A brief tip-of-the-hat to the original John Williams score using those iconic eight bars would'nt detract from the movie at all. Reserve it for one particular scene and then not use it again.

 Um, if it is not referencing the previous films...how can they have General Zod as a villian?  He was created in the Supes films...not the comic book.  

Hold up there young'un, Zod was around from way before Superman's movie, way before. He also originated in comics at least sometime in the 70's if not earlier

 would love to see a movie reboot that does supes justice. We need a villian that is up to the task. And you have to keep the music. That is iconic and is superman IMO. It would be like rebooting star wars without the iconic theme.
