Not much going on this first afternoon after the break but fellow Maniac "Wiseguy" has passed along a viral update on one of many websites. Apparently, a countdown is in effect over at The Dark Knight's viral website for Citizens For Batman. If you're at the lon/lat coordinates that's given at the new countdown page, we're sure you're in for something special. Tomorrow, when it hits zero, we'll update this article.

A new clip has popped up online at GothamCableNews as well. It should also noted that the latest Entertainment Weekly that's hitting shelves this week is covering the highly anticipated sequel from Christopher Nolan. The film stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman.

Plot Summary: "The Dark Knight" reunites director Christopher Nolan with star Christian Bale, who returns to continue Batman's war on crime. With the help of Lieutenant Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart), Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves to be effective, but they soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as the Joker (Heath Ledger), who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces the Dark Knight ever closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante.

The Dark Knight will hit theaters July 18, 2008.

If the counter is to be believed, whatever is going down won't be happening till 10pm on Tuesday. Nothing like a little late night...whatever it's gonna be.

The small print on the page also states that they'll show us what's happening live on the same website. I hope they replay whatever it is because I won't be near a computer tomorrow night at ten. Hats off to these guys, never seen so much put into a viral campaign. I just read the first review that found some faults with TDK. CHUD.com still calls the movie very good or great but short of a masterpiece. If that's the worst the movie is going to rock.

You know it's going down when Wiseguy is on board and passing along Dark Knight info.

Fuck me man, the new EW has the Dark Knight stuff and I ain't home!! Shit keeps getting worse and worse.

I saw a bunch of links to 13 scenes from the Dark Knight over on SHH. Good stuff. Reading an issue of Long Halloween each night from here till the movie opens, get ready for The Bat. Read that review, you are right though, the worse review is saying it's not a masterpiece but still a great film, then that shit is going to ownnnnnn! The reviewer is obviously wrong though since it's obvious the film is a masterpiece.

For those who don't want to look it up, the two locales are: a park in NYC across Lafeyette St from the Jacob Javits Federal Buiding (NY Home of the FBI, I believe) and the other is a parking lot on the Chicago River in Chicago, next to a Potbelly's Sandwich Works on South Wacker Drive. I don't know what they're doing, but I'll be glued to my monitor tomorrow night...

i've already seen what they have planned on this new viral campaign. in fact i saw it on tv tonight... it was a Dominos Pizza commercial tied in with the Dark Knight. the commercial and their pizza make me feel sick, so i guess the "viral" effect worked.

Hopefully the timer means the movie will self destruct giving another direction to make it the right way. A GREASE PAINT FACED JOKER WITH A RECEEDING HAIRLINE? BLASPHAMY I TELL YOU BLASPHAMY! NOLAN YOU B@$T @RD! I'LL GET! I'LL GET YOU!

NotaFan, you really are trying to get Hanso upset aren't you? Just got chime in but Nolan will only do villains that he can psychologically explain. There is nothing wrong with a little grease paint, hell I am a HUGE Batman fan (having a bunch of 1940s stuff and on) and love The Joker the way he is, but come on a vat of chemicals in this day and age? I love the “War Paint†angle so much more. It adds a little reality, makes it a little more scary. Nolan's direction is WAY better than the lack luster previous films (yes Burton's were visually stunning but plot wise/tension wise nothing is in there… even I realized that when I was 10… and the two afterwards, well they just don't count).

Falling into acid and getting scarred makes him too sympathetic. You begin to emphasize and feel sorry for the poor disfigured clown. Now a psychotic anarchist who chooses to walk around looking like a homacidal clown...well, there's just no reference point to grab onto. It's something unknown..unpredictable...scary.

Also tonight, on The Tonight Show is Aaron Eckhart. I was watching last night for Selma Blair who was in a skimpy little thang, and in passing Jay referred to TDK as the best movie of the year... not that he's truly a professional movie critic, but I take it he has already seen it. Anyway, add one more to the list of people who already think highly of the film. Aside: And if you're going to catch The Tonight Show for Aaron, Dara Torres is also on tonight. It's pretty impressive for a 41 year old swimmer to qualify for a 5th Olympic games. As for the viral event... can someone wire me a gift of $800? Let me know soon so I can catch a plane.

I've been trying to avoid watching too much of this viral stuff, or even the trailers--I don't want to spoil the experience, and Hollywood lately seems too fond of giving away all the suprises before the movie even opens. I can't wait to see Dark Knight! =M=
