According to a well-placed MGM source from Dark Horizons, DEATH WISH may not be the only Charles Bronson classic on the horizon for writer-director Sylvester Stallone. Word is now hitting the wires that a new version of the 1972 hitman tale, THE MECHANIC, may also be in the works. Stallone would be taking Bronson's place as an aging assassin and there's some top young talent said to be as possibles for his apprentice originally played by Jan-Michael Vincent. Some names being thrown about are Ben Foster, Ryan Gosling, Cillian Murphy and Elijah Wood.
Original's Plot: Arthur Bishop (Charles Bronson) is a "mechanic"--a hired killer. And he's the best at what he does, for he exterminates his targets in uniquely violent ways. But the 50ish Bishop is about to retire, so he takes on a young apprentice named Steve McKenna (Jan Michael Vincent). However, the mechanic finds himself caught between a rock and a hard place when he's hired to kill Steve's father.
