Opening in theaters on November 10 is Robert Zemeckis' THE POLAR EXPRESS, the director's most ambitious project to date. Known for pushing the edge of special effects with his films such as the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy and the digital alterations of history seen in FOREST GUMP, Zemeckis spent two years bringing to life Chris Van Allsburg's magical Christmas tale. Zemeckis used a process dubbed Performance Capture to film live actors against a green screen background, then animate their performance using computers to deliver a unique look that's not been attempted before with movies.

To give you a better sense of the startling look of THE POLAR EXPRESS, we've got 14 photos to show you from the picture showing off the colorful landscape that Zemeckis and his special effects team have made. Tom Hanks provides the voice of five of the film's main characters including the train conductor and Santa Claus himself. Josh Hutcherson, Peter Scolari, Eddie Deezen, Chris Coppola, Andrew Ableson and Michael Jeter (in his last performance) round out the cast.
