevil but as Fox is on the clock, it may be the Marvel character which earns his focus in the near future.

Thanks to Calibur454 for the submission.

I'm not sure about this. I'll have to wait and see. Other than the Twilight film, his stuff was OK, I guess. I liked 30 Days of Night. He just better make Daredevil dark and find a good actor to play Murdock.

Who would you guys cast?

Just let the rights go ba to Marvel save us all another Fox-iasco!

I have no problems with Slade directing this. I loved 30 Days of Night and with Twilight I'm sure he did the best anyone could have hoped for with such sad material.

The part Jarrod didn't mention is that THR says the film will be based on The Born Again arc which is incredible news. One of the best arcs in Daredevil's history by Miller of course. Which brings into question and IMO answers it, that this will be a continuation of the first DD film since the Kingpin learned DD's identity at the end  of the first film. If this is the case I'm all for continuing DD's story and not doing a reboot, just a recast of the characters.

I'd like to see Michael Clark Duncan back as the Kingpin, Joe Pantoliano is good and I like to see him back but not a must as Urich and if by chance they want Bullseye back I thought Colin Farrell was good in the role. Everyone else definitely needs to be recast

The ideal scenario as far as I'm concerned would be a Daredevil/Punisher team up, sort of like a Lethal Weapon style buddy movie, but even though the last Punisher film tanked, unless they both revert to Marvel ownership, it won't happen...

And keep Fisk in the background, don't out him as a criminal in the first fucking movie!

Basically it would be like the Punisher's first appearance but with Daredevil instead of Spidey, they spend the first half of the movie DD tracking down this dangerous vigilante Frank Castle and ends up fighting Bullseye and some other villains and Frank saves the day and they team up to take them down and find out who hired them...

Yeah the cast was mostly great, but if this is a reboot, it needs to be a new cast!
Casting Matt Murdoch shouldn't be too hard, someone lean with red hair, who looks like a lawyer...
Daredevil needs to be portrayed by an acrobat for the most part substituting the actor in close-ups and dialogue scenes...

i think im the only one that really liked the first DD. If i thought that was entertaining, then Im sure this one will be even cooler.

I got Daredevil for free on DVD when I bought a DVD player at Best Buy, and the movie wasn't even worth being free.  The cast was fine - Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell were by far the best parts of the movie.  But the story and directing just plain sucked.

I know he's in fairly big demand now, but I think Chris Pine could make for a good Matt Murdock.  Give his hair a red tint, and he could pull off the role well.

Violater I liked the first one too, everything but the excessive CGI and the park fight and it would have been perfect to me... I really liked the way they portrayed his blindness. I was a big DD fan as a kid, he was one of my favorites, so I hope they do get this going and make it really good to make more in the near future.

I wasn't a fan of the original thatrical release although I was pleasantly surprised when I picked up the directors cut in a bargain bin for $3.  That version wasn't bad.  Affleck wasn't the best choice so they should definitely recast.

I think everyone's fond hope would be for the rights to revert back to Marvel but there's no way Fox will ever let that happen with any of their properties.

I like the first DD movie.  Soundtrack was great!  Good news.  Get crackin!
