While New Line Cinema and Miramax duked it out for first place (Mirmax had claimed the #1 position with DOWN FOR YOU, but their estimates proved to be exaggerated, leaving New Line's NEW FRIDAY in the top spot on its sophomore weekend), there was little excitement for science fiction, fantasy, and horror films, although three resilient holdovers remained in the Top Ten: STUART LITTLE, THE GREEN MILE, and GALAXY QUEST ranked in the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions, respectively.
