According to ComingSoon, Sony has revealed, via Sam Raimi, that they will make a Spider-Man 4, 5 and 6.

Raimi revealed the information in LA at a press junket, but also said that he hasn't had the time to decide on his own involvement in the project.

He later added that it would be very hard for him to leave the franchise.

Now is this the cash cow or what? As long as each film is as good as the first 2, I'm all for having more Spidey flicks.

Good timing. I just sent this week's Star Spotlight on Sam Raimi. Look for it on the site tomorrow(Sunday).

You know Raimi won't be directing all of them. Part 4? Possibly. But that'll probably be it, if that.

Not sure if you're talking to me there. I know. I comment on it in the upcoming feature on him. He hasn't done a project outside of Spider-Man since 2000's "The Gift".

Great news. Sam Raimi may or may not direct all the films but it is a guaranteed paycheck as long as he is willing. Personally what I like the most about this is the fact that it opens the door to more of Spider-Man's great cast of villains. And who knows, maybe we'll even see some of his allies show up as well. The webhead needs a little help every now again after all.

Wow. If the cast and crew keeps coming back throughout all six, and the writers can keep up, we may be looking at the most successful franchise in history. That's kind of awe inspiring.

Hopefully he makes another evil dead movie and comes back to make another spidey movie with the lizard being the bad guy.

This story got me thinking.... In a lot of cases as a comic book movie story gets stretched out the sequels lose a little something along the way.... like photo copies of photocopies, the first few are good, but the quality starts to deterierate... Just look at Batman and Superman... two long standing franchises.... both had embarrassing deaths that we all had to endure.... Then I got to thinking, what if Sony was smart enough to realize that what they could have here could be the James Bond of superhero franchises.... Imagine for a second if the effort was put into this project to maintain the integrity of the first two films... and create an ongoing series that kept gving fans what they want..... Believe it or not it could be done... even if some of the key players are missing (Mcguire, Dunst, Raimi) they just need to make sure that if tough choices need to be made about replacements that they are the right choices.

I'm in complete agreement with madmanic999. If the folks at Sony are smart enough to treat the franchise with the respect and dignity of the first two, then this could well be the James Bond of superhero films. The problem with the Bats and Supes franchises was that there really had not been a successful superhero movie series. There was no model to follow. (Let us not forget how Joel "the destroyer of franchises" Schumacher chose to follow the 60's tv series.) Fortunately, all that has changed. Let's hope that Raimi and Sony recognize this as well. By the way, what's up with this Spiderman on Broadway?
