First I want to commend Joe for posting in the comments and interacting extensively with the readers. I don't know if others contributors do as well, but you are the only one who really makes his presence known.

I also want to say that I have enjoyed your reviews. I like the conversational style of your writing as well as the titles you use to separate your thoughts. It breaks the article up and makes it more a more enjoyable read.

As for the content of the review, I have to agree on every point you made. This episode was a weak, lazy mooching off of the zombie fetish that is sweeping Hollywood right now. I'll admit to being a bit biased coming in because I am NOT a fan of the zombie genre. Outside of the Resident Evil movies (which I only watch for one reason: Milla), I have never interested in the un-dead.

Pointless. Boring.

And now I can add lazy to my list of reasons to hate the genre. It is all very predictable.

As a show, Smallville is holding true to it's own overall flaws as well. The long term problem that I have had with this show is that every once in a while they will give us an episode or a moment that lets us see what the show would be like if they tried a little harder, then they go back to not trying. You have eps like 'Justice', 'Hex', 'Metallo' thrown in. Moments like Chloe putting on the ear-piece and saying 'Watchtower online!' and then we find ourselves right back in the middle of the same tired old Smallville 90210 mindlessness. You ALWAYS hope that 'THIS is going to be the turning point! HERE is when they are FINALLY going to right the ship and give is a legit Supershow!' But it never happens.

In baseball, momentum is the next day's starting pitcher and for a TV show, momentum is the next week's episode. This series has squandered more positive momentum than any show that I have ever seen.

It's been that way for 8 seasons. Why would any of us still be hoping that will change now?

simple jbbc. we hope because its a show about superman. even this season, it may be its last, it may not be, but we are hoping they get some of it right before they go off the air. and i agree, joes interaction with his reviews is awesome and makes for great conversations. mostly everyone does it i believe, i know jarrod and rob do, but joe is great at it. and yes his reviews kick ass. good job joe

JBBUC, thanks a lot. I really appreciate the complimments. I do like to think of the comment box as an extension to the original article/review, and I've been pretty dedicated to building that kind of community. Of course I run the risk of pissing people off in my reviews, or in my comments back, so I want to extend the open-ended dialogue. Usuallly everyone realizes this is all done in good fun, but sometimes it gets uglier than it needs to be, but that happens when people have strong conflicting opinions. As long as it doesn't get too ugly, I enjoy the spirited conversation, and love to chat with you guys.

I knew taking the Smallville assignment would possibly start some rankling. There are people out there who love the show as it is, and I'm cool with that, but I'm reviewing the show, and if I think the writing has been lazy, or the plots arte contrived, I'm going to speak up about it. I don't mean to piss anyone off, but if it happens, I'm cool with that too.

We're definitely on the same page when it comes to the weaknesses and strengths of this show. It's so frustrating, and that's the perfect word for it frustrating - that the writers have not been able to turn in a more consistent product. They have one of the greatest fictional characters to play with, and I realize that comes with built-in restrictions, but I'll say it again, the animated series kicked ass under the same restrictions in the same era.

Page, same to you. Thanks a lot. Lord knows I don't do this for the gaudy salary, so it's nice to hear a compliment now and then. Now if I could only get my landlord to accept my compliments as actual currency I wouldn't be facing eviction.  ;)

See... I told you ya'll, Smallville would be back to sucking by the next episode. Because suck is what this show does best.

gee....why cant they just go back to one of the episodes where pete chews some gum and get superpowers. the whole emo clark with the stupid trench coat is driving me crazy. i absolutely hate this show now. i have watched it since day one and will watch til its end. i could break a lot of the shows down but that would give me a migraine. i say fire the writers - get some new blood (i know its too late for that, but wishful thinking) and please please kill chloe's character off - she is one annoying actress that cant act. and zod is one little punk ass bitch. what does it take to keep continuity, keep the stories new and strong and lead "us" smallville fans to the mythos promised land.
