If what we’re seeing in this episode is in any way an example of the quality of the shows we are going to be treated to this season, it’s a good thing this is the last one. We get real introductions to two new characters in this episode and both actors are terrible. This week, Clark is dealing with the loss or Lois and has decided to leave Smallville, after he helps Lois investigate the dam. Lois finds a ship similar to Clark’s and of course right away, she’s unconscious. Clark and Kara finally meet and it seems she was sent to Earth to find Clark but when her ship crashed underwater, she was kept in suspended animation for 18 years, giving Clark time to grow up and catch up with Kara in age. Apparently, she used to play with Clark when he was a baby back on Krypton. This girl is a horrid actress who walks around with her mouth hanging open so much a group of birds could set up housekeeping in there.
So, Clark and Kara learn who each other are, that’s really about all that happens that’s important. Apparently a dark government agency retrieves Kara’s ship and sets off an alarm that’s equivalent to a nuclear bomb. Lois again finds the ship and after touching it she’s again knocked out. Sometimes, I feel like I’m yelling in a vacuum here because I feel like I’m the only one who’s so sick of seeing characters knocked out on this show so the super heroes can do their thing. Lana and Lois have been knocked out so many times you’d think they’d just start walking around wearing football helmets all the time. After Kara’s ship is destroyed, Clark tells her she can stay on the farm as long as she wants. The only interesting thing about the interaction between Clark and Kara is that she explains that she was sent by her father, Clark’s uncle, to Earth because earth was believed to be the future of the Kryptonian race and to find Clark. This uncle seems nefarious in his actions and maybe Kara is too.
The side stories are even less interesting that the Clark/Kara story. Lois is determined to get a story about the alien ship and the new editor of the Daily Planet wants that article too. He offers her a job at the Planet if she can get the article. This guy, named Grant, is a terrible actor. In the end, Lois spends too much time knocked out to get the article but she gets the job anyway. Now I see that this is a setup for Lois to take her place in the mythology, but I’m disappointed the show is going this route because Chloe is so much more likable than Lois. I think they could have handled Lois being the star reporter of The Daily Planet in a ton of better and more interesting ways. I’d still like to see Lois dead and Chloe writing for the Planet using the name Lois as her pen name. Speaking of dead, it wasn’t a surprise to anyone to see Lana in the season premiere hiding out. I wanted her to be dead to badly for it to actually be true. Her character ran its course two seasons ago and it’s time for her to go, one way or another. Now with a visit from Lex, she knows she can safely return to Smallville, and she will next week.

We'll see Clark fly and wear the tights in the series finale. Sorry if I spoiled it.
