In this official clip from The Amazing Spider-Man Andrew Garfield "brings it" on the basketball court and smashes the basketball backboard after an epic slam-dunk.
Plot Concept: The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.
The Amazing Spider-Man swings into 3D/2D/IMAX theaters on July 3, 2012.
Meh... still can't understand why they're doing another spiderman. The only reason I don't consider further sequels for iron man & thor bad ideas, is because I would hope they'll contribute(at least to some small degree) to another avengers movie. Spiderman is going to fail at the box office imo.
My biggest issue is that they cast actors who barely can pass for the age they're playing in the first movie when it is clearly part of a franchise. Andrew Garfield turns 29 in 2 months and he's playing a 17 year old. What is going to happen when he's 31-32 years old playing a 19-20 year old and when he's 35-36 playing a 21 year old? At least the Dark Knight Rises had the good sense to progress the story 7 years so Christian Bale is age appropriate.
Looks incredibly lame. First off, why do the writers think having Peter Parker showing off amazing skills while he's trying to keep a secret identity is a good thing? Secondly, if they're going to have him dunk a basketball, that's the best shot they have of him doing it? Not encouraging.
It's Flash Thompson. They keep calling him that in the scene. While I'm also not a fan of the "show off my newfound abilities" scenes, this will probably be better than all 3 previous spidey films. The casting is better, though a little old, the visuals look alot more fun, and Garfield, unlike Maguire, doesn't look like a lumpy, inflexible 80's Spider-man.
Personally I think this scene is great. I'm guessing it's taken out of context obviously becuase we haven't seen the torment that Flash typically gives Peter. It also reminds me of the scene in the fist Superman when Clark kicks the ball out of the field with the difference being that Clark had a boy scout mentality... also he was bullied but always knew he had more power than his tormenters. Peter was bullied and comes into power, so of course he's going to take it out on his bullies. He has to grow into his power and responsibilities.
As far as people not liking that they rebooted the franchise, my take is that as long as it's a good story with good acting, etc. they can reboot all they want. If it's garbage eventually it will tank and go back to Marvel. In addition to that, no one says anything about this with Batman, how many versions of him have we seen through the years?
