Oliver Queen meets his future sidekick as Mia Dearden, the girl who would be Speedy, turns up in season 9 of 'Smallville'. The red arrowette appears in "Crossfire" episode this Friday. The episode also introduces Emilie Ullerup as Catherine "Cat" Grant. The CW has released a webclip from the show. But first, here's the description from The CW:

OLIVER TAKES DC COMICS’ CHARACTER SPEEDY UNDER HIS WING — Oliver (Justin Hartley) tries to help a young street girl, Mia AKA Speedy (guest star Elise Gatien), get out of her dangerous life by offering to train her, but Mia double crosses him.  Lois (Erica Durance) asks Clark (Tom Welling) to help her land a job as an on-air television host, but the two are shocked when the station wants to hire them as a team. Allison Mack, Cassidy Freeman and Callum Blue also star.  Mike Rohl directed the episode written by Holly Henderson and Mike Whitehead.

Tune in October 30th at 8pm for the "Crossfire" episode of 'Smallville'.

I am unaware of a female Speedy. My DC continuity is a mess.

If there is one thing I've noticed about Smallville, continuity isn't something they worry about to much. Not that its a bad thing. I've been watching the show since it started. I like the the new ways they bring in characters and put a new twist on the mythology. Speedy as a girl.... why not?

She came in somewhat recently. She's a character Kevin Smith created when he relaunched the title and brought Ollie back to life.

You know, I'm not too keen on the Green Arrow-ville shows. Maybe because at least they allow him to running around with his code name and actually dresses like his comic book counterpart, unlike Clark Kent/Blur.

Timesobserver, Does that mean you like the Green Arrow episodes or you don't like them?  You say you're not too keen on them, but your next sentence seems to say that you like them better because at least Green Arrow gets to use his codename and outfit.

That's right, Redhairs99. I like the Green Arrow episodes a lot because on some level, the show is more true to him than they are with Clark at this point. And that's a shame that the second fiddle is upstaging the star of the show, in my opinion.

However, I think Green Arrow has too many epsiodes that are focused on him and they've been running nearly back to back. And that's why I've been calling the show lately, "Green Arrow-Ville."
